Florida fails to make top 6 for one of its top QB targets

Four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina didn’t include Florida among his top six schools on Sunday.

Florida and head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] are about to smash the reset button on their quarterback board for 2023 after a tough weekend. Four-star quarterback [autotag]Marcus Stokes[/autotag] announced his commitment to Penn State on Friday and then four-star quarterback [autotag]Christopher Vizzina[/autotag] shared his list of top six schools that didn’t include the Gators. Vizzina’s decision to leave Florida off his list is significant because he was one of Napier’s top targets at the position next to five-star quarterback Arch Manning.

The good news for Florida is that it didn’t invest many resources into Vizzina. The Gators attempted to get him on campus, but they never accomplished that. However, the 247Sports composite ranked Vizzina as the 52nd overall player and as the seventh-best player at his position.

Napier’s quarterback board has become quite foggy after this weekend. Manning is Florida’s top target but once again it has not gotten him to the Swamp after it was reported that the Gators were added to his top list of schools that he is considering.

Stokes was most likely the backup option if Manning and Vizzina fell through because he hailed from nearby Jacksonville, Florida, and played at the same high school as [autotag]Tim Tebow[/autotag]. But the Gators and Napier never extended an offer despite how much they communicated with him.

Looking ahead, Florida will likely ramp up its efforts on five-star [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] and four-star [autotag]Dylan Lonergan[/autotag]. Both prospects have visited campus, even though Moore came with a group of other top recruits apart of the Football Hotbed tour. Lonergan looks like the most intriguing option because he wants to play baseball along with football at his future school, and Florida has a top program in each sport.

Penn State adds four-star QB to Class of 2023

Penn State got one of the nation’s top quarterback recruits in the Class of 2023

Penn State’s Class of 2023 added a four-star quarterback to its lineup heading into the weekend. [autotag]Marcus Stokes[/autotag] gave his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Friday, joining a recruiting class that is beefing up on quality offensive linemen and following a recruiting class that added two quarterbacks.

Stokes is also a nice pull out of the state of Florida, a state that is always full of good football talent. And offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is credited with being the lead recruiter in the effort to bring Stokes to Happy Valley.

Stokes gave his commitment a day after an unofficial visit was made to Penn State. The visit to Penn State came following a week of visits to Ole Miss, Indiana, and Cincinnati as well.

Florida offers another 4-star quarterback in 2023 recruiting class

Florida football offered four-star quarterback Eli Holstein out of Zachary, Louisiana, on Monday.

Florida football has passed out a handful of scholarship offers to quarterback prospects over the last two months. The latest one to receive one is four-star [autotag]Eli Holstein[/autotag] out of Zachary, Louisiana. Offensive coordinator [autotag]Rob Sale[/autotag] extended the good news to Holstein Monday.

Holstein is ranked as the 54th overall prospect and the eighth-best at his position, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He finished his junior season, completing 65% of his passes for 3,228 yards and throwing 30 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Holstein added 523 yards on the ground and 14 scores.

247Sports spoke to Holstein’s father, Scott Holstein. He said they are looking forward to getting to know Florida more and hope they can take a visit to the Swamp.

The Holsteins have some connections with the Gators coaching staff, too. Scott played with cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond at LSU. Off-the-field analyst Russ Calloway also recruited Eli for the Tigers.

He said Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Stanford, Oregon and Texas A&M are on him the hardest currently so far in his son’s recruitment. He’s also fresh off a visit to the Crimson Tide earlier this month.

It’ll be interesting to see what this means for the top of the Florida quarterback board. Coach Billy Napier had [autotag]Arch Manning[/autotag], [autotag]Christopher Vizzina[/autotag] and [autotag]Marcus Stokes[/autotag] toward the top of his list.

It probably means nothing and that the Gators are still doing their due diligence but it still sits in the back of my mind.

This highly-touted 4-star QB will make a trip to Florida in March

Four-star quarterback Marcus Stokes is set to visit Florida later this month.

Florida has extended scholarship offers to several quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle like Arch Manning, Dante Moore and Christopher Vizzina. One prospect that hopes to receive the green light soon is four-star quarterback Marcus Stokes from Nease High School in Jacksonville, Florida. The Gators have been evaluating him for the last month or so and are now set to host him later this month on the 26.

Nease High School should be familiar to most Gators fans because that’s where Florida great Tim Tebow played before he became a Heisman Trophy winner. Stokes said he doesn’t know much about the Orange and Blue except for what he sees on TV and that Tebow starred there. However, he has spoken to some prospects who have visited recently under new head coach Billy Napier.

“The Gators are really successful, and I have known a lot of people who have gone on visits there,” Stokes told Swamp247. “The people I talk to tell me how the new staff is really amazing. I talked to Treyaun Webb and he said they have a great staff there. He said the staff is great there, and that I would love it. I am really excited to get out there because it’s so close to home.”

Most of his conversations have been with offensive analyst Ryan O’Hara who he talks to every now and then. He told Stokes that he was impressed with his throwing from the All-America combine in Texas.

He said he’s most looking forward to seeing how the team practices on March 26. Stokes said he has trained with current Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson and wants to see what Napier’s offense is like.

So far, he has 11 scholarships to his name and said Penn State and Virginia Tech have done the best job building a relationship with him while mentioning Tennessee and Miami even though they haven’t offered yet. Florida hasn’t offered yet, but Stokes added it would likely be a game-changer for him.

Then looking toward a decision, he said he hasn’t put much thought into it and is letting the recruitment process play out.
