Bulls GM Marc Eversley has ‘every intention’ of resigning Zach LaVine

LaVine is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Zach LaVine has a career altering decision to make this offseason.

The two-time All-Star is set to become an unrestricted free agent and will have several suitors to attempt to sign him away from the Chicago Bulls.

Following the 2022 NBA draft on Thursday, Bulls GM Marc Eversley spoke to the media, which included his thoughts on LaVine’s pending free agency, stating that the team has ‘every intention’ to resigning LaVine.

“We’re prepared to do what it would take to bring Zach back,” Eversley said.

In exit interviews, LaVine spoke highly of his relationship with the front office and his love for Chicago and his teammates but also stated his excitement to partake in free agency for the first time.

Though in recent reports, LaVine is expected to return to the Bulls.

The Lakers sat at No. 2, and were fixated on UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball. They didn’t even bring Tatum in for a workout. The reasons for these decisions are painful to revisit for those who made them, and somewhat lost to history because the principals — Bryan Colangelo (Philadelphia) and Magic Johnson (Lakers) — are no longer in their roles. Tatum saw them as slights and used them as motivation. “The Lakers were my favorite team, and Kobe was my favorite player,” says Tatum, who wore a purple No. 24 wristband to honor Bryant in Boston’s win against the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. “So it was crazy that the Lakers had the second pick and I was so close to a dream come true. But it was just like they didn’t want anything to do with me at the time.” -via ESPN / June 8, 2022
Chicago Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball’s season ended early when he dealt with some knee issues which led to a meniscus surgery in late January. “Arturas and Billy really took the time …

“Arturas and Billy really took the time to get to know Zach LaVine, and knew that he wanted to win,” Reinsdorf told ESPN. “Zach had been on some bad teams, and just like it wasn’t Devin Booker’s fault in Phoenix for those years, it wasn’t Zach’s fault here. We needed to get him help. Billy, Arturas and (general manager) Marc Eversley spend a lot of time with our players. These aren’t assets, these are people. But especially with Zach, they took time to understand what he is all about. It was easy for people on the outside to say, “Oh, he’s just a scorer and he doesn’t care.’ But these knew better about Zach, because they spend time and get beyond the basketball with him.”

Two strong executives expected to be considered for the vacancy are Chicago Bulls general manager Marc Eversley and New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Both are basketball mavens who have been instrumental in building playoff-caliber teams, and each possesses vast relationships with players around the league.

Bulls general manager Marc Eversley to represent team at draft lottery

The Bulls have just a 20.3% chance of keeping their first-round pick this year.

Chicago Bulls general manager Marc Eversley will reportedly represent the organization at the NBA draft lottery on Tuesday, according to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.

The Bulls will be hoping Eversley can bring the organization some luck as they face low odds of keeping their first-round pick. They enter the lottery slotted eighth but will send their pick to the Orlando Magic if it lands outside of the top four.

Of course, Chicago traded its first-round pick this year to the Magic in the deal to acquire All-Star Nikola Vucevic. They have a 20.3% chance of keeping the pick, but will likely end up sending it to Orlando barring a miraculous jump up in the lottery.

The organization last won the No. 1 overall pick in 2008 when they drafted Derrick Rose. Since then, the highest they have selected was fourth when they drafted Patrick Williams from Florida State last year.

The NBA draft is scheduled to take place on July 29.

Bulls talking to several assistants

The Chicago Bulls were granted permission to speak with several assistants for the franchise’s head coaching job and interviews with candidates are well underway, sources told ESPN. No permission was necessary for former Brooklyn Nets coach Kenny Atkinson to interview, but new executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley are talking to several assistant coaches still involved in the playoffs, including Milwaukee’s Darvin Ham, Denver’s Wes Unseld Jr. and Miami’s Dan Craig, sources said.

K.C. Johnson: This, from @wojespn, echoes what I said on @mullyhaugh on @670TheScore yesterday and wrote on July 21. With the 20-21 calendar uncertain, the long play remains in effect. In meantime, AK has empowered Boylen, staff during evaluation process. Where are the Chicago Bulls on Jim Boylen’s future? “Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley are spending time evaluating and getting to know Boylen, and remain in no rush deciding on the coach’s future. They’re able to watch him in the gym with players, talk philosophy and learn about his staff. Because several potential head-coaching candidates among the assistant’s poll are coaching in the bubble for the foreseeable future, there’s even less rush to open up a search process now.”
