Ravens waive RB Melvin Gordon III ahead of divisional round matchup vs. Texans

The Baltimore Ravens are waiving running back Melvin Gordon III ahead of the teams divisional round matchup agains tthe Texanns

Melvin Gordon’s fumble against the Steelers in the Week 18 season finale will be his final carry with the team this season after being waived on Wednesday.

Baltimore moved on from Gordon III after signing Dalvin Cook before the regular season finale against Pittsburgh.

Cook will have a chance to go from signing with the Ravens practice squad two weeks ago to becoming an impact running back in the postseason.

Baltimore’s current backs — Gus Edwards, Melvin Gordon III, and Justice Hill — have not created big plays, combining to average 4 yards per carry over the past seven games.

The Ravens signed Cook to the practice squad on Jan. 4 after he went unclaimed on waivers.

The New York Jets cut Cook after 15 games in which he had career lows in carries (67), rushing yards (214) and touchdowns (0).

Melvin Gordon III Signed to 53-Man Roster; Jake Funk to Practice Squad

The Ravens announced three roster moves on Tuesday, signing Melvin Gordon III to the active roster from the practice squad.

Baltimore also placed rookie running back Keaton Mitchell onto injured reserve after he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the win over the Jaguars.

In recent weeks, the undrafted rookie had established himself as Baltimore’s most explosive running back.

He finished the game with nine carries for 73 yards (8.1 per carry), including a 24-yard gain.

With J.K. Dobbins out for the season, Keaton Mitchell on IR, and Justice Hill ruled out, the Ravens are elevating running back Melvin Gordon to the active roster for Week 3.

With Baltimore so banged up at the position, Gordon should see 5-10 carries behind veteran running back Gus Edwards.

Gordon has played eight NFL seasons for the Chargers and Broncos.

He has amassed 1,567 carries for 6,462 yards, 309 catches for 2,467 yards, and scored 69 touchdowns.

After the team released Melvin Gordon III, Keaton Mitchell appears to have made the Ravens roster as an undrafted rookie.

Gordon was supposed to bolster the Ravens running backs corps but was overtaken by Mitchell at the start of training camp.

With the move, Baltimore will likely roll with J.K. Dobbin, Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, and Mitchell.

Gordon could still return to the practice squad.

Prince’s NFL Player Props: Kenny Pickett, Saquon Barkley and more Week 11 picks

The best NFL Week 11 player prop bets.

It’s been a long time (two weeks to be exact). I shouldn’t have left you, left you…without a few picks to step to.

After going 4-2 for a second straight week in Week 9, I took Week 10 off. But we’re back and ready to keep this record trending in the right direction after a rough start to the season.

The theme for Week 11 is “go low”, because I’m hammering unders on four of my six picks. That includes me going back to the Mac Jones passing yards under that’s been so generous to me — hopefully you’ve been tailing. Let’s get into this pick-six.

Week 9: 4-2

2022 record: 21-32

Melvin Gordon staring down Russell Wilson became an instant NFL meme

This became an instant meme.

The Denver Broncos are a complete mess right now.

Despite the fact that they’ve won two games, they should have won a third on Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts, especially with KJ Hamler WIDE OPEN.

How much of it is on Russell Wilson? Well, he’s thrown over just one touchdown once and thrown over 300 yards just once this season. He definitely shoulders some of the blame, although there’s lots of season left to play.

There was a shot of Wilson on the sidelines that NFL fans screengrabbed — running back Melvin Gordon appeared to be staring him down. Whether that’s the magic of freezing the video on that exact moment or not is up for debate.

But it still made for an amazing meme:

The Wisconsin legend reunites with his former Badger teammate

More than a decade after the two suited up in Madison, Wisconsin, Melvin Gordon III and Russell Wilson are reunited in the NFL. With Wilson landing with the Denver Broncos this offseason, and Gordon deciding to resign in the Mile High City, the Broncos offense will have a distinct Badgers flair.

When Gordon solidified his deal on Wednesday, the Broncos posted a video of the former Badger running back talking about next season and reuniting with a Wisconsin quarterback.

The confidence was there for one of Wisconsin’s best backs of all time, as he made it clear that this was a team with Super Bowl expectations. For Gordon and the Broncos, “the sky’s the limit.”

Russell Wilson and Melvin Gordon III last played together in 2011, when Gordon was just a freshman at Wisconsin. Now, the duo reunites on the biggest stage.

With Gordon re-signing in Denver, the former Badgers will be tasked with leading the Broncos offense in one of football’s toughest divisions.

When the news of Gordon’s one-year, five million-dollar deal broke, the new Broncos quarterback was quick to show his appreciation for a former Badger.

Gordon hinted at being able to reunite with Wilson back in March, and now that hint has become a reality.

Wilson is ready to play alongside the Broncos running back room, which is now led by a Badger legend:

Melvin Gordon III and Russell Wilson last teamed up as Wisconsin Badgers in 2011. Now, they will lead the Denver Broncos offense in the NFL.

Gordon made that official when he resigned with the Broncos on a one-year deal. The 29-year-old led the Broncos in rushing yards a year ago, finishing with 918 yards on the ground. Over seven NFL seasons, the former Badger has rushed for 6,144 yards and 53 touchdowns.

The one-year deal is reportedly worth up to $5 million.

There were questions as to whether or not the Broncos would target a young running back in the upcoming NFL draft, but it looks as though Gordon will have the chance to be Denver’s number one option headed into the season.

The Baltimore Ravens have been able to add multiple impact playmakers during 2022 free agency, including safety Marcus Williams, offensive tackle Morgan Moses and defensive tackle Michael Pierce. However, they’ve been linked to multiple others throughout the process, including a standout on the offensive side of the ball.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Baltimore had been discussing a deal with running back Melvin Gordon III. However, on Tuesday night Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Gordon is returning to the Denver Broncos on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million.

With Ravens running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards suffering season-ending torn ACLs during the 2021 offseason, Baltimore is expected to add another running back as insurance incase either isn’t ready to start 2022. However, the 2022 draft has a plethora of quality running back options in the middle rounds, so it would have been hard to see the Ravens giving Gordon the contract that he ended up receiving from Denver.
