NFL bettors are furious after Devin Singletary’s yardage was mysteriously shorted, dooming their parlays

Something is off about this.

An incredibly specific prop bet is being called into question by bettors on social media after Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary appeared to eclipse 25 yards late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Bengals, yet mysteriously finished with an official total of 24.

Singletary’s alternate prop total of 25+ rushing yards was added to a few divisional playoff parlays, and the bettors were left perplexed and frustrated after losing that leg when there’s video evidence to suggest they should have won.

First, let’s start with the play in question. It was 3rd & 7, according to the CBS graphic, and Singletary was up to 19 yards at this point.

Now, here’s where things get confusing.

Singletary appeared to get the first down, which would have meant he rushed for seven yards and was up to 26 for the game. However, the NFL’s official play-by-play for the game says it was actually 3rd & 6 (not 3rd & 7) — and Singletary didn’t get the first down. The play-by-play has him ruled down at the 40, setting up a 4th & 1. That would mean the run was only for five yards, which would leave him at 24 for the game.

Because sportsbooks get their official data from the NFL, that’s the number they used to determine Singletary’s prop. But that was unsatisfactory for bettors who saw with their own two eyes what had transpired.

Now, here’s the thing. If Singletary had actually been ruled down at the 40 in real game-time, it’d be easy to write this off as a graphic error. The lines on the field are hard to see through the snow. It’s plausible that he came a yard short on 4th and 6.

However, a replay of the game shows Buffalo was actually awarded a first down. The sticks were moved and everything. The 4th down that appears in the official play-by-play never occurred. The very next play was first down.

A first down would mean Singletary got the full six yards the NFL’s own play-by-play says was needed for a first, which should have given him exactly 25 yards for the game.

I’ve personally never seen the league go back and adjust the downs in a game after the fact, so it’s hard to say why that would have been done here. Bettors aren’t happy about it.

Mattress Mack trolled Dak Prescott with some ‘advice’ after losing his $2 million bet on the Cowboys

Mattress Mack knows how Prescott can get better results.

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is an incredible business man. He’s not a very good sports bettor.

The biggest reason his bets fall flat is because the majority are placed on Texas-based teams. Sometimes it works out, like when the Houston Astros won last year’s World Series, netting him the largest payout in U.S. sports betting history. Most of the time, though, the bets lose, like when TCU got blown out in the national championship, or Sunday, when the Dallas Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers.

Mack had $2 million riding on the game, and he didn’t take the loss lying down. He had a message for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on how to get better results.

“Hey, Dak, Mattress Mack here. I just lost $2 million, but I’ve got some advice for you: get rid of that Sleep Number mattress and get a Tempur-Pedic. You’ll get much better results,” Mack said in an obvious shot at Prescott’s play and his Sleep Number partnership.

If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about mattresses, it’s Mack (though I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a Tempur-Pedic partner). But I’m not sure pot should be lecturing kettle when his own track record is shaky.

One thing we can all agree on is Prescott needed to play better. At least Mack is still rocking the quarterback’s jersey proudly.

NFL bettor won ‘life changing’ money by incredibly nailing the first scorer in every divisional playoff game

He lost it when Dalton Schultz scored for the final leg of the parlay.

Correctly predicting the first touchdown scorer of an NFL game is really hard. Doing it for every game played in a single weekend is almost impossible.

Parlaying those incredibly long odds will get you even longer odds that can turn a few bucks into a huge payday. For a bettor named Cameron Craig on Twitter, that meant turning a $5 free bet into $72,795.

After nailing the first players to score in each of the first three games of the divisional playoffs — Travis Kelce, Dallas Goedert and Ja’Marr Chase — Craig just needed Dalton Schultz to score first in Sunday night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. The clip below shows the incredible moment it actually happened.

To illustrate how improbable this was, San Francisco had the first crack at scoring, which would’ve killed this bet on its last leg. Dak Prescott threw a first-quarter interception from his own 21, but Dallas’ defense held strong with a short field and forced the Niners to kick a field goal.

Schultz scored on the very next Cowboys possession, reaching the end zone before other threats like CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, or even Prescott himself, could ruin the parlay.

The first touchdown scorers weren’t the only right calls Craig made. He also declined taking an early payout of $1,393 before the Schultz touchdown.

Craig might have considered the payout if it was a little more, but $1,400 wasn’t enough to sway the temptation of winning more than $72,000. The early payout likely would have been more of the initial stake wasn’t a free bet, but it still seemed a little skimp.

DraftKings will probably wish it had offered a little more.

Prince’s NFL Player Props: Dak Prescott, Deebo Samuel and more picks for the divisional playoffs

The best player prop bets for the NFL divisional playoffs.

The divisional round of the playoffs features four games I’m predicting to stay close but could absolutely end in blowouts if things break the right way for the favorites — all of them.

The Chiefs and Eagles have been significantly better than the Jaguars and Giants all season. The 49ers have played head and shoulders above everyone lately. And the Bills were Super Bowl favorites all year.

That unpredictability makes it imperative to nail prop picks that can hit regardless of the way these games break. And I think I have just the picks for that.

1 big thing each returning Eagles player can add to a potential Super Bowl run

With several players from Philadelphia back in the lineup after returning from various injuries, we’re looking at one big thing each returning Eagles player can add to a Super Bowl run

The Eagles were off this week after earning the lone bye in the NFC following their 22-16 win over the Giants in the season finale.

The team didn’t take the entire week off and returned to practice for two sessions on Thursday and Friday.

There are injury concerns to monitor, assistants that are interested in potential head coaching jobs, and talented players who are returning to the lineup.

With preparation for the divisional round matchup against the Giants underway, Philadelphia is nearing full strength ahead of the divisional round.

Here is one thing that each returning player can add to a Super Bowl run.

7 pending free agents Bears should keep eye on in Saturday’s divisional playoffs

With all eyes turned to the divisional playoffs, there are seven pending free agents the Bears should keep an eye on Saturday.

The Chicago Bears haven’t played in the NFL divisional playoffs since 2011, which hurts more than usual given the lofty expectations surrounding the team before the season.

Free agency is just about two months away, and the Bears have plenty of decisions to make both in-house and on the open market. With multiple areas of need, free agency and the NFL Draft will be important for general manager Ryan Pace.

With all eyes turned to the divisional playoffs, here are 7 pending free agents the Bears should keep an eye on Saturday:

QB Marcus Mariota

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee Titans

Technically, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Marcus Mariota won’t see the field on Saturday against the Ravens. And yet, he’s someone the Bears are surely keeping their eyes on this offseason.

Before Ryan Pace risked it all for Mitchell Trubisky, he was enamored with Mariota back in 2016 before Tennessee selected him second overall. Given the fact that both Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray are set to become free agents, Mariota is someone that Pace could target as competition for Trubisky this offseason — and perhaps as a backup plan should Trubisky struggle in 2020.
