Roughnecks at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Roughnecks 27, Showboats 20

Moneyline

The last game of the regular season is between the 2 worst teams. Memphis’ only win game against Houston on the road in Week 1. But the Showboats have the league’s worst defense, allowing 30.9 points per game (PPG), more than 6 points more than the next-worst team. They have given up 32 or more in 6 of their last 7 games. That is combined with the 2nd-worst scoring offense, averaging 18.8 PPG.

The Roughnecks have the worst scoring offense at 16.2 PPG. They went through a 4-game stretch in which they did not score more than 12 points in a game, but have since improved. They have scored 28 and 22 in their last 2 games.

With that offensive bounce-back and Memphis’ porous defense, expect Houston to win.

Betting the the Roughnecks at -135 isn’t a bad play at all, but because there is only a 1.5-point spread, you get a little better value on that bet.

PASS.

Against the spread

The only time the Roughnecks have covered the spread this season is in their lone victory. This is only the 2nd time they are favored (the 1st time being in Week 1 against Memphis in their 18-12 season-opening loss).

The Showboats have covered the spread once in their last 7 losses. They had a 1-point loss, but their last 7 losses have been by at least 6 points.

BET ROUGHNECKS -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Over has hit in 6 of the Showboats’ last 7 games. It has hit in the Roughnecks last 2.

The Showboats have allowed 24 or more in their last 7 and 32 or more in 6 of their last 7 games. Houston has allowed 22 or more points in 4 of their last 5

BET OVER 45.5 (-110).

Defenders at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Showboats 21, Defenders 17

Moneyline

The Defenders struggle offensively. Their 142 points are the 2nd-fewest in the league. They have only surpassed 20 points twice this season and averaged 11 points per game over the 3 weeks prior to scoring 21 in their loss to St. Louis.

After allowing 32 or more points in 5 straight games, the Showboats limited Michigan to 24. They themselves have averaged 20 points per game over their last 4 contests.

The Defenders are 1-3 on the road and the Showboats are winless at home.

This is upset week.

BET SHOWBOATS (+200).

Against the spread

The Showboats covered the spread in their loss last week after 5 straight weeks losing to the spread. They are 3-5 ATS this season while the Defenders are 2-3-2 ATS.

But since we like the Showboats to win the game outright at +200, there is no need to bet the spread.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Both teams average under 19 points per game.

The Defenders’ last 3 games and 4 of their last 5 have not reached 46 total points.

And while the Showboats allowed over 30 points in 5 consecutive weeks, DC’s offense just isn’t capable of that.

BET UNDER 45.5 (-ufl110).

The Showboats are reeling. After a season-opening win, they have lost 6 straight games. They are coming off a 47-23 blowout road loss to Arlington last week, failing to cover the 6.5-point spread as underdogs. The Over (45) cashed in.

Michigan has won 3 games in a row. They are coming off a 22-9 road win over the D.C. Defenders when they were 1.5-point underdogs. The Under (43) cashed in.

Showboats at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 34, Showboats 23

Moneyline

The Showboats have been bad defensively. They have allowed 32 points in their last 5 games including 47 last week.

The Panthers have scored at least 28 in 3 of their wins.

This doesn’t feel like it is going to be very close, but there is no need to bet Michigan at -450.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Panthers have won by double digits in 3 of their 5 victories.

The last 5 losses for the Showboats have been by at least 15 points. Now, giving up so many points in recent weeks, are playing a team that has scored over 30 twice, this will get ugly.

BET PANTHERS -8.5 (-115).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Showboats’ last 4 games have all surpassed 47 total points.

In 3 of the Panthers’ last 4 wins, they allowed 18 or more points.

With the Panthers likely to score at least in the 30s, The Showboats just need to approach 20 points, which they have surpassed the last 2 weeks.

BET OVER 47.5 (-110).

Renegades 31, Showboats 21

Moneyline

How is a winless team -250 against a team with 1 win?

Well, Arlington has scored 25 or more points in 5 of its 6 games, while the Showboats have allowed 32 or more in 4 straight.

Memphis hasn’t scored more than 21 this season.

This is where Arlington gets a win, but don’t bet it here at -250.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Showboats have failed to cover the spread in their last 4 losses.

The Renegades covered the spread for the 1st time all season last week. They have not had trouble scoring points. They just haven’t stopped teams.

Meanwhile, Memphis has scored the fewest points in the league (17.8 per game).

Birmingham Stallions at Memphis Showboats odds, picks and predictions

Beat the sportsbook: Analyzing Saturday’s Birmingham Stallions at Memphis Showboats odds and lines, with expert UFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Birmingham Stallions (5-0) travel to meet the Memphis Showboats (1-4) Saturday at the Simmons Bank Liberty Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ABC). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Stallions vs. Showboats odds and make our expert UFL picks and predictions.

The defending USFL champion Stallions picked up a 32-9 win in Houston last week to easily cover an 8.5-point spread as the Under (41.5) hung on at most shops. Birmingham improved to 4-1 against the spread (ATS) while cashing the Under in 4 of 5 games to date.

The Showboats suffered a 4th straight loss last week at home against the Michigan Panthers, falling 35-18. Memphis has failed to cover the past 3 outings, while the Over has hit in each game. The Showboats defense has been abysmal in the past 3 outings, allowing 32 or more points, and 33.4 points per game (PPG).

These teams met in Week 3 in Birmingham, with the Stallions dominating the Showboats 33-14 to cover a 7-point number as the Over (40.5) cashed.

The 2 sides also met during the USFL season twice last season, too. Birmingham won 42-2 in Week 2 at home to easily cover a 7-point spread as the Under (44.5) just connected, while the Stallions won in Memphis in Week 10 by a 27-20 count, also covering as a 4.5-point favorite as the Over (44) hit.

Stallions at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Stallions 33, Showboats 18

Moneyline

The Stallions (-800) remain the top teams in the UFL, and we saw what they can do against the Showboats (+550) once already this season. Birmingham paddled Memphis 33-14 at home back in Week 3, and there is no reason to believe things will be any different. The Showboats just cannot stop anybody on defense.

However, you can’t risk 8 times your potential return on the road team.

PASS.

Against the spread

The STALLIONS -12.5 (-110) are laying the biggest number of the season in UFL play. In fact, Birmingham is just the 2nd double-digit favorite in the 2024 campaign.

There is little reason to like the Showboats +12.5 (-110), as the offense has scored 19 or fewer points in all 5 games this season while allowing at least 32 points in each of the past 3 outings, including Week 3 in Birmingham.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 42.5 (-110) is a strong play, and Birmingham figures to do most of the heavy lifting to get this one across the finish line.

The Stallions have racked up 20 or more points in all 5 games while going for 26.3 points per game (PPG) in 3 outings on the road.

The concern with betting the Over is Birmingham’s stout defense, which has allowed just 13.6 PPG, including 14 to Memphis in Week 3. The concern is also the struggling offense of the Showboats, which hasn’t been able to crack the 20-point mark all season.

Still, the Stallions should do enough to get the job mostly done, even if the Showboats lay another egg.

Michigan Panthers at Memphis Showboats odds, picks and predictions

Beat the sportsbook: Analyzing Sunday’s Michigan Panthers at Memphis Showboats odds and lines, with expert UFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Michigan Panthers (2-2) travel to meet the Memphis Showboats (1-3) Sunday at the Simmons Bank Liberty Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Panthers vs. Showboats odds and make our expert UFL picks and predictions.

The Panthers lost 19-9 as a 1.5-point underdog last week against the San Antonio Brahmas as the Under (42.5) easily connected. The total has gone low in 3 of the past 4 games, while Michigan has split 2-2 against the spread (ATS).

The Showboats won the season opener in Houston, but Memphis has dropped 3 straight games, and it has failed to cover the past 2 outings. The offense has struggled, going for 19 or fewer points, while averaging 17.0 points per game (PPG). The defense was fine in the 1st 2 games, but it has allowed 32.5 PPG in the past 2 outings as the Over has hit in each contest.

These teams met at Ford Field in Week 4 last season, with Memphis picking up a 29-10 win as a 6.5-point underdog as the Under (45) cashed.

Panthers at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Showboats 18, Panthers 16

Moneyline

The SHOWBOATS (-120) are worth a look at home in what is expected to be a tight game. In fact, playing the moneyline is much better than laying the points, as this could potentially come down to a point or 2. Both of these teams struggle offensively, while both are pretty decent defensively.

Against the spread

The Showboats -1.5 (-105) are a little cheaper to lay the small amount of points. But it really could come down to a single point. Both of these teams struggle on offense, and we’re unlikely to see a big margin of victory.

AVOID, and stick with the moneyline here.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 40.5 (-110) might be the best play on the board.

The Under has cashed in 3 of 4 games for the Panthers, with Michigan’s defense allowing 20 or fewer points in each of its 4 games. The offense has scored 18 or fewer points in 3 of those outings, too.

For the Showboats, they’ve scored 19 or fewer points in all 4 outings, and the only concern with playing the Under is the Memphis defense. The Boats have allowed 65 total points in the past 2 games, but that was against Birmingham and St. Louis, 2 of the top offenses in the UFL. Michigan’s offense certainly won’t be confused with those 2 juggernauts.

Memphis Showboats at St. Louis Battlehawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Memphis Showboats at St. Louis Battlehawks odds and lines, with expert UFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Memphis Showboats (1-2) take on the St. Louis Battlehawks (2-1) Saturday at The Dome at America’s Center at 12:30 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Showboats vs. Battlehawks odds and make our expert UFL football picks and predictions.

The Showboats were smoked by the Birmingham Stallions 33-14 in Week 3, failing to cover as 7-point dogs. QBs Case Cookus and Troy Williams combined to go 26-for-41 for 191 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. They rushed 12 times for just 20 yards as a team. WR Jonathan Adams is 5th in the league with 174 receiving yards.

The Battlehawks covered as 2-point favorites with a 31-24 road victory over the previously undefeated San Antonio Brahmas last week. QB AJ McCarron went 19-for-27 for 152 yards, 1 TD and no INTs. He also added a 10-yard rushing score. RB Jacob Saylors broke out for 7 rushes for 62 yards and a score. The Battlehawks have struggled on the ground, and if Saylors can continue that momentum, he will make this offense even more dangerous.

Showboats at Battlehawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Battlehawks 28, Showboats 17

Moneyline

“The Battledome,” as it’s affectionately called in St. Louis, is the most hostile atmosphere in the league. STL broke a modern spring football record with 40,317 in the stands for its home opener, and another jam-packed crowd is expected.

There’s just no play here with St. Louis such heavy favorites and the Showboats having yet to show much on offense.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Battlehawks are 2-1 ATS after they dropped their season opener on the road to Michigan. The Showboats have scored 18, 19 and 14 in their 3 games.

It’s a little risky laying this many points, but BATTLEHAWKS -7 (-110) makes sense against this inferior opponent.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Showboats are 1-2 O/U with the Over cashing in the last game as they allowed 33 points. The Battlehawks have been a little anemic on offense early in games, but they’re still 2-1 O/U. This is a massive total when you consider Memphis is averaging 17 points per game.

LEAN UNDER 45.5 (-110).

San Antonio Brahmas at Memphis Showboats odds, picks and predictions

Beat the sportsbook: Analyzing Saturday’s San Antonio Brahmas at Memphis Showboats odds and lines, with expert UFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

Week 2 of the UFL season kicks off Saturday with the San Antonio Brahmas (1-0) on the road against the Memphis Showboats (1-0). Kickoff is at noon ET at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (ESPN/ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Brahmas vs. Showboats odds and make our expert football picks and predictions.

The Brahmas kicked off their season with a 27-12 upset win over the D.C. Defenders at home Sunday. They entered the game as 6-point underdogs, and the Under (43.5) cashed in.

The Showboats were 1.5-point road underdogs but beat the Houston Roughnecks 18-12 Sunday behind 204 passing yards and 1 passing TD from QB Case Cookus; the Under (39.5) also cashed in.

Brahmas at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Showboats 18, Brahmas 15

Moneyline

The Brahmas were tied for the most points in Week 1. Both the Brahmas and SHOWBOATS (+110) allowed only 12 points to their opponents.

The coaching matchup is good. San Antonio coach Wade Phillips is a defensive legend, while Memphis coach John DeFilippo is great on offense.

But Cookus led the Philadelphia Stars to the USFL championship game in 2022, only to break his leg and see his team lose.

Brahmas QB Chase Garbers is not yet that experienced.

It will be a low-scoring game as both teams looked solid defensively a week ago, but I’m giving the edge to the home team with the more experienced QB.

BET SHOWBOATS (+110).

Against the spread

Since we’re already looking to win on the moneyline with plus odds, there’s no need to bet the spread on the underdogs. All 4 teams who covered the spread in Week 1 also won their games outright, which included a pair of underdogs.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

No game in Week 1 hit the Over, which is to be expected in the 1st week of a new league with no preseason to work out any kinks.

But both teams limited their opponents to 12 points in Week 1, and while the Brahmas scored 27 last week, I expect both defenses to be solid.

BET UNDER 39.5 (-110).

Memphis Showboats at Houston Roughnecks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Memphis Showboats at Houston Roughnecks odds and lines, with expert UFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

Week 1 of the first season of the new UFL wraps up on Sunday as the Memphis Showboats face the Houston Roughnecks. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. ET at Rice Stadium (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Showboats vs. Roughnecks odds and make our expert football picks and predictions.

The Showboats come from the USFL and finished 5-5 last season. But coach Todd Haley was replaced by John DeFilippo, who coached the USFL New Orleans Breakers last season. Their starting QB is Case Cookus, who led the Philadelphia Stars to the USFL championship game two seasons ago.

The Roughnecks went 7-3 in the USFL last season but lost to Arlington in the division championship. QB Jarrett Guarantano, who started 4 college seasons at Tennessee and spent a preseason with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022, is their starter this season.

  • RB Trey Williams (calf) probable

  • DE Chris Odom (calf, hamstring) out
  • RB Mark Thompson (knee) out

Showboats at Roughnecks picks and predictions

Prediction

Showboats 21, Roughnecks 17

Moneyline

Houston is missing several key players to injury, including Thompson, who was the No. 2 rusher in the USFL last season.

DeFelippo was once on the verge of getting an NFL head-coaching job and has the more experienced quarterback.

With little else to go on in a league with no preseason, that is where the edge goes this week.

BET SHOWBOATS (+100).

Against the spread

Expecting the underdog Showboats to be victorious at even-money odds, that is the better bet than taking them +1.5 at -110.

Both of Saturday’s games were decided by 2 or more points.

In the Saturday game in which the underdog covered the spread, it was an outright 18-16 win by Michigan (+6.5) over St. Louis.

PASS.

Over/Under

Both of Saturday’s games stayed Under the projected total. With no preseason to get an offensive rhythm, especially where there are new coaches and quarterbacks, don’t expect a lot of points.

BET UNDER 39.5 (-110).

Birmingham Stallions at Memphis Showboats odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Birmingham Stallions at Memphis Showboats odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Birmingham Stallions (7-2) meet the Memphis Showboats (5-4) Saturday in a key Week 10 USFL South Division game at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Stallions vs. Showboats odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Stallions were the first USFL team to clinch a playoff spot last weekend, but Birmingham is still playing to secure the South Division title. It can do so with a victory, or a loss and a setback by the New Orleans Breakers against the Houston Gamblers Sunday, also in Memphis.

Birmingham has rattled off 4 consecutive victories, while going 3-1 against the spread (ATS) during the span. During the win streak, the Stallions have scored 24 or more points, averaging 29.0 PPG. On the flip side, B-Ham has allowed just 18.0 PPG during the stretch.

The Showboats had won 5 in a row, while covering 6 straight outings before Week 9. However, the Boats were humbled 31-3 by the aforementioned Breakers, taking the possibility of a division title off the table. However, Memphis is still alive for a postseason spot, albeit now a very, very unlikely situation due to tiebreakers, point differential, etc.

These teams met back in Week 2, and the Stallions roughed up the Showboats 42-2 in the most lopsided game of the season at Protective Stadium in Alabama.

Stallions at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Stallions 29, Showboats 18

Moneyline

Birmingham (-190) is a little too expensive at this price, costing you 2 times your potential return. My personal limit for a singular moneyline wager is -180.

It’s probably a good bet, as the Stallions will saddle up and give it their all with a division title on the line. But the Boats are also desperate to keep their faint playoff hopes alive, and it’s a certainty they’ll have a better showing than Week 2.

PASS.

Against the spread

BIRMINGHAM -4.5 (-110) has the best record in the USFL, and with 260 points this is easily the best scoring offense, with the Breakers a distant 2nd with 220.

Memphis +4.5 (-110) is trying to keep its flickering postseason hopes alive, but after a 28-point beatdown at the hands of the Breakers, it was also desperate in a key South Division game last week and Memphis failed to show up.

Look for the Stallions to roll to a victory, even playing on the road on the banks of the Mississippi River in Memphis.

Over/Under

OVER 44 (-110) looks like a good bet based upon Birmingham’s high-octane offense. The Over is 5-2 in the past 7 games for the Stallions, too, and B-Ham has posted 20 or points in all 9 outings, with 27 or more points in 6 of the contests.

However, the Under cashed in the Week 2 meeting, and the Under has been the rule for the Showboats. The Under has cashed in 6 straight games for Memphis, which is the longest Under run of the entire season, too.

Still, I think Birmingham has tremendous offense, and it dropped 42 on Memphis earlier in the season. While the Boats defense is much better than that first showing, the offense will also do a lot more than Week 2. Memphis has scored 22 or more points in 6 of 9 games this season. A total in the high 40’s or 50’s is expected.
