Broncos share funny fake uniform on April Fools’ Day, tease alternate helmet

The Broncos shared a fake new uniform concept (April Fools!) and then teased the very real possibility of new alternate helmets for 2023 👀

The Denver Broncos know their fans are eagerly awaiting updates on the possibility of the team getting new uniforms, and they tapped into that anticipation with a spoof video on April Fools’ Day.

The Broncos shared a video on their official Twitter page on Saturday (April 1) showing a uniform concept “designed” by Miles, their mascot.

“It’s your uniform … but worse,” a voice says in the background. The design featured a tail, Crocs instead of cleats and mismatched socks.

“It’s a no for more,” another voice tells the mascot.

Miles did not take the rejection well, kicking a trash can on his way out:

At the end of the video, the Broncos did reward fans who stuck around with some based-in-reality nuggets.

“Good things take time,” team president Damani Leech says before a staffer chimes in to add, “Wait, but Damani, what about the alternate helmets?” The video then cuts off abruptly.

It’s a clever move from the team because fans in Denver will be left wondering if the alternate helmets are also part of the April Fool’s bit. There’s good news on that front — alternate helmets are expected to debut this fall. Well done, Broncos. Well done.

Luka Dončić traded trick shots with 76ers mascot Franklin the Dog, and it was so cool

Luka Dončić wasn’t about to let 76ers mascot Franklin the Dog show him up.

Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Dončić wasn’t about to let a mascot show him up during NBA All-Star Weekend 2023.

As Philadelphia 76ers mascot Franklin the Dog tried to flex his shooting skills with a backwards half-court shot that swooshed through the hoop.

Well, Dončić wasn’t about to let the mascot dog steal the show, not if he could help it. The Mavs star turned around and hit the exact same shot, establishing further human dominance over the mascot kingdom.

Cleveland Cavaliers center Robin Lopez, a fierce enemy of all mascots near and far, would have to approve of Dončić’s clapback bucket.

While we do know that Dončić does love Dallas Mavericks mascot Champ the horse, he must not have wanted Franklin the Dog to show up his fellow NBA players like that.

Franklin the Dog can certainly shoot, however. Maybe the NBA will get him some playing time in next year’s NBA All-Star Game.

Perhaps the league will finally give us what we really want all along: a basketball game with NBA players going against NBA mascots.

Commanders introduce ‘Major Tuddy’ as the new mascot

Yet, the Commanders are whipped on the field with Joe Gibbs in attendance.

At halftime of the Washington Commanders’ Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns, the team introduced their new mascot.

Welcome aboard, Major Tuddy.

Washington’s unveiling of the new mascot came on the same day that the Commanders honored the legendary “Hogs” with several former players in attendance. In addition, the most important figure in team history, former head coach Joe Gibbs was in town as an honorary captain and watched the game from the press box.

Several of “The Hogs” were not in attendance for the game, such as John Riggins, Joe Jacoby, Rick “Doc” Walker and others, due to their ongoing dispute with the team over the trademarking of “The Hogs.”

Unfortunately for fans, the Browns whipped Washington in the second half, potentially eliminating the Commanders from playoff contention.

 

Lots of confusion regarding Commanders new Hog mascot

Is the Commanders’ new mascot a hog named “Tuddy?”

Confusion abounds Tuesday as Attorney Seth Berenzweig appearing on the “BMitch & Finlay Show” presented and represented the stance of the original Hogs vs the Commanders regarding the use of “Hogs”.

Confusion is widespread regarding the issue at hand, the demands of the Hogs, the Redskins/Commanders’ legal rights, and even the name of the new mascot.

First, Berenzweig declared the issue is the trademark for the “Hogs.” Some of the original “Hogs” have hired Berenzweig & Leonard to file a federal trademark application which they did last summer, and are expecting to receive it, probably in January.

Berenzweig claimed his firm’s actions preceded the Commanders announcements that they were going to unveil a team mascot on Jan. 1. Berenzweig’s position is that if the Commanders go through with the mascot of a Hog, they would be guilty of trademark infringement, and thus necessitate a suit by the original “Hogs.”

Secondly, the trademark of the “Hogs” was apparently held by the Redskins many years ago; however, according to Berenzweig, that federal trademark lapsed in the early 1990s, and had not been filed for until this past summer by some of the original “Hogs.” His group of the original “Hogs” has not been afforded any legal licensing fees from the Commanders.

Thirdly, Berenzweig conceded the Hogs were part of the Redskins history, but not the Washington Football Team nor the Commanders.  He also went as far as asserting the Commanders are not the same corporate entity as the Redskins. Interestingly enough, you can hear Berenzweig begin to say the Commanders are a different “franchise,” but he caught himself in mid-sentence and altered his word selection to a different “team.”

Berenzweig stated his firm has reached out to the Commanders for two months now to reach a licensing deal, and his view, “have gotten nowhere with the team”.

Finally, adding to the confusion was Twitter activity Tuesday (what’s new?). There were those on Twitter claiming the new mascot, “Tutty” was stupid, dumb and offensive to Indians because it was a slang term for saying sh__.

Now, perhaps I am out to lunch (it certainly wouldn’t be the first time), but my understanding/interpretation when Berenzweig mentioned the mascot’s name, I interpreted him to be saying, “Tuddy” not “Tutty”.

Tuddy is slang/vernacular for touchdown. So, I certainly believe that is the correct pronunciation and spelling, not “Tutty.”

Oh well, wouldn’t it have been cool if the Commanders had determined to name the mascot after one of the original Hogs, providing their family some compensation in return?

How great would it have been for the hog to be named Jake or perhaps Doc?

Trail Blazers reporter Brooke Olzendam was hilariously jump scared by the OKC Thunder mascot

Watch out, Brooke!

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself … and Oklahoma City Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison.

During Oklahoma City’s Monday night tilt with Portland, Trail Blazers sideline reporter Brooke Olzendam got the world’s worst spooking from the mischievous Rumble.

As she was preparing to go on camera, Rumble got right behind her and got as still as one of those scary paintings that watches you while you walk by it. Olzendam had no idea Rumble was right behind her, only to find out in the most hilarious way possible.

You have to see her reaction to getting the Rumble scare of the century.

It seems that Olzendam has a longstanding rivalry with the NBA’s mascots, having been spooked by them in the past. Pierre the New Orleans Pelican has pranked Olzendam in the past.

Olzendam appeared to know exactly what Rumble had in store for her, as the two met yesterday to likely set the terms for this latest scarefest.

Good on Olzendam for having such a good sense of humor, and nice technique on the scare, Rumble. Let’s hope for Olzendam’s sake that there aren’t any more NBA scare pranks in the future.

Jaxson de Ville goes viral in Week 12 with patriotic Speedo

Jaxson de Ville’s skimpy attire didn’t go unnoticed by viewers.

Jaxson de Ville has a long history of testing limits and being one of the wackier NFL mascots. On Sunday, his risqué attire during a Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens didn’t go unnoticed.

The Jacksonville Jaguars mascot spent his time celebrating plays while wearing an American flag-inspired Speedo. When Jaxson was spotted doing some pelvic thrusts after a JaMycal Hasty touchdown, social media erupted.

The Speedo look isn’t exactly new for Jaxson de Ville. Way back in 2012, he turned heads when he donned the skimpy suit during the Pro Bowl. A year later, Jaxson de Ville filmed a dance video in the attire after losing a bet with the Seattle Seahawks mascot.

Jaxson de Ville is known for bungee jumping and zip lining into stadiums, and has previously been lit on fire. While the viewing audience may be shocked by what they’ve seen from Jaxson on Sunday, the fans of Duval probably aren’t surprised one bit.

Dog or Hog? Commanders mascot choice down to two options

The winner will be announced on Jan. 1.

In the next step of their rebrand, the Washington Commanders announced the final two contenders for the team’s new mascot. It will either be a dog or a hog.

During the first quarter of Washington’s Week 3 game against the Eagles at FedEx Field, the team announced the final two options.

The dog and hog were chosen from four finalists, which also included a superhero and a historical figure. The finalists were determined via a fan vote on Washington’s website.

Fans can continue to vote on the team’s website with the winner announced during Washington’s Jan. 1 game against the Cleveland Browns. Interestingly enough, the Commanders are honoring “The Hogs” that day. Could that be a clue?

“The Hogs,” of course, is the nickname of Washington’s great offensive line from the 1980s and early 1990s, the glory years of the franchise.

 

Ravens provide update on mascot Poe after injury during halftime

The Ravens provided an update on their mascot Poe after an injury suffered at halftime

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Washington Commanders by the final score of 17-15 on Saturday night, extending their preseason winning streak to 23 games. The team saw a few of their players leave the game with injuries, but that’s not the only part of the organization that didn’t come out unscathed.

During halftime, Baltimore’s mascot Poe got injured during a mascot vs. youth football game. He had to be carted off of the field, and many have awaited updates the mascot’s status. On Sunday, the team posted a photo of Poe with an ice pack on his knee, saying they’ll continue to share updates on the situation.

While it’s unclear what the actual injury Poe suffered was, the mascot had to be carted off of the field after being tackled during the halftime game. Hopefully the ailment isn’t serious and he’ll be able to return to action in no time.

Poe did return in the second half of the game, sparking speculation that a new person was behind the costume.

The Baltimore Ravens were ravaged by injuries in 2021 and finished 8-9.

They were playing their final preseason game on Saturday against the Washington Commanders and wound up losing a key contributor to their game-day activities.

Incredibly, Poe, the Ravens’ mascot suffered an apparent torn ACL during a halftime game. Poe was carted off the field for treatment.

No word on what the team will do if Poe has to go on IR. The Ravens may just have to wing it.

The Baltimore Ravens held their final game of the 2022 preseason against the Washington Commanders in Week 3. The team is trying to move past an injury-riddled 2021 season where many of their players were forced out of action with previous ailments. However, the injury bug hit a different part of the team on Saturday night.

During halftime, Baltimore’s mascot, Poe, suffered what appears to be a leg injury and had to be carted off of the field. The mascot appeared to get hurt while getting tackled during a mascot vs. youth game, and was immediately tended to by trainers.

It’s unclear the severity of the injury, but another mascot was spotted shortly after, with speculation of who was behind the costume.
