Atlanta has had some success against deGrom this year, and they definitely have more incentive to take this game. He’ll likely strike out a ton of hitters, but Atlanta is a championship-caliber team, and they find ways to win. He’s simply trying to come out of his last start healthy and ready for the playoffs. I like the BRAVES (+105).

Run line/Against the spread

The Braves RL probably has the best chance to cash, but it’s too expensive for me. Instead, let’s back Fried, who has been great this month and against the Mets, to keep them in it.

Take the BRAVES +0.5 FIRST 5 INNINGS (-160) to at least keep it tied after 5.

Over/Under

The Mets are 8-2 O/U over the last 10; whereas Atlanta is 4-6. The wind is blowing straight out to center field at 6 mph. These two pitchers faced each other Aug. 16, and it went Under, actually by the same 3-2 score predicted here.

However, I’d prefer to pass on the total and take BRAVES OVER 2.5 TOTAL RUNS (-125) in a safer setting.

LEAN BRAVES (-190) only because we are getting the worst of the number since Atlanta’s ML opened at -145 but has been steamed up by sharp action, according to Pregame.com. That said, the Braves have a 3-phase edge over the Mets in starting and relief pitching and hitting.

Strider is the odds-on favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year at +200 and has way nastier stuff than Peterson who has a 5.84 ERA in his last 5 starts vs. the Braves since the start of 2020.

Atlanta’s lineup is also more productive vs. left-handed pitching than N.Y.’s is against righties. The Braves have a higher wRC+ (118-113), wOBA (.342-.322), ISO (.200-.149), BB/K rate (0.40-0.37) and hard-hit rate (34.4-27.9%), per FanGraphs.

However, I would entertain parlaying Atlanta’s ML with another similarly priced team for a better payout and I’m confident enough in the Braves to bet their RL.

Run line/Against the spread

BET 0.75 units on the BRAVES -1.5 (+110) based on the aforementioned logic and 4 of the 5 Mets-Braves meetings this season have been decided by at least 3 runs. Furthermore, Atlanta’s RL has been dragged down by sharp action from a +135 opener, per Pregame.com.

Over/Under

PASS.

Neither starter is a “top-of-the-rotation” guy, both lineups rake Tuesday’s opposing pitcher’s handedness and N.Y. is 10-6-3 O/U as a road underdog.

However, the Under 8.5 (-110) appears to be the sharper play since the Over feels like a trap line.

Fried is also one of the best pitchers in MLB that no one talks about. Fried has a 75.8% win rate with a 3.17 ERA over his 1st 4 full seasons in “The Show” and was Atlanta’s starter in its World Series-clinching Game 6 victory last year.

Atlanta’s bullpen is better than N.Y.’s in WAR (4.8-2.0), ERA (3.54-3.16), FIP (3.75-3.16), home runs allowed per 9 (1.13-0.82) and swing-and-miss rates, per FanGraphs.

TAKE the METS (+125) for 1 unit because they have a significant edge in the pitching matchup and the presumed “sharp” side of the market is backing New York.

First of all, New York’s bullpen is head and shoulders better than Atlanta’s. The Mets relievers are fifth in xFIP, sixth in SIERA and eighth in both K-BB% and left-on-base percentage. Whereas the Braves relievers are bottom-10 in the majors for all those categories.

Also, both Peterson’s basic numbers and pitching peripherals vs. active Braves hitters are slightly more impressive than Fried’s against Mets batters, but Peterson has a 1.46 FIP against Atlanta compared to Fried’s 3.24 FIP vs. New York.

Furthermore, Peterson’s pitching performance against Atlanta earlier this season was actually very good once you look under the hood.

For instance, Peterson had his best hard-hit rate vs. the Braves of any start in 2021, the second-highest K/BB rate and a 2.29 FIP on a 5.79 ERA. Peterson’s issue in that start was his unlucky .385 BAbip, which figures to regress to the mean in this meeting.

Lastly, according to Pregame.com, nearly 60% of the money has been wagered on the Mets, but 70% of the bets placed are on the Braves. Typically it’s more profitable in sports betting to follow the money – especially when it’s flowing opposite of the public.

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Mets +1.5 (-160) because New York’s run line is a little too pricy for me to bet outright, but I’d entertain incorporating it into a parlay with another similarly priced line for an even-money payout.

In addition, the Mets have a 70.0% cover rate as a road underdog (14-6 ATS) and the Braves have a 27.8% cover rate as a home favorite (10-26 ATS).

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 8.5 (+100) for a half unit as a “contrarian play” against a market that’s betting the Over at a 76% clip (according to Pregame.com).

Moreover, these starters have solid numbers vs. their respective opponents, and most of the situational trends point to a lower-scoring affair.
