SNL cold open featured Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris playing Family Feud

Andy Samberg, Jim Gaffigan and Dana Carvey return for to play alongside Rudolph.

With the 2024 presidential election right around the corner, Saturday Night Live continued to lean into the topical skits. This week, presidential nominees Kamala Harris (Maya Rudolph) and Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) participated in a game of Family Feud, complete with host Steve Harvey (Kenan Thompson).

The two teams competed to answer the question “Name something that you keep in your glove compartment.” Vice President Harris won control of the board, taking the question back to her team made up of her husband, Doug Emhoff (Andy Samberg), running mate Tim Walz (Jim Gaffigan) and President Joe Biden (Dana Carvey).

M&M’s replace ‘spokescandies’ with Maya Rudolph in Super Bowl 57 ad

And M&M’s Super Bowl 57 ad will feature…

The M&M’s chocolate you know and love is returning to the Big Game, but in a way that you won’t even recognize at all.

We’re still optimistic that their new spokesperson has more than enough prowess to make the old ones proud.

After the candy brand sat out of the national spotlight during last year’s Super Bowl, Mars announced in December that the versatile treat will make their return.

M&M’s will be back on the small screen and will hope to have another promising campaign during the Ad Meter’s 35th year on the scene.

And their new advert will be exactly that: Something we have not seen before. Instead of featuring their “spokescandies” mascots, M&M’s turns things over to comedic actress Maya Rudolph.

In a release on social media, the company stated there will be an “indefinite pause” for the usual candy characters.

Hopefully they did not–melt–in the spotlight.

Rudolph takes over her role as M&M’s “Chief of Fun” for the first time during the second quarter of the upcoming Super Bowl. It will be a 30-second spot.

Even with the huge changes, M&M’s could be onto something.

Bare minimum, give them an “Ad Meter’s chance” to crush it.

Despite sitting out Super Bowl 56, M&M’s crushed it the year prior. In 2021, M&M’s most-recent spot, their commercial “Come Together” was ranked No. 4 on USA Today’s Ad Meter.

Rudolph has some big… and many… shoes to fill, but the could be a worthwhile roll of the dice.
