Penn State vs Maryland men’s basketball: How to watch on TV and live stream on Sunday

Penn State looks for a win in their final home game of the season

Penn State men’s basketball is looking to avoid limping into the Big Ten Tournament after dropping their last two games. The Nittany Lions welcome in the Maryland Terrapins on Sunday evening, hoping to keep hold of the Big Ten Tournament’s No. 11 seed and possibly move up a seed line if other games fall Penn State’s way.

Maryland sits right behind Penn State in conference standings, making the matchup that much more impactful.

It is senior night in Happy Valley, and the Nittany Lions will honor seven seniors, including players like [autotag]Ace Baldwin Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Qudas Wuhab[/autotag], and [autotag]Puff Johnson[/autotag].

Baldwin Jr. looks like the frontrunner for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. He leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth in the country in steals (83) and fifth in the country in steals per game (2.77). His 2.77 steals per game rank second amongst Power Six conference players and track to be the most by a Big Ten player in a single season in the last 31 years (since 1993 – Pat Baldwin (Northwestern) 2.96 steals per game).

Baldwin Jr.’s defensive matchup this evening will be Maryland star guard Jahmir Young, who leads the Terps, scoring 20.9 points per game and 28 points in the two program’s matchup earlier this season.

A win would mark nine conference wins for the Nittany Lions under first-year head coach [autotag]Mike Rhoades[/autotag] and would give Penn State a much-needed boost entering the Big Ten Tournament.

Maryland’s Shyanne Sellers delivered a direct warning to college basketball after the Terps upset Ohio State

Maryland is off the bubble after upsetting Ohio State, and Shyanne Sellers issued a warning to the NCAA tournament field.

The Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball team is down bad right now. They should have won on Friday when they took on the Maryland Terrapins, but junior Shyanne Sellers had other plans. Sellers’ huge scoring day ended with a statement win and her staring into a nearby camera to tell the viewers at home that Maryland was peaking at the right time.

The first colossal upset of women’s basketball tournament play goes to the Maryland Terps. After losing to Ohio State twice during the season, Maryland was ready to meet the moment Friday. Ohio State was up early but never recovered, as four Terps went on to score 15 or more points, including junior Shyanne Sellers, who had 25 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

Per Alexa Philippou of ESPN, Ohio State won 15 straight games to start the year but has now lost its last two by a combined 31 points. Now, with the Buckeyes’ latest downturn, they have likely lost their No.1 seeding in the NCAA Tournament, and the last memory they have of today’s game is Shyanne Sellers emphatically telling nearby cameras that Maryland was playing well at the right time.

Big Ten men’s basketball tournament if the season ended today

Northwestern and Minnesota drop in the Big Ten seeding, while Michigan State makes a big move up. Here is the updated Big Ten tournament seeding outlook.

The college basketball regular season is beginning to wind down, which means seeding in the Big Ten men’s basketball conference tournament is beginning to fall into place. Purdue continues to be on pace to lock up the top seed in this year’s conference tournament but the jockeying for position to grab a coveted double-bye is still active, as is the battle for a first-round bye.

The bottom four teams in the Big Ten will be paired up in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. The no. 5 through no. 9 seeds will begin play in the second round of the Big Ten tournament. The top four seeds will get a double bye and begin competing in the Big Ten tournament in the quarterfinals.

This year’s Big Ten men’s basketball tournament will be held in the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN. Games will air on Peacock, Big Ten Network, or CBS and Paramount+.

We’ll be keeping track of the Big Ten tournament picture from now until the end of the regular season by updating this Big Ten tournament outlook on a daily basis.

Maryland Terrapins looks poised for down year in early Big Ten ranking

The Maryland Terrapins suffered a lot of roster defections this offseason. They look set up for a down year in 2024.

It’s never too early for a “way too early” Big Ten power ranking! Things will change. Players will hurt the portal, players will transfer in, and injuries will happen but for the most part, we have a pretty good understanding of rosters after National Signing Day and so much transfer portal movement.

In each part of this series, we will unveil where each of the 18 teams in the new look conference begins. We started at No. 1 with the revamped Ohio State Buckeyes. Then, the Oregon Ducks come in at the second spot. Coming in at No. 3 were the defending National Champion Michigan Wolverines, who are in a bit of a transition period.

At No. 4, we unveiled the Penn State Nittany Lions, who are returning a lot of talent from their 2023 roster. Then we made way for the old reliable, the Iowa Hawkeyes. At No. 6, another new addition to the conference, the USC Trojans. Next up at No. 7, the Wisconsin Badgers came in, followed by the Washington Huskies at No. 8 in the ranking.

Coming in at No. 9, another pretty consistent program with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. They come into the 2024 season as a real wildcard. Speaking of wildcards, there may not be a bigger one than the Nebraska Cornhuskers. They come in at No. 10 on the ranking.

Following Nebraska is the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at No. 11, coming off a bit of a breakout season in 2023 under head coach Greg Schiano. A team in transition, but an exciting one, is the Indiana Hoosiers. At No. 13 is the Michigan State Spartans, who are another team in transition. Then you have the Purdue Boilermakers at No. 14 who enter the second year under former Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters.

Another new entrant into the new look Big Ten conference, the UCLA Bruins enter with a lot of uncertainty at No. 15. Coming in at No. 16, the Maryland Terrapins have a more familiar face in Mike Locksley heading into year seven.

After a slow start to his tenure, Locksley has gotten Maryland back to consistency the last three years, ending each campaign with a bowl game appearance. That building has been admirable but based on roster talent, there could be a step back in 2024. A big reason is the offense, which had a lot of turnover from last season. The offensive line has to replace four starters, while also breaking in former NC State quarterback as their new signal caller. There is some talent but there are just a lot of moving parts for one offseason.

On defense, there just aren’t a ton of attractive playmakers, especially with linebacker Jaishawn Barham transferring. They did receive a very underrated transfer with former Bowling Green cornerback Jalen Huskey but there just isn’t a ton of upside to get excited about. This feels like a down year on the horizon.

Ohio State women’s basketball clinches share of Big Ten title with win vs. Maryland

Raise the banner. #GoBucks

The Ohio State women’s basketball team has clinched at least a share of the Big Ten title thanks to a 79-66 win over Maryland at home on Sunday.

It was more of what we’ve seen from the Buckeyes this season with a pressure defense that forced 15 Maryland turnovers enroute to equalizing the possessions and high-quality shots. OSU shot 50% from the field to the Terrapins 41.4%.

Ohio State led almost the entire game, notching a 21-13 lead at the end of the first half and a 44-31 lead at the half. The Buckeyes led by as many as 15 points. The Terrapins made a game of it in the second half, eventually closing to within five points in the fourth quarter, but the Buckeyes continued to make plays on both sides of the court to pull ahead and salt the game away.

All five starters finished in double figures for Ohio State. Celeste Taylor led the way with 20 points followed by Jacy Sheldon (17), Cotie McMahon (15), Rebeka Mikulasikova (11), and Taylor Thierry (10).

There are still two regular season games left, but with Ohio State holding a two-game lead over second-place Iowa and Indiana, it’ll be able to raise a banner when the time is right. The win now improves OSU’s overall record to 24-3 and its conference mark to an astounding 15-1 in one of the best conferences in the country.

The stage is now set for the chance to win the conference outright when Ohio State hosts Michigan on Wednesday, the only program to beat the Buckeyes in the conference this year.

Game on.

Ohio State women’s basketball vs. Maryland: How to watch, stream the game

The Ohio State women will try to clinch at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title on Sunday. #GoBucks

The Ohio State women’s basketball team is on a tear, having won 13 in a row and grabbing sole possession of first place in the Big Ten with just three regular season games to go. The Buckeyes have a two-game lead on Iowa and Indiana and can clinch at least a share of the conference title with a win vs. Maryland at home on Sunday.

Lose though, and things tighten up and with a potential massive clash with the Hawkeyes at the end of the season. In other words, take care of business today against the ‘Terps and make things easier coming down the road as a potential No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

Maryland has had some mixed results this season and would love nothing more than to knock off the Buckeyes in their place, and you can bet OSU will get its best shot. As an added bonus, OSU will be recognizing its seniors on Sunday, so there’s that as well.

Wisconsin’s game against Maryland will only be available on one streaming platform

Wisconsin is back to streaming-only against Maryland

Here we are again.

The Wisconsin Badgers (17-9, 9-6 Big Ten) return to the court Tuesday night against the Maryland Terrapins (14-12, 6-9 Big Ten), desperately needing to steer the season in the right direction.

The Badgers have lost five of their last six games, including Saturday’s overtime buzzer-beater loss to Iowa. The team has fallen far from where it was atop the Big Ten entering February. There is still time for a successful season to be salvaged, but it must start in this final stretch of the Big Ten schedule.

For fans tired of watching Wisconsin struggle to play well, there is some good news. Tuesday’s game will be available exclusively on NBC’s streaming service Peacock.

The Badgers last played on Peacock one week ago — a 62-54 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Maybe that can be a sign of good things to come.

If fans somehow still don’t have a subscription, it costs $5.99 per month, or $59.99 for the entire year.

To say that Wisconsin needs a win on Tuesday would be an understatement. That might be a secondary worry for some, that after figuring out how to watch the game.

Hall of Fame college basketball coach Lefty Driesell passes away at age 92

Hall of Fame basketball coach Lefty Driesell, who won 786 games in 41 seasons, died at his home on Saturday at age 92.

Hall of Fame college basketball coach Charles ‘Lefty’ Driesell passed away on Saturday morning at age 92, according to an announcement from the University of Maryland.

Driesell was a Division 1 basketball coach for 41 seasons, winning 786 games including 100 or more at four different schools – Davidson, Maryland, James Madison, and Georgia State.

At the time of Driesell’s retirement in 2003 only three coaches had more victories – Bob Knight, Adolph Rupp, and Dean Smith.

Driesell’s success extended to the NCAA Tournament as well, where he led all four schools to the Big Dance and took both Maryland and Davidson to the Elite 8 two separate times.

Coach Driesell was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018 at age 86, a long overdue honor after getting named to the College Basketball Hall of Fame 11 years prior in 2007.

“Lefty should have been in years ago,” Krzyzewski said at the time. “His contributions to the game go way beyond wins and losses, and he won a lot. It’s an honor he’s deserved for a long time.”

Driesell is credited with inventing Midnight Madness when he had his players do a midnight run on the first legal day of NCAA practice. Two years later he opened the Field House at midnight and thousands of fans came to watch the open practice.

He also had a role in forming the modern NCAA Tournament when his 1974 Maryland team – which was upset by NC State in the ACC championship in one of the greatest college basketball games of all time – didn’t get to make the NCAA Tournament, the rule was changed to allow at-large bids, known at the time as “The Maryland Rule.”

Driesell is survived by his grandson, Ty Anderson, who is an assistant coach at Wofford and who told the Washington Post Driesell died at his home in Virginia Beach.

Ohio State basketball snaps losing streak, beats Maryland

Look, a W! #GoBucks

It certainly wasn’t easy, but the Ohio State basketball team finally broke through with another victory. It took double overtime, but the Buckeyes were able to do just enough to beat the Maryland Terrapins in Columbus by a score of 79-75.

Things looked a bit bleak for awhile with Maryland controlling much of the first half, leading by as much as ten points at one time and only surrendering the lead when Ohio State scored the last bucket of the half to go into the locker room up 33-32.

It would be a nip and tuck affair the entire second half with the lead see-sawing from one team to the other all the way throughout, eventually heading into one overtime, and then another. Both teams made plays to be in position to win, but OSU would get a block with Maryland down just two points that turned into a game-sealing dunk by Roddy Gayle Jr. to stop the losing streak at five.

Bruce Thornton led Ohio State with 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. Gayle was the only other Buckeye player in double figures with 17 points.

The win improves Ohio State’s record to 14-10 overall and 4-9 in the Big Ten. It’s next contest is scheduled to be against Wisconsin in Madison on Tuesday.
