Colorado sees OL commit Matthew Bedford flip to Oregon

Less than one week after giving his commitment to Colorado, Matthew Bedford announced a change of plans

Less than one week after giving his commitment to Colorado, former Indiana offensive lineman Matthew Bedford announced Monday that he’s flipping to Oregon.

“The Colorado organization is so amazing that I made a decision too hastily before weighing all of my options,” Bedford wrote on social media. “However, upon reflection, I believe that the University of Oregon aligns perfectly with my long-term goals and I am thrilled to join the Oregon Ducks and contribute my best on and off the football field.”

Bedford started in 38 games over five years at Indiana before entering the transfer portal this offseason. Based on his experience and overall talent, the 6-foot-6, 305-pound lineman appeared likely to start for Colorado next fall.

Instead, Bedford joins a small but impressive group of Oregon-bound transfers. Not long after landing Bedford, the Ducks picked up UCLA transfer quarterback Dante Moore on Monday evening. Oregon also secured former Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel’s commitment.

5 things to know about new Oregon OL Matthew Bedford

Here are five things to know about the Ducks’ newest lineman, Matthew Bedford, a transfer from Indiana.

Better late than never, I guess.

Former Indiana offensive lineman Matthew Bedford changed his mind and will transfer to Oregon. He had committed to Colorado less than a week ago but will be a Duck instead.

This kind of switch usually occurs with the high school recruits as signing day approaches, but not so much with transfers in the portal. While this is a huge plus for the Ducks, it’s a big blow for the Buffaloes, who are trying to rebuild their offensive line after a disastrous 2023 season.

Bedford and his size of 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, should be a contender to be a starter for the 2024 season as Oregon heads to the Big Ten next year.

Former Indiana OL Matthew Bedford commits to transfer to Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks got a transfer commitment from former Indiana guard Matthew Bedford.

The Oregon Ducks added their second transfer of the day on Monday afternoon, getting a commitment from former Indiana offensive lineman Matthew Bedford.

The veteran guard started 28 games for Indiana, most of which came at the right guard spot, with some left guard sprinkled in as well.

Bedford comes to Eugene with one year of eligibility remaining.

Earlier this offseason, Bedford announced his commitment to the Colorado Buffaloes, joining Deion Sanders and his highly-ranked transfer class in Boulder. However, the Ducks stayed persistent and got him to flip his transfer to Oregon.

With Steven Jones graduating from the right guard spot this offseason, Bedford will be a candidate to start there in 2024.

Colorado lands multi-year starting offensive lineman from Indiana

Colorado landed a multi-year starting offensive lineman from Indiana

It didn’t take long for Deion Sanders to improve the weakest link on his Colorado football team this offseason. So far, Coach Prime has landed five transfer offensive linemen, plus a commitment from 2024 five-star tackle Jordan Seaton.

Matthew Bedford became the latest transfer OL to join the Buffs when he announced his commitment on Tuesday evening. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound redshirt senior comes to Boulder from Indiana, where he started in 38 games over five seasons with the Hoosiers. Perhaps most impressive, Bedford has started at every position on the O-line except center.

Bedford, who reunites with fellow former Hoosier OL Kahlil Benson, visited Boulder this past weekend.

Here’s how social media reacted to another huge pickup for Coach Prime’s Buffs:

NFL Draft preview: Indiana Hoosiers top prospects

NFL Draft preview: Indiana Hoosiers top prospects from @joshkeatley16 #Browns #NFLDraft

We had an exciting week zero which included all three of the prospects that I highlighted from Nebraska having terrible games and playing a huge role in the giant Northwestern upset and the three prospects that I highlighted from the Pittsburgh Panthers were not that spectacular either, but one juicy match-up I will be watching closely is the Illinois Fighting Illini against the Indiana Hoosiers.

We saw Illinois dismantle a below-average Wyoming team last week, but this week they face a Big Ten opponent that I find very intriguing in Indiana.

The Hoosiers are not a great football team, but they have a few prospects that could be interesting fits in Cleveland.
