The New York Giants ended their dismal 2023 season on a high note, demolishing the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-10, at MetLife Stadium in Week 18.

The final score wasn’t indicative of just how dominant the Giants were on Sunday as they caused the Eagles to quit at halftime and pull their starters. It was Big Blue’s biggest win over their NFC East rivals since 2012.

With the win, the Giants end the season with a record of 6-11 and will select sixth overall in the 2024 NFL draft.

The Giants had a wire-to-wire win in Week 18 as they ended their five-game losing streak against the Eagles. Even at home, the Giants came into this game as pretty heavy underdogs but the team proved the doubters wrong going up 24-0 by the halftime break.

With the win the Giants end the season with a 6-11 record and 3-3 record in the division. New York now owns the sixth overall pick and has a lot to think about this offseason. For now, they are happy to spoil the end of Philadelphia’s season.

Giants place Jason Pinnock on IR, sign two from practice squad

The New York Giants have placed safety Jason Pinnock on injured reserve (IR), signed two from the practice squad and elevated two others.

Having already been declared out for Sunday’s season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants placed safety Jason Pinnock on injured reserve (IR).

Pinnock, who had a strong season after replacing Julian Love, suffered a toe injury during a Week 16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He was spelled by Dane Belton, who promptly recorded three takeaways.

In 16 games this season, Pinnock recorded 85 tackles (59 solo, six for a loss), two forced fumbles, four QB hits, 2.0 sacks, six passes defensed, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

With two spots available on the 53-man roster, the Giants also signed quarterback Jacob Eason and tight end Tyree Jackson from the practice squad.

Eason will provide additional backup at the quarterback spot with start Tyrod Taylor dealing with a back injury.

“Ty was on the injury report, so we figured we’d get another quarterback in here, see where he was in practice, and he’s done a good job,” head coach Brian Daboll said this week.

Finally, the Giants also elevated kicker Mason Crosby and offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste from the practice squad.

The New York Giants were defeated once again, this time on New Year’s Eve by the Los Angeles Rams, 26-25.

The Giants nearly pulled off the upset but fell short twice — once on a late two-point conversion attempt and another time on a potential game-winning field goal. The Giants now fall to 5-11 and third in the NFC East.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what we saw during the game and how we graded the Giants in this loss.

Giants can’t overcome self-inflicted wounds, fall to Rams, 26-25

The New York Giants couldn’t get out of their own way in Week 17, handing the Los Angeles Rams a 26-25 victory.

The New York Giants (5-10) played host to the Los Angeles Rams (8-7) at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a clash between two of the NFC’s most storied franchises.

The Rams entered the game winners of five of their last six while the Giants came in losers of their last two games.

The Giants were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 16 while the Rams came in as the NFC’s sixth seed.

No one knew what to expect but what they got was one of the most entertaining football games of the year — even if it was rather ugly and ended poorly for the Giants.

Giants place Lawrence Cager on IR, add Darrian Beavers to active roster

The New York Giants have placed Lawrence Cager on IR, added Darrian Beavers to the 53-man roster and elevated two from the practice squad.

The New York Giants have placed tight end Lawrence Cager on season-ending injured reserve (IR) with a groin issue. He had previously been listed as doubtful to play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Taking Cager’s place on the 53-man roster is second-year linebacker Darrian Beavers, who was signed from the team’s practice squad.

The Giants selected Beavers in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft but he suffered a torn ACL in the team’s second preseason game. He avoided starting this season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list but was waived as a part of final cuts and then added to the practice squad.

If Beavers sees any snaps over the next two games, they will be his first during the regular season in his career.

Additionally, the Giants have also elevated kicker Mason Crosby and wide receiver Dennis Houston from their practice squad.

For Crosby, this will be his second elevation. He made his Giants debut last week, connecting on a 52-yard field goal while also converting both of his point after attempts.

For Houston, it will be his first elevation.

Giants carefully navigating injuries at kicker, punter

The New York Giants have been ravaged by injuries this season, including at kicker and punter, which has become problematic.

The New York Giants’ special teams have always been respectable under coordinator Thomas McGaughey.

This season, which has been one of tumult and turmoil for the Giants, the ‘teams’ as they call them, have fallen victim to the same woes that plagued the rest of the team.

Injuries among the ranks leave little for the teams to choose from come game days. The Giants lost star kicker Graham Gano to a knee injury and punter Jamie Gillan has played through groin and knee ailments of his own. The return and coverage games have suffered from a rotating personnel as well.

McGaughey spoke about Gillan’s physical status on Thursday.

“Any time that you have to deal with those things, you just got to be smart, and communication is key,” McGaughey said. “So, we talked every day about how he was feeling and we just kind of, just went from there. You always got to be — at this time of year, you are in the back end of the season, got a lot of reps in that leg, you just got to be smart. He’s getting a little tender, so we are just trying to handle it the best way we both saw it fit and the training staff.”

The Giants have tried several kickers since Gano was placed on IR in early November, the latest being former Green Bay Packers standout Mason Crosby.

Crosby had some obvious rust in his first game last week in Philadelphia. His kickoffs were not reaching the end zone.

“It’s the first time he’s kicked off in a while,” said McGaughey. “Going in certain directions, it might not look like it, but going in certain directions, the wind was blowing a little bit. So, is Mason Crosby 23 years old? No, he’s not. He’s 38 years old, whatever it is. He’s in his 17th year in the league. That’s just what it is.

“I’m sure (quarterback) John Elway when he was 23 could throw it further than when he was 40. It’s just over time, you lose power. You lose some of that stuff. But he’s still definitely serviceable and he did a really good job for us Sunday.”

Former Buff Mason Crosby proved that there’s still plenty left in his 39-year-old right leg

There’s still plenty of juice left in Mason Crosby’s 39-year-old right leg.

Only three days after signing, Crosby debuted with the New York Giants during their Christmas Day game and drilled a 52-yarder in his first field goal attempt. The former Colorado kicker also made both of his extra-point opportunities in the Giants’ 33-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Crosby, who spent the previous 16 years with the Green Bay Packers, wore No. 21 for the Giants, a jersey number that has recently taken on some meaning for Colorado fans with Deion Sanders now in Boulder.

If Crosby desires to play another year in the NFL, his impressive debut with the Giants should certainly help him land somewhere before next fall.

At Colorado, Crosby was a two-time First-Team All-American and left Boulder as the school’s all-time scoring leader (307 points).
