Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey goes down with knee injury

The Steelers see another offensive starter go down with injury.

We don’t know the extent of the injury suffered by Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey but it didn’t look good. Pouncey went down late in the third quarter in obvious pain. After the training staff checked on him, Pouncey tried to go off on his own power. But after just a few steps you see something give in his knee and has to be helped to the blue medical tent.

Now it will be B.J. Finney to come in and replace Pouncey. Finney is a talented and experienced reserve. The Steelers currently trail the New York Jets 13-10 late in the third quarter. We will keep you updated on the status of Pouncey when information becomes available.

1 current, 1 former Steeler make USA TODAY All-Decade team

USA TODAY put out their All-Decade team.

Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY put out his All-Decade team this week and it really highlights the sheer volume of talent in the league over the last 10 years. With the number of elite players in the league over the last decade, narrowing it down to just a single team couldn’t have been easy.

The Pittsburgh Steelers landed two players on the team…sort of.

First up the Steelers get center Maurkice Pouncey. Pittsburgh has a tradition for having some of the best centers in league history. And like Mike Webster and Dermontti Dawson, Pouncey is always considered among the elite centers in the league. Pouncey was the team’s first-round pick in 2010 and despite missing almost all of 2013, has come back and remains among the elite among offensive linemen in the NFL.

Then the Steelers landed wide receiver Antonio Brown. Obviously, he doesn’t play for the Steelers anymore but his nine seasons with the Steelers were incredible. Six straight seasons of at least 100 receptions is rarified air and in spite of the fact the relationship between the Steelers and Brown melted down so badly, Brown’s impact on the field during the decade cannot be denied.

WATCH: Steelers’ Maurkice Pouncey: Fight with Myles Garret ‘was worth it’

Maurkice Pouncey is back from his two-game suspension following the Browns-Steelers melee from Week 11 when Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett ripped off the helmet of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and then hit him with it.

Maurkice Pouncey is back from his two-game suspension following the Browns-Steelers melee from Week 11 when Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett ripped off the helmet of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and then hit him with it.

Pouncey was originally suspended three games for punching Garrett in the helmet and then kicking him, but the NFL reduced his suspension to two games after an appeal.

Even then, the Steelers’ center doesn’t regret it. Pouncey said to PennLive.com’s Jacob Klinger: “The NFL had to make a statement, and rightfully so. At the end of the day, the fight didn’t look good, but the fight was worth it.”

Between two missed game checks and a $35,096 fine, Pouncey lost out on approximately $150,000.

“Everyone had to pay their fines, everyone had to do their due diligence. But the money was worth it, trust me.”

Steelers C Maurkice Pounce on his scrum with Myles Garrett: ‘The fight was worth it’

Maurkice Pouncey went to war for his quarterback and he’d do it again.

On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Steelers center re-joined his teammates for the first time since he was suspended for two games for his part in the fight between the Steelers and Cleveland Browns back in Week 11. But when Pouncey spoke to the media on Wednesday, he made it very clear he had no regrets for defending his quarterback.

“The NFL had to make a statement, and rightfully so,” Pouncey said. “At the end of the day, the fight didn’t look good, but the fight was worth it.”

Pouncey went after Browns defensive end Myles Garrett after Garrett his Steelers QB Mason Rudolph over the head with his own helmet. Pouncey took Garrett to the ground and for his actions got himself a three-game suspension later reduced to two.

But for Pouncey, what’s done is done and he seemed to be fine with how it all worked out.

“No regrets,” Pouncey said. “I’ve moved on now, man. Everyone had to pay their fines. Everyone had to do their due diligence. The money was worth it, trust me.”

For his part, Garrett got an indefinite suspension to extend no less than the remainder of this season including the playoffs.

Steelers place Maurkice Pouncey on Reserve/Suspended list

The Steelers had to make a roster move to account for Maurkice Pouncey’s suspension.

Due to his two-game suspension, the Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to place starting center Maurkice Pouncey on the Reserve-Suspended by Commissioner list on Friday. Pouncey is serving a two-game suspension for his role in the brawl at the end of last Thursday’s game with the Cleveland Browns. This means Pouncey will miss this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Pouncey appealed his original three-game suspension and got it reduced by one game. This will still assure Pouncey is not on the field when the Steelers play the Browns on December 1.

The Steelers replaced Pouncey on the 53-man roster with practice squad center Patrick Morris. B.J. Finney will start at center for the Steelers, which leaves Pittsburgh thin along the interior defensive line.

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett received an indefinite suspension for his part in the fight and Cleveland defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was suspended for one game after he threw a cheap shot at Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.

Steelers OL Maurkice Pouncey gets suspension reduced, will play vs. Cardinals

He originally was going to miss the game between the two teams on December 8.

After hearing appeals of the suspensions of multiple players involved with the fight near the end of the game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Brown last Thursday. The suspensions of Browns DE Myles Garrett and DT Larry Ogunjobi were upheld and the suspension of Steelers offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey was reduced, the league announced.

Pouncey was originally suspended three games and would have missed the game against the Arizona Cardinals on December 8.

With the appeal, his final missed game will be the rematch between the Steelers and Browns, and he will suit up against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals play the Steelers and Browns on consecutive Sundays. They were going to avoid both Pouncey and Garrett. Instead, they will face a full Steelers squad and then the Browns without their top pass rusher.

Myles Garrett suspension upheld; Maurkice Pouncey ban reduced

The NFL is sticking by Myles Garrett’s indefinite ban but cut Maurkice Pouncey a break.

The NFL has ruled on the suspensions imposed on the Browns’ Myles Garrett and the Steelers’ Maurkice Pouncey after the ugly incident at the end of the game last Thursday.

There is no surprise Garrett’s indefinite ban has been upheld. This, even with the Browns’ defensive star claiming Pittsburgh QB Mason Rudolph instigated the incident with a racial slur, something the Steeler denies.

Both players appealed their suspensions this week. The two-game ban means Pouncey will miss the teams’ rematch Dec. 1 in Pittsburgh.

Previously, a one-game ban for Cleveland DL Larry Ogunjobi had been upheld.
