Colts worked out pair of WRs, veteran DT

The Colts worked out a pair of WRs and a veteran DT on Tuesday.

The Indianapolis Colts held a workout for two wide receivers and a veteran defensive tackle, according to the league’s transaction wire Tuesday.

Among the players who worked out for the Colts included wide receivers Marquez Callaway and Bryan Edwards along with defensive tackle Marlon Davidson.

Considering the shoulder injury Alec Pierce is dealing with, it makes sense the Colts are seeing what is available on the market. They also signed Juwann Winfree to the active roster Tuesday so they may be preparing for Pierce to miss some time.

Working out Davidson likely coincides with the suspension that hit Grover Stewart for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Davidson, 25, was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft out of Auburn by the Atlanta Falcons. He missed the 2022 season due to a knee injury and spent the offseason with the San Francisco 49ers. In 19 career games (one start), Davidson has 29 tackles (14 solo), one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, one sack and one interception.

Ex-Falcons DL Marlon Davidson signs with 49ers

Former #Falcons second-round pick Marlon Davidson has signed a one-year deal with the 49ers

Three years ago, the Atlanta Falcons selected defensive lineman Marlon Davidson with pick No. 47 of the 2020 NFL draft. However, the former Auburn standout never found his footing in Atlanta and was released by the team last October.

Davidson has found a new home in San Francisco, signing a one-year deal with the 49ers on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

During Davidson’s two and a half years in Atlanta, he appeared in 19 games with one start, racking up 29 combined tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.

Injuries have been the biggest obstacle for the former second-round pick. Prior to the start of the 2022 season, it was reported that Davidson had his knee scoped.

After starting the year on the injured reserve list, he was later released without appearing in a single game. Davidson will join former Falcons defensive back Isaiah Oliver on a loaded 49ers defense.

Falcons release former second-round pick Marlon Davidson

#Breaking: The Atlanta Falcons have released former second-round pick Marlon Davidson.

The Atlanta Falcons released former second-round pick Marlon Davidson, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon. Davidson, a standout defensive lineman at Auburn, has not played in a game for the Falcons this season.

The team never found a consistent role for Davidson, who appeared in 19 games since being drafted in 2020 by former general manager Thomas Dimitroff. The Falcons fired both Dimitroff and former head coach Dan Quinn five games into the 2020 season, and Davidson wasn’t a great fit in current defensive coordinator Dean Pees’ scheme.

Perhaps the Dallas Cowboys will give Davidson a shot since it’s been a consistent landing spot for former Falcons. Quinn, now serving as the Cowboys defensive coordinator, just signed Kendall Sheffield to the Cowboys’ practice squad.

The Falcons also released OLB Jordan Brailford from the practice squad, and filled his spot with cornerback Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes.

Falcons DL Marlon Davidson had knee scoped, per ESPN report

On Thursday, Falcons third-year defensive lineman Marlon Davidson had his knee scoped, ESPN reported. Davidson will miss the preseason.

Whether it was the wide receiver position in 2021, or the secondary in 2019, it seems like every year the Atlanta Falcons get decimated by injuries at one particular position. This year, it appears the defensive line has drawn the short straw.

Third-year defensive lineman Marlon Davidson had his knee scoped on Thursday, ESPN’s Michael Rothstein reported. The injury will cause Davidson to miss the remainder of the preseason at the very least, according to Rothstein.

Davidson, 24, was drafted by former Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff in 2020. The team later fired Dimitroff, along with former head coach Dan Quinn, five games into Davidson’s career.

On top of adjusting to a schematic shift on defense, Davidson has been sidelined with injuries over his first two NFL seasons. The former Auburn standout has played in 19 career games, appearing in 11 for Atlanta last year.

LETS GO MARLON DAVIDSON

The former Auburn Tiger just had a major play.

Atlanta Falcons defensive end Marlon Davidson just intercepted Tom Brady and ran it back for a touchdown.

This was the first pick-six of his career.

Davidson was a second-round pick for the Falcons when they took him with the 47th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He made the Falcons proud with this play.

Marlon Davidson likely to miss Falcons’ second preseason game

So far, Davidson and defensive lineman John Cominsky (concussion) have been ruled out for Saturday’s matchup in Miami.

Defensive lineman Marlon Davidson had a fairly strong showing against the Titans in the Falcons’ preseason opener. The former second-round pick out of Auburn racked up three tackles, including a sack and a QB hit, during Friday’s game but was held out of Monday’s practice due to a knee injury.

It looks like Davidson will miss Atlanta’s second preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins this weekend, according to head coach Arthur Smith.

“There’s nothing long term with Marlon,” said Smith. “It’s trying to be smart, being proactive. It won’t be a long-term thing and I wont anticipate him going down to Miami but I’m not concerned that it’s long term… That’s the plan right now.”

Davidson got off to a rough start in 2020 as he only played in eight games due to injuries and his time on the COVID-19 reserve. So far, Davidson and defensive lineman John Cominsky (concussion) have been ruled out for Saturday’s matchup in Miami.

Falcons have one player named to PFF’s All-Rookie Team

The Atlanta Falcons struggled defensively in  2020, but the team may have another hidden gem deep in last year’s draft.

The Atlanta Falcons struggled defensively in 2020, but the team may have found another hidden gem deep in last year’s draft class.

The writers over at Pro Football Focus unveiled their 2020 All-Rookie Team on Monday and linebacker Mykal Walker was the only Falcons player named on the list. Here’s PFF’s Ben Linsey on Walker’s rookie season.

Walker is one of the players who shined in a more limited role. Across 387 defensive snaps this season, he earned a 74.0 overall grade that included a 90.7 grade in coverage. Walker allowed just 74 passing yards into his coverage on 152 coverage snaps all season. He may not have the same stats as several of the other rookie linebackers across the league, but his play warrants some recognition here.

A fourth-round selection out of Fresno State in 2020, Walker was the 119th overall selection. Little was expected of the rookie linebacker when he was drafted, but his play this season has warranted a bigger role going forward.

It may come as a surprise to Falcons fans that first-round pick A.J. Terrell is not named in PFF’s rookie rankings. The two corners who made the list Terrell were L’Darius Sneed of the Chiefs and Cameron Dantzler of the Vikings.

10 things the Falcons must figure out over the final 3 games

Here are 10 things the Falcons must figure out over the final three games of the 2020 season.

The Atlanta Falcons have won just four games this season, and have already eliminated themselves from playoff contention. With a new general manager set to be hired in the offseason, the future is completely up in the air.

Here are 10 things the Falcons must figure out over the final three games of the 2020 season.

Falcons activate rookie Marlon Davidson from reserve/COVID-19 list

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2020 draft class has been through a lot in just seven weeks of regular season football.

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2020 draft class has been through a lot in just seven weeks of regular season football. Three of the team’s six rookies have spent time on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list.

On Monday, the team activated second-round pick Marlon Davidson from the league’s new virus designation, leaving DE John Cominsky as the only remaining player on the list.

Davidson was placed on the COVID-19 reserve nearly two weeks ago. Cornerback A.J. Terrell and safety Jaylinn Hawkins were the other two Falcons rookies to spend time on the reserve this season.

Panthers enter ‘intensive protocol’ after Falcons player tests positive for COVID-19

As a precaution, the team has entered the NFL’s “intensive protocol” following Davidson’s positive test.

Falcons rookie defensive tackle Marlon Davidson tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday and has been placed on the team’s COVID/reserve list. Since the Panthers just faced Atlanta on Sunday, it’s possible that Davidson exposed Carolina’s players to the virus.

As a precaution, the team has entered the NFL’s “intensive protocol” following Davidson’s positive test.

The players who are most vulnerable could be Carolina’s interior offensive linemen. Center Matt Paradis, left guard Chris Reed and right guard John Miller all may have been exposed to particles when they were lined up in close quarters across from Davidson. It’s impossible to say exactly who is at risk though, which is why it’s smart to take every positive test seriously.

This is yet another example of the dangers that NFL personnel are taking on by playing this season. It’s also a strong point against the worst-than-tone-deaf comments made by Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan following Tuesday night’s win over the Bills.

https://twitter.com/Titans/status/1316199409839996928

For the team’s official Twitter account to share this is obscene.

Despite what former NFL kicker and current idiot analyst Jay Feely said during last night’s broadcast, the Titans did not “overcome adversity” by not being able to practice and prepare for the Bills. Tennessee players willingly violated the league’s protocols and put the season at risk.

We don’t know if Davidson did the same or if he was just unlucky. Either way, the league needs to hammer the Titans organization and send a message that violating the COVID-19 rules is unacceptable.
