The Miami Marlins (59-56) and the Cincinnati Reds (60-56) wrap up a 3-game series Wednesday at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. ET (MLB Network/ESPN+). Season series: Reds lead 3-2

The Marlins won 3-2 on Tuesday at GABP, as Miami picked up a victory for just the 2nd time in 5 meetings with Cincinnati this season. The Under (10) cashed Tuesday and has connected in 3 straight meetings. The total has gone low in 5 of the past 6 games overall for Miami.

The Reds have dropped 7 of the past 8 games overall, slipping 1 1/2 games back of the 1st-place Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. The Under has cashed in 6 straight games for Cincinnati.

Marlins at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Marlins 5, Reds 3

Moneyline

The MARLINS (+110) are worth a look as short ‘dogs on the road.

Cueto, who spent his first 7-plus MLB season with the Reds, makes his first road start of the season in his old stomping grounds. He’ll face a skidding Cincinnati team that has dropped 7 of the past 8 games overall.

While the Reds are 4-3 in Ashcraft’s past 7 starts overall, he has posted a 3-6 record with a 6.29 ERA across 63 IP in 12 home outings and is 4-5 with a dismal 7.61 ERA with a .304 OBA across 47 1/3 IP over 10 daytime starts.

Run line/Against the spread

The MARLINS +1.5 (-165) aren’t super expensive if you can’t bring yourself to back them and Cueto straight up and want a little insurance instead.

There is some risk, as Miami is just 3-4 across the past 7 games as an underdog on the run line.

Over/Under

UNDER 10 (-110) might be the best play on the board in this getaway day game.

The Under has cashed in each of the first 2 games in this series and is 7-2 across the past 9 games overall for the Marlins.

The Reds have averaged just 3.2 runs per game (RPG) across their past 6 outings, cashing the Under in each of those contests.

Miami Marlins at Cincinnati Reds odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Miami Marlins at Cincinnati Reds odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Marlins (58-56) and Cincinnati Reds (60-55) square off Tuesday in the 2nd game of a 3-game set. First pitch from Great American Ball Park is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Reds odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Reds lead 3-1 after a 5-2 victory Monday

The Marlins are still in the thick of the NL Wild Card race but haven’t helped their chances with their recent play. Miami has dropped its last 5 games and 7 of its last 8 to fall 1 1/2 games behind the Reds for the final playoff berth.

However, the Reds have been scuffling lately as well, and they have allowed Milwaukee to push past them in the NL Central. Cincinnati had lost 6 games in a row prior to Monday’s win.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 9-8 win vs. Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday

  • Career vs. Reds: 0-2, 4.60 ERA (15 2/3 IP, 8 ER) with a 15.5 K/9 in 3 starts

  • Last start: Loss, 3 IP, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K in 5-3 road loss vs. Chicago Cubs Thursday

Marlins at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Marlins 7, Reds 4

Moneyline

The Reds are 11-8 this season when Weaver has started but he deserves no credit for the winning record as he’s been one of the worst pitchers in the game. He has really been getting roughed up in his hitter-friendly home park and Garrett is clearly the better pitcher in this matchup.

BET MARLINS (-135).

Run line/Against the spread

The Miami bats have been pretty quiet lately, scoring 2 runs or fewer in 6 of their last 8 contests. They should wake up against Weaver but sticking with the moneyline makes sense here.

PASS, but if you do make a play, consider bumping it up to MARLINS -2.5 (+180), in case Weaver really blows up again.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Weaver has registered an unsightly 8.54 ERA with 30/23 K/BB over 45 1/3 IP across his last 11 starts. Garrett has recorded a 6.08 ERA over his last 5 starts, though the skills — which include 24 K and 4 BB in 23 1/3 IP — have been solid, and a .361 BABIP has played a large role in the struggles.

Garrett is unlikely to completely shut down the Cincinnati offense and it’s really tough to play the Under anytime Weaver is on the mound at Great American Ball Park. Look for this total to push just OVER 10.5 (-115).

The Miami Marlins (58-55) open a 3-game series against the Cincinnati Reds (59-55) on Monday at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Reds odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Reds lead 2-1

The Marlins were shut out 6-0 by the Texas Rangers on Sunday to extend their losing skid to 4 games. Miami is now 14 games behind the 1st place Atlanta Braves in the NL East due to its recent woes.

The Reds lost 6-3 to the Washington Nationals, handing them their 6th consecutive defeat. Cincinnati is 1 1/2 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the race for the NL Central crown.

Marlins at Reds projected starters

RHP Eury Perez vs. LHP Brandon Williamson

Perez (5-3, 2.36 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.09 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 10.3 K/9 through 53 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K in a 3-0 home loss to St. Louis Cardinals on July 6

  • 2023 vs. Reds: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 7 K in a 7-4 loss on May 12 in MLB debut

Marlins at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Marlins 5, Reds 3

Moneyline

Both teams have sputtered since the All-Star break, but I’ll back the MARLINS (-135) on the road with Perez returning to Miami’s rotation on Monday.

Run line/Against the spread

The MARLINS -1.5 (+120) are a decent value as they should have success against Williamson. The Marlins are tied for the 4th-best wOBA (.356) and own the 5th-best wRC+ (126) against left-handed pitching since the start of July.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

This game takes place at a hitter-friendly venue, but I’ll go with the UNDER 10.5 (-110) in this contest. Both of these teams are 6-4 to the Under in their last 10 games overall.

The Marlins are also 10-5 to the Under in their last 15 games, while the Reds are 18-6 to the Under in their last 24.
