Miami Heat at Toronto Raptors odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Miami Heat at Toronto Raptors odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Heat (40-35) and Toronto Raptors (37-38) meet Tuesday at Scotiabank Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Heat vs. Raptors odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Heat failed to cover the spread as 5.5-point home favorites Saturday in a 129-100 loss vs. the Brooklyn Nets. Miami led by as many as 14 points before getting outscored 64-31 in the 2nd half.

The Raptors pushed as 10-point home favorites Sunday with a 114-104 win vs. the Washington Wizards. F O.G. Anunoby scored 29 points for the Raptors, who have won back-to-back games by double-digits.

Toronto is 2-1 straight up and 3-0 against the spread vs. Miami in this season’s series, while the Over has hit in 2 of the meetings. The Raptors won as 3-point home favorites 112-104 as the Over (215.5) cashed in the last  meeting on Nov. 16.

Heat at Raptors picks and predictions

Prediction

Raptors 117, Heat 108

Moneyline

PASS.

Toronto (-150) is 9-1 in its last 10 home games and should beat Miami, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the moneyline when the Raptors should win by margin. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET RAPTORS -3.5 (-112).

Toronto has been playing up to the level of its competition lately and is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games vs. teams with a winning record. The Raptors have also been dominant at Scotiabank Arena and are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 home games.

Miami is not a good bounce-back team and is just 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games after a loss by more than 10 points. Toronto is a much better team at home and the Heat should struggle to keep it close.

Over/Under

BET OVER 219.5 (-110).

The Over is 6-2 in Miami’s last 8 games and 18-6 in its last 24 after a double-digit loss at home.

The Over has hit in 5 of Toronto’s last 6 games vs. teams with a winning record and is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these teams. While Erik Spoelstra and Nick Nurse are both defensive-minded coaches, this number is just low enough that the Over should hit.

Heat at Raptors picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 109, Raptors 102

Moneyline

LEAN HEAT (-120).

These two teams are so evenly matched and hard to pick a favorite. The Raptors’ home crowd will help them out a lot but with injuries plaguing the team and with a rocky start to the season I expect the Heat to pull this one out.

Against the spread

AVOID.

The spread here is very risky just simply because of the unknowns that come with the injuries in this game. If Trent Jr. and VanVleet do play then I expect this to be a tight matchup that could come down to the final few possessions, and in that scenario I would bet on the Raptors. But, neither of these teams makes many mistakes and both are extremely well-coached and with the injury statuses up in the air it’s best to pass.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 215.5 (-115).

Both of these defenses are ranked top 10 in the NBA in points allowed per game and this will be a tough matchup between two likely playoff teams with defensive stars on both sides. The Heat are rolling right now but have yet to find consistent offense, and if the Raptors’ stars do not play in this one it will be tough for them to generate any offense at all.

Miami Heat at Toronto Raptors odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Miami Heat at Toronto Raptors and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Heat (50-28) visit the Scotiabank Arena Sunday to play the Toronto Raptors (45-32) at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Heat vs. Raptors odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Miami clobbered the Bulls in Chicago Saturday 127-109 for its third consecutive victory, which followed a 4-game losing skid. The Heat are 3-4 against the spread (ATS) in that span.

Toronto has played its way into fifth place in the Eastern Conference, a half-game in front of the Bulls with 5 games remaining. The Raptors are on a 5-game winning streak (5-0 ATS) with the latest being a 102-89 win Friday over the Magic in Orlando.

The Raptors are 2-1 straight up (SU) and ATS versus the Heat, which includes back-to-back wins in their head-to-head series. The total is 2-1 Over/Under (O/U).

Heat at Raptors odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Raptors 111, Heat 102

Money line

PASS with a heavy “lean” toward the Raptors (-170) since they have a major strength-on-weakness edge over the Heat (+135) in ball security.

For instance, the Raptors have the highest defensive turnover rate (TOV%) and the Heat has the fourth-worst offensive TOV%, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Furthermore, Toronto scores the second-most points off of turnovers per game and Miami is 20th in points off of turnovers allowed per game.

That said, the Raptors (-170) are a little out of my price range for this spot so I’ll lay the points with Toronto instead.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET the RAPTORS -3.5 (-112) for 1 unit because of their aforementioned edge in ball security over the Heat +3.5 (-108) and this is a Pros vs. Joe’s scenario in the betting market, with the presumed sharp money on Toronto.

According to Pregame.com, a slight majority of the cash is on the Raptors but nearly three-fourths of the bets placed are on the Heat. Since wiseguys wager more money than the public, typically the cash column of the betting splits is considered the sharp side of the market.

Also, this is a better spot for Toronto than Miami. The Raptors have a slightly higher ATS winning percentage versus teams with a winning record while the Heat are 5-7-1 ATS as 3-to-4.5-point underdogs and struggle in the second of back-to-backs.

Miami is 1-6 ATS in the last 7 games played with no rest and has a minus-3.6 adjusted net rating (ranked 20th) and minus-2.4 ATS margin (ranked 24th) in the second of a back-to-back this season, per CTG.

TAKE the RAPTORS -3.5 (-112) unless Toronto’s ML goes south of -150 at which point I’d bet the Raptors SU.

Over/Under

PASS because my numbers align with the market’s projected score so there’s no value for me in this total.

For what it’s worth, Toronto is 38-39 O/U and 11-9 O/U when playing with a rest advantage while Miami is 44-32-1 O/U and 9-4 O/U on zero rest days so I “lean” Over 212.5 (-115).

But, a vast majority of the action is on the Over and this total hasn’t budged off the opener so this might be a trap line for Over backers.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01fb7dafw2b08817yr player_id=none image=https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The Miami Heat (32-19) stop by Scotiabank Arena Tuesday to play the Toronto Raptors (25-23) at 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Heat vs. Raptors odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Both these teams played Monday and met this past weekend. A F Jimmy Butler-less Heat got smacked 122-92 by the Boston Celtics and the Raptors won at the Atlanta Hawks 106-100 as 2.5-point road favorites Monday.

Toronto upset Miami on the road Saturday 124-120 in triple overtime despite that it was without leading scorer PG Fred VanVleet. These teams are now split 1-1 straight-up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) this regular season through two meetings in Miami.

The Heat are 5-3 SU and 4-4 ATS while the Raptors are 4-4 SU and 5-3 ATS over the last two weeks. Miami is 10th in adjusted net rating over that span, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG), and Toronto is 9th.

Heat at Raptors odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Raptors 113, Miami 107

Money line

BET the RAPTORS (-150) for 1 unit because the Heat could be without three starters and Toronto just beat Miami without VanVleet.

In fact, Butler was sensational Saturday versus the Raptors (37-14-10 triple-double) and the Heat still lost.

Not only is Butler an All-NBA-caliber forward but Miami could also be without elite wing defender Tucker. These absences are concerning since Toronto is stacked at wing with Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby and Scottie Barnes.

The Raptors also perform better on limited rest: Toronto is 5-3 SU (plus-3.1 margin of victory) and Miami is 2-6 SU (minus-2.3 margin of victory) when playing with no rest days.

Finally, Toronto has a massive strength-on-weakness edge over Miami in ball security, which surfaced in the Heat-Raptors game Saturday. Miami is 27th in offensive turnover rate (TOV%), Toronto forces the highest rate of turnovers and the Raptors killed the Heat in this area Saturday. Toronto committed 7 fewer turnovers than Miami (23-16) and scored 7 more points off of turnovers.

BET the RAPTORS (-150) but if their money line goes north of -155 then I’d just lay the points with Toronto instead.

Against the spread

PASS with a heavy “lean” towards the Raptors -2.5 (-120) since they are an NBA-best 6-2 ATS (plus-7.3 ATS margin) on the second of a back-to-back and are far healthier than the Heat at the moment.

I’m confident enough in Toronto that I’m willing to spend extra on the Raptors (-150) money line, but if that increases any further, I’d be comfortable laying up to 4 points with Toronto.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 209.5 (-112) for a quarter-unit, if at all, because the Toronto sides are sharper plays and both teams play at a bottom-three pace.

However, Miami is 7-1 O/U when playing on the second of a back-to-back with a plus-9.9 total margin and 9-4 O/U as a road underdog. Toronto is 11-7 O/U as a home favorite and 7-1 O/U in the last eight home games.

Heat at Raptors: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Raptors 113, Heat 104

Money line (ML)

The RAPTORS (-140) were -190 money line favorites for Wednesday’s game. The price has dropped considerably following the Heat’s decisive upset victory and it makes the hosts a much more appealing play in Game 2.

Toronto shot just 39.8% from the floor and 32.7% from 3-point range in the loss. Miami shot 48.8% from field-goal range and made 18 of 40 3-point attempts. The Heat had only slight advantages in rebounding and assists, while the Raptors took better control of the ball and had more trips to the free-throw line.

The potential absence of Siakam looms large in this one and will need to be monitored throughout the day, but the Heat have the more extensive injury report. Miami was led by PG Kendrick Nunn‘s game-high 28 points Wednesday with five others scoring in double-figures. Look for some shooting regression for Miami.

Against the spread (ATS)

There’s better value on the RAPTORS -2.5 (-110) to win by at least 3 points. They were laying 4 points Wednesday and the loss has dropped the line by a point-and-a-half.

If Toronto can be plus-6 in the turnover column once again and just shoot closer to its season average of 36.9% from 3-point range, it should get a different result.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 221.5 (-110). Less-efficient shooting from the Heat and more connection from the Raptors should offset in total scoring. Wednesday’s game fell 9 points shy of a 222.0 line, so we have some room for error.

The defending Eastern Conference champion Heat snapped a three-game losing skid with a 113-107 win over the Detroit Pistons Monday. They lost the first game of the two-game set against the Pistons by a 120-100 count Saturday.

The Raptors are on their first three-game winning streak of the season. They beat the Charlotte Hornets twice (111-108 and 116-113) and most recently topped the Dallas Mavericks 116-93 Monday.

Heat at Raptors: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Raptors 113, Heat 105

Money line (ML)

The RAPTORS (-190) are coming off their most impressive win of the season, albeit against a tired and undermanned Mavericks squad. Toronto held PF Kristaps Porzingis and PG Luka Doncic to a combined 38 points, while Raptors PG Kyle Lowry had a team-high 23 points with 9 rebounds and 7 assists. C Chris Boucher continued his hot run with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

The Heat got 28 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists from C Bam Adebayo against the Pistons last time out. As a team, it soared past its season averages in field-goal and 3-point shooting while going 43-for-75 from the floor against the awful Detroit defense.

The absence of Butler sets up a big night for Raptors PF Pascal Siakam at both ends of the floor. He’s averaging 18.9 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game, and he’ll have plenty of energy at the offensive end of the court while not needing to worry about Butler on defense.

Against the spread (ATS)

Get better value on the RAPTORS -4.5 (-110) by backing them to win by at least 5 points, citing the injury/health concerns for Miami as the biggest discrepancy in Wednesday’s matchup. The Raps are just 4-9 against the spread on the season, but the Heat are just 4-7-1.

Toronto covered as a 2.5-point favorite in a 107-103 win when the two last met Aug. 3, 2020, in the Orlando bubble.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Raptors’ 93 points allowed to the undermanned Mavericks Monday matcher their second-lowest point total allowed this season. They’re facing an opponent in a similar situation Wednesday, so the defense will again have fewer bodies to worry about.

Take the UNDER 221.5 (-110).
