Watch: Dolphins’ Chop Robinson throws opening pitch at Marlins game

The Dolphins rookies had a night at the ballpark on Friday.

The Miami Dolphins’ rookies reported for training camp earlier this week and they’ll be joined soon by the team’s veterans. But it isn’t all hard work and no play for the first-year players.

On Friday night, the Dolphins’ rookie class headed to LoanDepot Park to watch the Miami Marlins host the New York Mets and first-round pick Chop Robinson got a chance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Dolphins rookies must’ve brought some good luck to the field, as the last place Marlins managed to get a 6-4 win against the visiting Mets.

And although his throw to the plate was definitely well above the strike zone, the Dolphins didn’t draft Robinson for his ability to throw.

Miami may need its first-round pick to contribute early in his rookie year after both Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips suffered season-ending injuries in 2023. Both Chubb and Phillips are set to begin training camp on the PUP list, putting their availability for Week 1 in doubt.

Notre Dame football stars take in Mets game with Kate Upton

There are worse ways to spend a Friday night.

If you’ve been paying attention to any national sports media this week you’re aware that Notre Dame football has taken over the city of New York.  Appearances by Notre Dame head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and a handful of players on ESPN, NFL Network, and other outlets has been pretty regular the last few days.

To cap off the week Marcus Freeman threw out the first pitch at Friday night’s New York Mets game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Pitching for the Mets was future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander who is married to supermodel and former Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover-girl Kate Upton.

As it turns out, the likes of [autotag]Benjamin Morrison[/autotag], [autotag]Joe Alt[/autotag], [autotag]Blake Fisher[/autotag], [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag], and [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] were able to meet Upton during the game.  Check it out below.

Well look at that, Notre Dame steals another fan originally from the state of Michigan.

The luck of the Irish wasn’t in the building for Verlander or the Mets on Friday night though as the Dodgers beat them 6-0.

Also worth noting is that Blake Fisher is listed at 6-6, 310-pounds yet looks like a fullback compared to Alt.

Notre Dame football: Marcus Freeman’s baseball problem

The good news is that Marcus Freeman is throwing out another first pitch at an MLB park. The bad news though…

Will Notre Dame football disappoint in 2023 or will they be a College Football Playoff contender into November?  If the answer is the former then Fighting Irish fans may just be able to blame America’s favorite pastime.

Why?

Marcus Freeman is throwing out the first pitch at the New York Mets game on Friday night.  If you’re a baseball fan you’re well aware the Mets spent seemingly a billion dollars on payroll this off-season and went just 42-48 before the All-Star break.  They’re 18.5 games out of first-place in the National League East and are the NL’s biggest disappointment.

Don’t just blame the Mets, though.

This will be the second first pitch Freeman has thrown at a Major League Baseball stadium this year.  Earlier this summer he did so before the Chicago White Sox hosted the Los Angeles Angels.

The White Sox are essentially the Mets in terms of disappointment.  Sure, they didn’t spend nearly as much on payroll but they hyped their rebuilding plan to be playing at an extremely high level right now.  Instead the team seen by many as the American League Central’s favorite in spring training is a laughable 38-54.

So Freeman will throw out to first pitches this year, something few if any other college football coaches can say.  He’ll also do so for arguably the biggest disappointment in both leagues.

Hey, free baseball is better than none at all.  And if Notre Dame flops this fall then at least we can blame it on the Mets and White Sox.

Bobbly Bonilla day, explained: Here’s why MLB fans celebrate the former All-Star every July 1

Bobby Bonilla. Baseball’s master of finesse.

Bobby Bonilla is the finesse king, folks. This man hasn’t played baseball in over two decades at this point. Yet he is still being paid by the New York Mets.

That’s how you do it, folks. That’s why today is Bobby Bonilla day.

This is the day that everyone pauses for a second and laughs at Mets for agreeing to something this silly. The team still somehow owes Bonilla millions of dollars in deferred money more than a decade after they’d started paying him again.

If you’re confused about why this is a thing, don’t worry. We’re breaking it all down right here for you.

Here’s why we all celebrate the king of finesse, Bobby Bonilla.

Jacob deGrom took out a full-page ad to give Mets fans the sweet goodbye they were looking for

Jacob deGrom left an extremely kind message for the Mets and their fans

Things have been quiet on the Jacob deGrom front since we found out he was signing with the Rangers a couple of weeks ago.

deGrom had been with the Mets organization for 12 years. He’s played in the big leagues for 8 of those years. The two sides have been through thick and thin together. Through that time, deGrom became one of the best pitchers to ever pick up a baseball.

So, naturally, it felt a bit weird that there was no reflection from deGrom on his time with the Mets with the fans. Up until now, that is.

deGrom took out a full-page ad in the New York Post to thank Mets fans for their time and appreciation. It was actually pretty nice.

“My family and I are forever grateful to the Mets for an incredible last 12 years and, most importantly, for believing in me. For giving me the opporutnity to play the game I love at the highest level for all these years…To the New York Mets fans — your passion, devotion and unwavering support for me, from the very beginning, has been incredible. It is humbling and apprecaited beyond words.”

Fans had been looking for something like this from deGrom for weeks now. They’re happy now that they’ve gotten it.
