Lucas Ramirez, son of former MLB star Manny, signs with Tennessee

Manny Ramirez’s son Lucas Ramirez signed with Tennessee baseball over the weekend.

Tennessee has made an appearance in the College World Series in two of the last three years. The program is gearing up for another run with its most recent signing.

Lucas Ramirez, the son of former Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox star Manny Ramirez, signed with the Volunteers on Saturday, according to Talkin’ Baseball. He originally committed to the team in January.

Ramirez is an outfielder and first baseman who hit .304 with two home runs and 17 RBI as a junior, according to MaxPreps. He is graded by Perfect Game at 9.5, meaning the site views him as a potential pick in the first 10 rounds of the draft or a high-level college prospect.

The senior posted a picture in a Tennessee uniform to his Instagram account on Saturday:

Ramirez swings from the left side of the plate and has shown power despite only two home runs as a junior. Take a look at his swing in this walk-off home run in the 2023 World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) semifinals in July:

Tennessee will be looking for more of that. The Vols’ College World Series appearances in 2021 and 2023 sandwiched the 2022 season in which they won they were champions of the SEC regular season and SEC Tournament for the first time since 1995, according to the program website, in a dominant season that ended unexpectedly soon in the Knoxville Super Regional.

Fans crushed ex-MLB player Jeff Frye after he called out Manny Ramirez’s son for celebrating a HR

He REALLY claimed Manny Ramirez never admired home runs …

While it certainly seems like MLB has made progress to embrace the personality of its players, there will always be people out there who want baseball players to act like emotionless robots.

And oh man, former MLB player Jeff Frye went to some wild lengths to make that argument this week.

Manny Ramirez’s son, Lucas, had himself a weekend to remember at the plate in the 2023 World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) tournament in Georgia where he hit a walk-off home run to send his travel team to the championship game. For a high school player, it’s a huge moment. And you better believe that Lucas — a Tennessee commit — had every right to celebrate the walk-off shot.

Yet, Frye saw footage of Lucas rounding the bases and thought the home run celebration was worth blasting the young player over. On top of that, Frye — who is also an MLBPA agent — argued that Lucas’ father would never do that.

Again, Lucas’ father is Manny Ramirez. The same Manny Ramirez who has an entire montage of admiring home runs.

It’s one thing to have a problem with bat flips. It’s another to completely rewrite history while criticizing a youth baseball player. It was a massive home run for Lucas, and baseball needs more of that enthusiasm.

Fans honestly couldn’t believe that Frye managed to come up with such a terrible take.

The Baseball Hall of Fame remains one of the silliest things in all of sports

It remains hard to take this museum all too seriously.

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

Tuesday was the day of the year when the baseball people make an announcement about former players (or player) who were lucky enough to be voted into a museum in upstate New York called the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

It was also the time of year for lots of baseball fans to be reminded that the the voting process isn’t really one that should be taken too seriously and that the museum doesn’t mean as much to fans these days because of the list of amazing players who will never get the call to the Hall.

Scott Rolen was the only player voted in this year, as he got just over the threshold of 75 percent of the votes that it takes to make it. Rolen was a fantastic third baseman during his career and won a World Series with the Cardinals.  He was a 7-time All-Star in his 17 years and in his final five years he played 88, 40, 133, 65, and 92 games.

Does Rolen deserve to be a Hall of Famer? Sure. That’s not really my argument here, but I guess it does have some impact on what I’m going to say.

Here are two names from yesterday that didn’t get voted in – Manny Ramirez, and Alex Rodriguez. They once again join a group of other all-time greats like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens (who are no longer on the ballot) that will likely never get their named called and it’s why we shouldn’t take this Hall of Fame thing all that seriously.

Those guys listed above aren’t getting in because of their involvement with the steroid era, which was a pretty fun era of baseball but that’s besides the point. We all know the arguments about why they aren’t getting in and why the should get in.

Scott Rolen was a great player. Manny, A-Rod, Bonds, and Clemens were a whole lot better and have legacies that will never be forgotten.

We baseball fans know who the best players of all time were and we don’t need some museum to give the names on that list any type of validation.

Though it would give the place a lot more credibility.

Want to feel old? Here’s a video David Ortiz’s son driving in Manny Ramirez’s kid with an RBI single

Time flies!

Feels like just yesterday that we were watching David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez play for the Boston Red Sox and bring a World Series title to the city.

But it was just in 2016 that Ortiz played his final year. And Manny was being Manny in the majors up until 2011.

Still, yeah, this is going to make you feel old: There’s now footage of Ortiz’s son and Ramirez’s kid playing baseball together.

They’re on the Brockton Rox together in the Futures League and D’Angelo Ortiz drove in Manny Ramirez Jr. with a single. Everyone watching this had the exact same reaction:
