Rookie Martin Emerson Jr. listed as a lockdown cornerback

The rook gets a shoutout!

The Cleveland Browns found a gem in the third round when they selected cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. out of Mississippi State. As a starter when the Browns go into nickel sets across from Denzel Ward, Emerson has been a force, including a standout performance against Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

And it shows up in deeper metrics as well. Pranav Rajaram of 4for4 Fantasy Football pulled data to highlight both forced incompletions and receiving yards allowed, and Emerson Jr. grades out quite well in both categories. This locks Emerson into the same quadrant as the likes of Sauce Gardner of the New York Jets, A.J. Terrell of the Atlanta Falcons, and James Bradberry of the Philadelphia Eagles.

It would be a tough ask to want more out of Emerson Jr. than what he has given the Browns as a rookie. Greg Newsome II was also listed in the “solid” section as well.

4 Downs: The guts of Jacoby Brissett, Jedrick Wills, and a must-needed win vs. Buccaneers

Finally a Victory Monday version of 4 Downs! What stood out from the Browns’ win over the Buccaneers?

The Cleveland Browns snuck out a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in overtime. Now sitting at 4-7 on the season, the Browns get their starting quarterback back under center after an 11-game suspension as well. It was the first time we have seen the Browns rally for a come-from-behind win in quite some time as they marched down the field for a last-minute drive, then fought out a tough overtime period to come away victorious. And we got some great postgame quotes out of it as well.

On this Victory Monday, it feels good to be writing a winning edition of the Week 12 4 Downs. From quarterback Jacoby Brissett to left tackle Jedrick Wills and more, what stood out the most from this much-needed victory as the Browns now look to make it two-in-a-row against the Houston Texans?

WATCH: Browns CB Martin Emerson Jr.’s epic pick-6 in preseason debut

Watch Cleveland Browns rookie Martin Emerson Jr. wrestle a pass away from an opponent before racing the other way for a touchdown

The Cleveland Browns didn’t make a selection in the 2022 NFL draft until halfway through the third round, but it looks like they made the most of it.

That pick, Mississippi State cornerback Martin Emerson Jr., wasted little time showing off his big-play ability in his NFL preseason debut Friday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Emerson wrestled a pass away from a Jags receiver, then proceeded to weave his way through would-be tacklers before racing all the way to the end zone for a score.

The Browns already had one of the NFL’s most promising corner groups, and Emerson just made it even more formidable.

2022 NFL draft: Martin Emerson Jr. scouting report

Everything NFL draft fans need to know about Mississippi State cornerback Martin Emerson Jr.

A three-year starter who played his best football in 2020, Mississippi State’s Martin Emerson will look to recapture that success at the next level as he heads into the 2022 NFL draft.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Bulldogs’ talented cover man:

Seahawks go cornerback, left tackle in new 2022 three-round mock draft

Seahawks go cornerback, left tackle in new 2022 three-round mock draft

The Seattle Seahawks need to rebuild on both sides of the line of scrimmage and restock at a few key positions this offseason.

In a new 2022 three-round mock from our friends at Draft Wire, Seattle went cornerback in round two followed by left tackle in the third. Here’s who they came up with.

Pick No. 41 overall: Mississippi State CB Martin Emerson Jr.

Emerson (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) has the requisite length for a Pete Carroll corner. He totaled one interception, 15 pass breakups and six tackles for a loss during his college career. If the Seahawks lose their starting right cornerback D.J. Reed to another team in free agency, Emerson might be a worthy option to target at this spot.

Pick No. 72 overall: UCLA OT Sean Rhyan

Rhyan (6-foot-5, 320 pounds) only declared for the draft a couple weeks ago. He was named first-team All-Pac-12 this year. Duane Brown is now 36 years old and also is about to become a free agent. Whether they re-sign Brown for another season or not, Seattle has to start looking for a potential successor at left tackle, making Rhyan an interesting prospect to watch.

Giants address multiple needs in Draft Wire’s three-round 2022 mock

In the latest 2022 mock draft from our friends at Draft Wire, the New York Giants address several dire needs over the first three rounds.

The New York Giants, barring any unforeseen changes, will enter the offseason with needs along the offensive line, at linebacker and along the edge.

They could also use a little added depth at cornerback and perhaps a two-way tight end. Some would even argue a quarterback, but that’s a debate for another day.

In the latest 2022 NFL mock draft from our friend Luke Easterling at Draft Wire, the Giants do a good job addressing most of the above needs over the first three rounds.
