UFC 289 post-event facts: Charles Oliveira sets all-time bar for finishes, bonuses

The best facts and figures to come out of UFC 289, including Amanda Nunes’ retirement resume and Charles Oliveira’s insane stats.

The UFC made its long-awaited return to Canada on Saturday with UFC 289, which took place at Rogers Arena in Vancouver and featured a clean sweep of results from fighters competing out of “The Great White North.”

Despite the Canadian success, it was a Brazilian who closed the show strong. Double UFC champ [autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag] (23-5 MMA, 16-2 UFC) dominated [autotag]Irene Aldana[/autotag] (14-7 MMA, 7-5 UFC) for five rounds in the main event, winning a unanimous decision before announcing her retirement from MMA.

Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 289 took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $236,500.

VANCOUVER – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 289 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $236,500.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC 289 took place at Rogers Arena. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $32,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

UFC Fight Night 215 post-event facts: Jack Della Maddalena makes waves with third-straight KO

Check out all the facts and figures from UFC Fight Night 215, which featured a number of notable feats.

The UFC closed its November schedule on Saturday with UFC Fight Night 215, a decision-heavy event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

One fighter who didn’t need the judges, however, was [autotag]Kennedy Nzechukwu[/autotag] (11-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC), who made the most of his makeshift main event opportunity with a second-round TKO of [autotag]Ion Cutelaba[/autotag] (16-9-1 MMA, 5-8-1 UFC) in their light heavyweight clash.

UFC books Vanessa Demopoulos vs. Maria Oliveira for Nov. 19

Strawweights are the second fight booked for the promotion’s Nov. 19 event.

Strawweights are headed to the UFC Fight Night event Nov. 19.

[autotag]Vanessa Demopoulos[/autotag] (8-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and [autotag]Maria Oliveira[/autotag] (13-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will square off on the card scheduled for that date, which doesn’t have a location or venue at this time.

Two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the matchup and date but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Demopoulos previously hinted at a fight against Oliveira on an Instagram story.

Both Demopoulos and Oliveira are coming off split decision victories. Demopoulos extended her winning streak to two with a split decision over Jinh Yu Frey in June. That came five months after she submitted Silvana Gomez Juarez (and famously jumped into Joe Rogan’s arms afterward).

Meanwhile, Oliveira picked up her first UFC win in June when she defeated Gloria de Paula. That split decision victory came after a unanimous decision loss to Tabatha Ricci in October.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for Nov. 19 includes:

  • Kevin Natividad vs. Ricky Turcios
  • Vanessa Demopoulos vs. Maria Oliveira

UFC on ESPN 37 medical suspensions: Josh Emmett among 6 fighters suspended indefinitely by Texas commission

Six fighters were handed indefinite medical suspensions after what many fans are calling the most violent UFC card of the year.

UFC on ESPN 37 took place Saturday at Moody Center in Austin, Texas where the promotion put on what many fans are calling one of the most violent cards of 2022.

With violence, however, comes injuries. Tuesday, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the commissioning body that regulated the event, released a list of medical suspensions for UFC on ESPN 37 fighters. The TDLR does not give injury specifics, but reveals the duration of suspensions.

Among those handed indefinite suspensions were main event winner Josh Emmett, co-main event loser Tim Means, Albert Duraev, Julian Marquez, Deron Winn, and Kyle Daukaus. Note: fighters can return sooner than the date listed if they receive medical clearance from a physician prior to completion of their suspension.
