Josh Allen to be Madden 24 cover athlete

After much speculation, EA Sports made the cover athlete for Madden 24 official.

After rumors bandied about, EA Sports made it official by announcing Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the cover athlete for Madden 24. Allen took to social media saying it was a childhood dream come true.

The decision to put Allen on the cover shouldn’t be a surprising one. He has turned himself into one of the best and most popular quarterbacks in the National Football League. The inclusion of Allen with Bills Mafia is a great touch, as they are such a big part of the team and community.

There was speculation that Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson might grace the cover, but there is plenty of opportunity for that to happen in the future.

The only good thing about the new Madden 24 trailer is the ability to truck, then taunt, Kirk Cousins

It looks just like every other underwhelming Madden game. But you do get to make Kirk Cousins look like a doofus, so …

Josh Allen is the cover athlete for this year’s annual installment of EA’s Madden franchise. That’s a big deal for a rising young star who has helped turn the Buffalo Bills from perennial doormat to Super Bowl contender.

But it’s not the honor it once was, because the game itself has become yet another product of EA’s broken assembly line. Each year, the company pumps out a new game and extolls the virtues of all the changes its made. And each year the gameplay is roughly the same, the career and general manager modes underwhelm and, despite the hype, a bunch of us long for the days of the Sega Dreamcast and NFL2K.

Here’s the latest trailer for the Madden 24 gameplay which, per tradition, may or may not reflect the actual experience anyone has with the sticks in their hands.

I mean, great. Grand. It’s a Madden game. The rosters are updated. The graphics are a little better. There’s a bunch of basic gameplay that will, without fail, glitch horribly and eat up a full week of your Twitter or TikTok browsing. There’s —

Wait a minute. What’s this?

OK, you’ve got Kirk Cousins.

And he’s throwing an interception. Cool, cool.

Oh and then you, at least in theory, get to play as Micah Parsons and toss his Pizza Ranch-loving (expletive) into the turf?

AND THEN LECTURE HIM AFTER?!?!?!

OK, never mind. Maybe Madden is good again. I mean, probably not, but the trailer features the NFL’s favorite bread bowl of a quarterback being below average at football and summarily being punished for it. It can’t be all bad.

LOOK: Josh Allen picked as cover athlete for ‘Madden NFL 24’ video game

#Bills QB Josh Allen is the cover athlete on Madden 24 and that is very cool:

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the face of the NFL officially, at least in a video game sense. EA Sports and Allen announced that the QB was selected as the game’s cover athlete for the latest version in the game franchise.

“Madden NFL 24” has Allen on the front, as he becomes the first Bills player to ever hold that honor.

Check out the images of the cover shared on social media by Allen, who called it a “childhood dream,” and the trailer for the game shared by EA Sports below:

Madden 24 is reportedly a ‘make or break’ game for the franchise and that’s not surprising

This seems a bit overdue.

The Madden video game franchise is the only officially licensed NFL game series, meaning it carries a lot of influence in the gaming industry simply by existing. But that hold on the market might not have been the best thing for the game’s year-to-year quality, especially considering how often it’s released.

According to a report from Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw, the upcoming release of Madden 24, likely slated for its usual late-August window, will be “make or break” for the series. After an update file caused many players to lose their Franchise mode saves in late 2022, leadership at EA is apparently displeased with how similar matters have been handled. One way they’re trying to rectify the situation is by offering a 50 percent discount on the next edition of Madden for those who had save issues.

More from Insider Gaming:

“The discount for players who lost their franchise is only the beginning,” one close to the game’s development said. “EA has big plans for Madden 24 and the management of the game knows how big of a year it is. Not just for the game, but for their future in their positions.”

What “make or break” means here is a little unclear. Either way, this is undoubtedly significant news for one of the biggest video game franchises in history.
