Here’s how much Mattress Mack reportedly lost on the Astros missing the World Series

Another HUGE loss for Mattress Mack.

Mattress Mack — Jim McIngvale, as you may know — has had some big wins and some huge losses betting on various Houston teams over the years.

This time? Per Vegas Insider reporter Patrick Everson, McIngvale had “at least” $7.9 million on the Astros to win it all again this year. The payout would have been nearly $51 million.

Alas. Didn’t happen this year. Imagine being able to put $8 million down and be able to stomach the loss. What a life.

But you know what comes next. He’ll be back to bet a huge amount of money on another event like the Super Bowl and we’ll be watching to see if he wins or loses:

MLB denies Mattress Mack was blocked from throwing out first pitch at Mattress Firm’s request

The mattress wars have taken an unexpected turn.

Mattress Mack’s claims of being denied a first pitch as part of a mattress war appear to be overblown, according to the MLB.

Over the weekend, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale alluded that he wasn’t allowed to throw out the first pitch at a recent Houston Astros playoff game because his business competition Mattress Firm was a national sponsor of the MLB.

The league has denied that Mack wasn’t allowed to throw out the first pitch because of any sort of mattress favoritism.

Instead, it deals with a policy the MLB says has to do with national sponsors being the only persons allowed to partake in the pregame ceremony.

“Promotional opportunities, like sponsor first pitches, during the Postseason are reserved for national partners,” MLB Chief Revenue Officer Noah Garden said in a statement. “As a result, MLB independently requested a change to the first pitch. Mattress Firm was not involved in that decision and did not ask for the communication between MLB and the Club.”

Well, there you have it. The MLB has shot down any claims of mattress bias, leaving Mattress Mack left with just claims on the contrary.

We’ll see if McIngvale decides to break out a metaphorical pillow to combat this statement and defend his honor in the ongoing mattress wars.

Mattress Mack tossed a combined $4.05 million on Houston to win March Madness and the payout is astronomical

Mattress Mack is ready to fill up some more wheelbarrows with cash

It wouldn’t be a major sporting event without Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale dropping massive amounts of money on a bet and offering up just as ridiculous a sale at his regional furniture stores.

Sure enough, the retail magnate is back for March Madness and he’s actually been wagering on his national title favorite for a quite a while now. The Houstonian is backing the No. 1 seed Houston Cougars (no surprise there) and he won’t even have to travel should the program reach the championship game.

The 2023 Final Four is being played at NRG Stadium in Houston.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3003″ ]

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3006″ ]

But about those wagers. Early in the season Mack put down $1.05 million on Houston (+850) at FanDuel Sportsbook, added another $1 million on Houston (+900) at DraftKings and dropped $1 million on Houston (+800) at Caesars Sports. As the tournament drew closer, Mack dropped another $500,000 each on Houston at BetMGM (+1000) and Barstool Sportsbook (+900).

That’s a $4.05 million wager for an astounding $39.475 million payout including his stake. It wouldn’t be surprising if Mack adds a little more onto his bet if Houston advances to the Final Four, either.

After skipping out on a Super Bowl bet this year, he’s likely got plenty of cash remaining from the $75 million payout he earned on the Houston Astros’ 2022 World Series title. Those winnings don’t go right into his pocket, however. He has to pay out customers who took advantage of his gambit.

This time around anyone who spends more than $5,000 on purchases in his stores gets their money back if Houston wins the NCAA tournament. With the Final Four in Space City, surely some visiting fans will consider heading over to his stores to make some big purchases if Houston reaches the title game.

Of course, that’s the whole point of this thing, isn’t it? Big sales, big bets, big profits. Anyway you look at it, Mack tends to come out a winner.

How much money did Mattress Mack bet on the 2023 Super Bowl?

If it seems quiet on the Mattress Mack front, there’s a reason for that.

Things have been unusually quiet regarding the bets of Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, which usually center around the largest events in sports.

He set a U.S. sports betting record with his $75 million winnings from the World Series. Then, he put a couple million on Houston to win the college basketball national championship, and he lost a few million between the college football national championship and the Cowboys’ playoff loss to the 49ers.

But as the Super Bowl approached, the only news surrounding Mack was his surprising opposition to legalizing sports betting in Texas. And now we know why. ESPN’s David Purdham reported that Mack surprisingly didn’t bet on Chiefs-Eagles at all, and he isn’t alone.

According to Purdham, Super Bowl betting has been quieter than normal and only two seven-figure bets have been reported. Even still, the American Gaming Association expects a record number of bettors for this year’s game thanks to more states having legal betting.

Mattress Mack (of all people) opposes the Texas sports betting legalization bill supported by Jerry Jones

Texas has an unlikely opponent in the form of the state’s most notorious bettor.

The push to legalize mobile sports betting in Texas took another step Monday with the debut of new legislation carried by republican state Sen. Lois Kolkhorst.

Kolkhorst’s relationship with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is expected to give it a chance at succeeding after a previous sports betting bill failed to gain traction in 2021 despite the support of some Texas heavy hitters, including Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Houston Astros owner Jim Crane.

The two team owners again voiced their support to legalize mobile betting in a statement Monday from the Texas Sports Betting Alliance, each boasting the safety of a regulated market.

However, not everyone is back on board.

An unlikely new opponent of legalizing sports betting in Texas is perhaps the state’s most notorious sports bettor, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale.

In 2021, McIngvale went so far as to write an opinion piece for the Houston Chronicle about why it was time to legalize betting in Texas. But he’s since had a change of heart, telling the Chronicle the travel required for him to place bets puts a limit on his impulses to do so. He also said he’s concerned the revenue estimates are overblown.

“My change of heart is that I know myself and I’ve seen the light as far as
impulsiveness on me to sports gambling,” said McIngvale, who won the largest payout in U.S. sports betting history last year when the Astros won the World Series. “Because I’ve got to drive to Louisiana, it limits those impulses by a factor of 1,000. So I’m not in favor of sports gambling in Texas.”

Who saw that coming?

Mattress Mack trolled Dak Prescott with some ‘advice’ after losing his $2 million bet on the Cowboys

Mattress Mack knows how Prescott can get better results.

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is an incredible business man. He’s not a very good sports bettor.

The biggest reason his bets fall flat is because the majority are placed on Texas-based teams. Sometimes it works out, like when the Houston Astros won last year’s World Series, netting him the largest payout in U.S. sports betting history. Most of the time, though, the bets lose, like when TCU got blown out in the national championship, or Sunday, when the Dallas Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers.

Mack had $2 million riding on the game, and he didn’t take the loss lying down. He had a message for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on how to get better results.

“Hey, Dak, Mattress Mack here. I just lost $2 million, but I’ve got some advice for you: get rid of that Sleep Number mattress and get a Tempur-Pedic. You’ll get much better results,” Mack said in an obvious shot at Prescott’s play and his Sleep Number partnership.

If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about mattresses, it’s Mack (though I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a Tempur-Pedic partner). But I’m not sure pot should be lecturing kettle when his own track record is shaky.

One thing we can all agree on is Prescott needed to play better. At least Mack is still rocking the quarterback’s jersey proudly.

Mattress Mack has lost a whopping $9.2 million betting against Georgia in last two national title games

Well, you can’t win them all.

Mattress Mack might want to avoid betting against the Georgia Bulldogs from here on out.

Mega sports better Jim McIngvale, better known as “Mattress Mack,” learned the hard way on Monday night what happens when you’re on the wrong end of a major bet.

McIngvale plopped down a major $3 million bet on TCU to swarm Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship. However, his gut feeling couldn’t have been more wrong. The Bulldogs steamrolled the Horned Frogs 65-7 and singlehandedly hit the over for the game.

Poor Mattress Mack has now lost $9.2 million betting against the Bulldogs in the national title game. He bet $6.2 million on Alabama to win it all last year.

However, Mattress Mack took the loss in stride and tried to spread a little sports betting wisdom as he processes a bad night with the sportsbooks.

Mattress Mack will still have plenty of money to throw around on future bets. He won the largest payout in sports betting history last fall when the Houston Astros won the World Series, after all.

He’s also got $2.5 million right now on the Houston men’s basketball team to win it all in April.

So, y’now, you win some, you lose some. Mattress Mack, like Georgia, will certainly be back.

Mattress Mack bet $1.5 million on underdog TCU to upset Georgia in the CFP title game

Mattress Mack will always bet on Texas.

No name in Texas is more synonymous with sports betting than Jim McIngvale, aka Mattress Mack. So with another Texas sports team playing in a major championship, it should be no surprise that the Houston-area mattress mogul is back with another huge bet.

According to Action Network’s Darren Rovell, McIngvale placed a $1.5 million bet at DraftKings for TCU to beat Georgia in Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship. Getting the Horned Frogs’ moneyline at +370 odds, Mattress Mack would win $5.55 million if they can pull of the upset.

Of course, those are longshot odds. Georgia has long been favored to win the national title and is currently favored by 12.5 points.

Mack often uses promotional mattress sales to fund his bets, but he should have plenty of dough to blow after winning a U.S. sports betting record $75 million on the Houston Astros’ World Series title. He also has a pending $2.5 million bet on University of Houston to win the men’s college basketball national championship.

Mattress Mack’s huge wins had a sizable impact on sportsbook revenue in Louisiana

Good for Mattress Mack, but not so good for sportsbooks.

Sports betting continues to grow rapidly. It’s becoming legal in more states, being endorsed by sports leagues and advertised just about everywhere we look.

As a result, more bettors are logging into apps or heading to sportsbooks to place bets of all sizes — some big and some small.

One of the bigger bettors around, Mattress Mack, is doing a number on sportsbooks — specifically, to the state of Louisiana. His record-breaking $75 million payout on the Houston Astros winning the most recent World Series has much to do with it.

In a post by Conor Porter of SBC Americas, he details the exact amount of damage caused by the World Series winnings.

“Reporting November’s financials, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board declared a handle of $233.7m from the Bayou State’s eight sports betting operators, up on the previous month’s $219m.

However, due to significant winnings from World Series bets in baseball, including Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale’s wagers with several sportsbooks, the state reported a revenue loss for the month of $27.6m.”

As Bet For The Win‘s very own Prince Grimes wrote, perhaps American bookmakers will continue to adopt the European model that limits successful bettors in how much money they can wager on a bet.

Until then, sportsbook are will need to find a way to recover from these hard hits.

They’ll likely be just fine.

Mattress Mack’s latest bet is $2.5 to win $22 million on Houston claiming college basketball’s national championship

Mattress Mack is at it again.

Update: December 12, 2022 2:52 pm ET

Mack wasn’t done hammering Houston to win the Final Four. Or should we say, of course Mack wasn’t done betting on the Cougars.

Already in for $1.5 million this March, the furniture salesman made another huge wager on Houston—nearly doubling his stake in the process. Mack laid down another $1 million on Houston at +800, becoming the first person the place a bet at the new Caesar’s Sportsbook inside the Horseshoe Lake Charles Casino of Louisiana.

Mack is now up to $2.5 million to win $22 million.

Houston dropped to No. 5 in the AP Top 25 ranking on Monday but are still among the favorites to cut down the nets in April.

Famed better Mattress Mack is at it again, this time in the college basketball world.

After taking home the largest payout in U.S. sports betting history when the Houston Astros won the World Series, businessman Jim McIngvale has put down another major bet on another Houston-area team.

On Tuesday, Mattress Mack tossed $500,000 on the Houston Cougars’ 10-1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament next spring. He’d take home $5 million if the Cougars were to win the championship.

Later on Wednesday, Mack placed another $1 million on Houston (+900) at DraftKings to bring his stake up for $1.5 million for a total payout of $14 million.

McIngvale certainly has the money to throw around after his recent windfall, and he’ll be an even richer person if Houston can win the big bracket next year.

It’s not a bad bet to make, with the Cougars currently ranked third in the nation by AP.

Well, if this all goes well, Mattress Mack might need more wheelbarrows to take home more winnings.

He’ll undoubtedly be watching March Madness closely next year to see if he’s due another big payout.
