First look: Jacksonville Jaguars at Miami Dolphins odds and lines

Looking at Sunday’s Jacksonville Jaguars at Miami Dolphins Week 1 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins meet Sunday in Week 1 NFL action. Kickoff from Hard Rock Stadium is set for 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we look at Jaguars vs. Dolphins odds from BetMGM Sportsbook before making our expert NFL picks and predictions later in the week.

After starting the 2023 season with an 8-3 record, the Jags lost 5 of their last 6 games and missed the playoffs. Even with a subpar finish to the season, the Jaguars re-signed QB Trevor Lawrence to a 5-year, $275 million contract. Lawrence is now among the highest paid QBs and fans expect him to live up to this money.

Miami ended its 2023 campaign with a 26-7 loss in the Wild Card to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. In the offseason the Dolphins brought in WR Odell Beckham Jr. and extended coach Mike McDaniel through the 2028 season.

Washington Commanders at Miami Dolphins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Washington Commanders at Miami Dolphins odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Dolphins welcome the Washington Commanders to Hard Rock Stadium for Week 2 of the preseason Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET (NFL Network). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Dolphins vs. Commanders odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Commanders fans finally got a look at their prized No. 2 overall pick QB Jayden Daniels in Week 1 of the preseason, and the rookie did not disappoint. He connected with WR Dyami Brown on a perfectly placed 42-yard pass which set up his 3-yard touchdown run. Washington fell 20-17, but the fans saw exactly what they wanted to see from the future of their franchise. Coach Dan Quinn confirmed that Daniels will start against the Dolphins.

Miami did not play many offensive starters in its preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons, but prevailed 20-13. The bulk of the quarterback snaps were split between Skylar Thompson and Mike White, who combined to go 12 of 33 for just over 100 yards. When asked if he’d play against Washington Saturday, QB Tua Tagovailoa replied, “I hope so.” The second preseason game is typically the dress rehearsal for the regular season.

Commanders at Dolphins picks and predictions

Prediction

Commanders 17, Dolphins 14

Moneyline

BET COMMANDERS (+185).

The questions about whether or not Tagovailoa is playing gives me pause to back the favored Dolphins. That also calls into question whether Miami will play its starters at all. The Commanders will give us a good look at their rookie Daniels, who should continue to shine in the preseason.

If Tua does not go, the combination of Thompson and White disappointed in Atlanta. They looked out of sorts and neither guy could sustain a drive. I’m going to bet the team with less question marks heading into the game.

Against the spread

Betting the spread? Preseason games are too volatile to get reasonable trends. Neither team will show all its schemes on offense or defense. Starters will only play a portion of the game, if at all.

PASS.

Over/Under

All the trends heading into this game are screaming to bet the Under. The total has gone Under in 5 of Miami’s last 6 games, also in 5 of the last 6 meetings between these teams. Oh, and the Under has hit in 4 of Miami’s last 5 games at home.

Both teams went Under the total in their 1st preseason games as well.

BET UNDER 38 (-110).

First look: Miami Dolphins at Philadelphia Eagles odds and lines

Looking at Sunday’s Miami Dolphins at Philadelphia Eagles NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Dolphins (5-1) and the Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) hook up for the Week 7 Sunday night game at 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC). Below, we look at Dolphins vs. Eagles odds from FanDuel Sportsbook. Also see: SportsbookWire’s NFL picks and predictions.

While the Dolphins come into Philadelphia off a 42-21 home win as 14-point favorites against the Carolina Panthers, the Eagles just lost their 1st game of the season, falling at the New York Jets 20-14 . The loss by the Eagles — as 6.5-point favorites — was not only their 1st loss, it was the 1st time in franchise history that they lost to the Jets. Philly had been 12-0 in the all-time series before Sunday’s defeat.

Miami leads the NFL in offense at 498.7 yards per game behind a balanced attack. The Dolphins are 1st in rushing (181.8 YPG) and 1st in passing (316.8 YPG).

This will bode well for Miami as it will need to rely on the pass game against a Philly defense that ranks 2nd in the NFL against the run, allowing 65.8 YPG.

The pass defense for the Eagles has been less than good, ranking 20th at 232.2 YPG allowed. Plus, injuries to CBs Avonte Maddox and Darius Slay will hinder Eagles’ ability to cover the likes of Dolphins WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

A victory — in this battle of the top teams in each conference — would be a large step in the right direction for either club.

Dolphins vs. Eagles head-to-head

Miami leads the all-time series 9-6. Outside the normal 4-year NFL rotation, these teams haven’t played much.

The Dolphins took the last 2 meetings — both as underdogs. Miami won 37-31 as a 10.5-point home dog in 2019, and eked out a 20-19 road victory as 5.5-point dogs in 2015.

Prior to those 2 Miami victories, Philly had won 4 of the 5 between 1996-2001.

While both teams have been able to put up points this season — they’re a combined 7-5 to the Over — the Under is 3-1 in the last 4 head-to-head tilts.

The Dolphins picked up a 36-34 road victory over the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday, winning outright as 3-point underdogs as the Over (50.5) cashed. Miami trailed in the final 2 minutes of the game before QB Tua Tagovailoa connected with WR Tyreek Hill on a 4-yard touchdown pass to secure the victory.

Tagovailoa finished the game with 466 yards, 3 TDs and 1 interception. Hill paced the receiving corps with 215 yards and 2 scores on 11 catches.

The Patriots came up short in a 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in their opener Sunday. New England failed to cover as a 3.5-point underdog as the Over (43.5) connected.  The Eagles jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the 1st quarter, capitalizing on a pick-6 and a fumble recovery that turned into a touchdown, before the Pats battled back. New England had 2 opportunities to take the lead late in the 4th quarter, but turned the ball over on downs both times.

QB Mac Jones was 35-of-54 passing for 316 yards, 3 TDs and 1 interception in his first game with new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. WR Kendrick Bourne and RB Rhamondre Stevenson both finished with a team-high 64 receiving yards, while Bourne found the endzone twice.

Dolphins vs. Patriots head-to-head

Miami leads the all-time series vs. New England 60-55, although the Patriots have taken 2 of 3 playoff meetings.

The Fins had a 4-game win streak snapped in Week 17 last year when the Pats picked up a 23-21 home victory. However, Miami covered as a 3-point underdog in that meeting and has taken 5 straight ATS in the series. The Under has paid out in 6 of the last 10 meetings.

New England hasn’t won in Miami since 2019 — when Tom Brady was still leading the way.

First look: Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers odds and lines

Looking at Sunday’s Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers Week 1 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Dolphins begin the 2023 season on Sunday with a Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we look at Dolphins vs. Chargers odds from BetMGM Sportsbook. Also see: SportsbookWire’s NFL picks and predictions.

The Dolphins are counting on QB Tua Tagovailoa to remain healthy this season after he missed 5 games (including the playoffs) in 2022 due to multiple concussions. Miami finished with a 9-8 record last season and lost in the Wild Card round of the playoffs to the Buffalo Bills.

The Chargers are coming off a 10-7 season and expectations are high with QB Justin Herbert now having Kellen Moore as his offensive coordinator. Los Angeles lost in the Wild Card round to the Jacksonville Jaguars last year despite jumping out to a 27-0 lead in the contest.
