Nebraska hosting former Texas wide receiver this weekend

Nebraska could add another top prospect to the wide receiver room via the transfer portal.

This weekend, the Nebraska Cornhuskers continue to remain active on the transfer portal by hosting a former Texas wide receiver. Marcus Washington is visiting Lincoln this weekend. The St. Louis, Missouri native, would be the second former Longhorn (quarterback Casey Thompson) and third wide receiver (Trey Palmer, Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda) to join Nebraska via the portal should he decide to commit to the Huskers. In 2021, Washington had 18 receptions, 277 yards, and two touchdowns in only five games.

This is the second time that Nebraska has actively recruited the wideout. Washington was pursued by the Huskers coming out of high school. He would have two seasons of eligibility should he join his former Texas teammate. Fellow Big Ten team Purdue and Utah are both actively recruiting the former 4-star prospect.

4-star Georgia CB commit Marcus Washington reclassifies, will enroll with 2022 class

Georgia’s DB class just got even better.

Georgia finished the 2022 recruiting cycle with the nation’s No. 3 class, trailing only Texas A&M and Alabama. However, Georgia was apparently not done yet with its 2022 class.

4-star cornerback Marcus Washington Jr., who committed to Georgia as a member of the 2023 class, has reclassified and will skip his senior season at Grovetown High School in Grovetown, Georgia.

He will enroll at UGA as a member of the 2022 class in a few short weeks following graduation along with the rest of Georgia’s signing class who are yet to enroll.

“I just wanted to get there to that amazing program they have and just continue to build on that relationship with the coaching staff. I am just ready to be a part of it because it is an amazing thing going on up there,” Washington told Dawgs247. “I can train and develop right now, who would not want to be a part of that?”

18 members of Georgia’s 2022 class enrolled early, leaving 12 – including Washington – set to enroll shortly.

Washington ranked as the nation’s No. 69 overall player and No. 8 ranked cornerback for the class of 2023.

Georgia signed maybe the greatest class of defensive backs ever, and with the commitment of Washington, it got even better. Georgia’s incoming defensive backs include:

5-star ATH Malaki Starks (enrolled early)

5-star CB Daylen Everette (enrolled early)

5-star CB Jaheim Singletary

4-star CB Julian Humphrey

4-star S JaCorey Thomas (enrolled early)

4-star CB Marcus Washington

Montgomery Advertiser identifies six players Auburn should target

Six possible targets in the transfer portal that could help this team in 2022 and beyond.

The Auburn Tigers have questions that need to be answered prior to the kickoff of the 2022 college football season. Just like everyone else, there are more options to address those questions.

With the overpopulated transfer portal, coaches and staff can reach out to these student-athletes looking for a new opportunity. Recently, Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin addressed the three positions that they need to address in the portal.

Harsin understands that he needs help at wide receiver, edge rusher, and safety. With those three positions in mind, Bennett Durando of the Montgomery Advertiser laid out six potential targets. He did note that these players were necessarily being targeted but it is just some food for thought.

With that being said, let’s get to the list that starts with a former Texas Longhorns pass catcher.

A look at Texas’ WR depth chart after the addition of Isaiah Neyor

Texas’ offense will have talented options at wide receiver in 2022.

Brennan Marion was hired from Pitt to help boost wide receiver development and recruiting.

Marion has hit the ground running upon his arrival in Austin with the flip of Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor from Tennessee.

Neyor showed his big-play ability with his 878 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago at Wyoming.

Texas needed a proven commodity to pair opposite Xavier Worthy and they got exactly with the addition of Neyor.

Wide receiver production took a major hit when Jordan Whittington went down with an injury midway through the 2021 season. A trio of Worthy, Neyor and Whittington has the potential to be explosive.

Whoever ends up winning the quarterback battle next season will have a plethora of weapons to throw to.

Here is a look at some of the notable wide receivers on Texas’s roster:

Studs and duds from Texas’ 31-23 loss to West Virginia

Studs and duds from Texas’ sixth straight loss.

The Longhorns will not be going bowling this season after suffering their seventh loss on the season to West Virginia. The loss extends Texas’ losing streak to six consecutive games.

Texas was unable to come back from an early West Virginia 14-0 lead.

After Steve Sarkisian chose to bench quarterback Casey Thompson, Hudson Card gave the Texas offense some life in the second half. His 52-yard bomb to Xavier Worthy made it a 21-17 game.

Unfortunately, the Texas defense was incapable of getting off of the field on third down. The Mountainers converted on third downs of both 18 yards and 15 yards on scoring drives in the second half.

Texas had an opportunity to tie the game down eight points late in the fourth quarter, but Thompson threw a costly interception the play after Card suffered a foot injury.

The difference in the game was third down. The Texas offense was 2-10 on third down while West Virginia was 12-20.

Texas tinkers with depth chart heading into vital Oklahoma State matchup

Steve Sarkisian makes a few changes for this week

Even if Texas had pulled out a win against Oklahoma, changes were going to be needed. After having as much as a 21 point lead, a total collapse happened on both sides of the ball. Welcome to the Red River Shootout, I guess.

Steve Sarkisian made it clear from early on that whoever he thinks gives Texas the best chance to win games is going to play. However, outside of the quarterback change, he has yet to show he is willing to make adjustments to better the squad.

It finally seems as if a few changes will be made this weekend.

Going into Oklahoma State, Sarkisian has tweaked with a few positions across the depth chart. A couple is due to key injuries but a much-needed change is being made across the offensive line.

Here is a further look at the replacements Texas decided to make.

First, Jordan Whittington replacement named

Texas received news that only adds more salt in the wound after Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma.

Star receiver Jordan Whittington is set to have surgery on his clavicle after going down in the fourth quarter against Oklahoma. Head coach Steve Sarkisian told the media on Monday that there is no timetable for the injury, but it is one that will likely keep him out for an extended amount of time.

Unfortunately, Whittington has been unable to avoid the injury bug during his collegiate career up to this point, as he played in the same amount of games this season (six), as he did in the first two years combined. The sophomore out of Cuero, Texas was poised to have a big season if he could stay healthy.

He is currently tied with Xavier Worthy for the most catches on the team with 24, and is second on the team in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He is clearly a huge loss for the Longhorns, as the receiver group has struggled at times to be consistent.

Whittington was quarterback Casey Thompson’s most reliable option on third down, as he had nine third down receptions on the season. The Longhorns lost a good one, and will need someone to step up to fill the void.

Here are four players that can step up and possibly fill the shoes of Whittington.
