Luis Palomino: ‘1,000 percent, I am the GOAT’ of bareknuckle boxing

Luis Palomino seeks to cement himself as the GOAT of bareknuckle boxing by becoming two-division champion at BKFC 26.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – It’s undeniable that longtime MMA fighter [autotag]Luis Palomino[/autotag] has found a calling in bareknuckle boxing.

The undefeated BKFC lightweight champion will attempt to become the first two-division champ in the history of the company Friday. Palomino moves up a division to challenge welterweight champion Elvin Brito in the BKFC 26 main event.

It’s an ambitious goal for Palomino, who seeks to leave no doubt he’s the greatest of all time in the sport.

“One thousand percent, I am the GOAT,” Palomino told MMA Junkie. “One thousand percent, and I get to prove it June 24, Friday night. I’m already considered by the organization as the No. 1 pound-for-pound, but taking this title and being the first two-weight division champion in bareknuckle history, that’s the stamp right there. I am the GOAT. I’m the best bare-knuckle fighter in the world today.”

Palomino will faces Brito for a second time. The two clashed in 2020 at BKFC 10, when Palomino got a unanimous decision win. Since then, Brito has gone on a four-fight wining streak that saw him capture the promotion’s welterweight belt earlier this year.

Palomino has seen improvement in Brito’s game, but still remains confident he’ll be victorious once again. Unlike many two-division champions in combat sports, Palomino is determined to defend both belts if successful Friday.

“The responsibility of defending the title in my head, it’s No. 1. I will defend the title. I’ll defend at 155, but I’ll come back at 165 and defend the belt there – or else you’re not a real champion.”

BKFC: KnuckleMania 2 results: Luis Palomino too fast, outstrikes Martin Brown to retain title

Luis Palomino continues to shine as the BKFC lightweight champion, making it six wins in a row after defeating Martin Brown.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – [autotag]Luis Palomino[/autotag] looked sharp as ever in his title defense on Saturday evening.

At BKFC: KnuckleMania 2, Palomino sought to defend his title against Martin Brown, and behind his speedy striking and slick defense, emerged victorious in the main event to keep his lightweight championship.

The first round saw a calculated approach from both fighters. There were a few intense exchanges that saw Brown touch the canvas twice, but not as a result of punches from Palomino. After slipping and falling to the ground after both men swung and missed, Martin also touched the canvas after a clinch got rough, and Palomino dumped him to the mat.

The intensity ramped up in the second round, but the defense of both fighters shined early as they caused each other to miss. However, towards the end of the frame, Palomino put together a crisp combination for the best moment of the round.

Brown looked to control the pace of the third round, but Palomino continued to be more effective. Towards the end of the round, a short right counter from Brown caused Palomino’s knee to hit the canvas as he charged in, but the moment was not ruled a knockdown by the referee.

Palomino worked behind a left jab in the fourth round as Brown stalked him around the circular BKFC ring. The speed of Palomino continued to cause issues for Brown, who just missed on a couple of big punches, although he found a home for a crisp left hand towards the end of the round.

The final round of the championship bout started off with a quick combination from Palomino, who was light on his feet as he moved around the ring. Brown looked to slow his opponent down by powering forward to initiate a clinch and look for punches on the inside. Palomino got back to sticking with the left hand and moving out of danger before Brown could answer with anything significant.

The judges were unanimous in their decision, seeing the fight for Palomino. One judge scored every round for the champ, while the other two only found one round to give to Brown.

Palomino’s victory marked his sixth-straight win in bareknuckle competition as the lightweight champion continues to shine under the BKFC banner.

‘This thing nearly got me’: Hospitalized Luis Palomino urges vaccinations as he fights COVID-19 Delta variant

MMA veteran and BKFC champion Luis Palomino is hospitalized, dealing with the harsh effects of the COVID-19 Delta variant.

The COVID-19 Delta variant has hospitalized a BKFC champion.

[autotag]Luis Palomino[/autotag], a fighter with 43 professional mixed martial arts bouts and bareknuckle boxing champion, is now in the hospital dealing with the harsh effects of the virus, including being unable to eat food for 12 days.

Palomino, 40, recently transitioned well into the bareknuckle boxing world. In just his second bout, he won the BKFC lightweight title and has gone undefeated through four fights with the promotion. His most recent outing was against Tyler Goodjohn at BKFC 18 on June 27, a fight he won by unanimous decision to defend his title for the second time.

Just days after a successful surprise proposal to fiancé Karen, Palomino finds himself fighting again, but this time in the hospital against the COVID-19 Delta variant.

Currently, he is in no condition to worry about his next contest as he’s battling through the Delta variant. On Wednesday, Palomino shared a video from his hospital bed via Instagram describing his current situation:

Fighting covid variant Delta

12 days no food, sips of water, massive headaches, body aches, fevers from day one still going today, shiver attacks, no sleeps longer then 2/3 hours, inflammation of the pancreas, diarrhea pure water just started to calm down with medication. Diabetes just popped up from all the steroids their pumping me with and took my first ever insulin shots.
The list goes on THIS IS NOT A JOKE GET VACCINATED ASAP.
I’m a mothaf*cking champion and this will not beat me. I will be back very soon, thank you all for your endless love and support. You give me strength thank you 🙏🏾 God bless you and yours 🙏🏾

“I spent the last five years of my life without getting sick by simply taking care of my body and my immune system,” Palomino said through labored breath. “After my engagement, I did a lot of celebrating, a lot of drinking, and I let my immune system drop. So, Delta (variant) caught me slipping.”

I just want to let you guys know, this thing is very serious. I was completely against the vaccine, except for the elders and kids that are young and still have a weak immune system. That, I was never against.”

“Now, I encourage you all to take it,” Palomino continued. “You’ve got the Pfizer FDA approved. As soon as I’m out of here, my entire family in my home, my fiancé, my son, and I, we will be taking it. At least it will keep you from dying. …This thing nearly got me.”

Palomino stated he was sick at home for 12 days before his fiancé forced him to go to the hospital, and is now starting to feel better, 15 days into his illness. Hopefully, his condition continues to improve.

Like the rest of the world, the combat sports realm has been turned upside down since the global pandemic began raging in 2020, causing multiple cancellations of fights and entire events. Not only have numerous fighters contracted the virus, but most importantly, lives have been lost. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of retired former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, lost his battle with COVID-19 in July 2020 and Texas coaching legend Saul Soliz passed away due to the virus earlier this month.

“Don’t play with this stuff, guys,” Palomino said.

“Get vaccinated.”
