BKFC 50 results: Lorenzo Hunt retains cruiserweight title in split vs. UFC veteran Chris Camozzi

Two-division champion Lorenzo Hunt emerged victorious against UFC veteran Chris Camozzi in the main event of BKFC 50 in Denver.

[autotag]Lorenzo Hunt[/autotag] continues his reign over two divisions in BKFC after defeating UFC veteran Chris Camozzi at BKFC 50.

In the main event at 1st Bank Center in Denver, Hunt (10-1 BKFC) put his cruiserweight title on the line against Camozzi (2-1 BKFC). The crowd wasn’t pleased with every moment of the fight, but when they traded, the two main eventers looked for knockout blows. After five rounds, Hunt was declared the winner by split decision as the judges issued scores of 48-47, 47-48 and 49-46.

The majority of the first was spent hand-fighting and finding the range. Hunt exploded with a hard right hand that got the action heated up, as Camozzi charged forward. In the clinch, a few short punches connected for Camozzi, but Hunt didn’t appear to be bothered.

The Denver crowd showed their displeasure with the lack of output in the second. Much like the opening round, most of the frame saw neither fighter commit to a punch. However, in the closing seconds, action heated up, led by Hunt who swung wild hooks until the bell.

Camozzi was able to get a hold of Hunt in the third, and they wrestled for position. After being separated by referee Dan Miragliotta, they went right back into the clinch, but this time they worked dirty boxing, exchanging a number of punches in close range. Hunt closed out the round with another combination to cap off the most intense round of the fight.

In Round 4, Camozzi stalked forward initially, but didn’t find room to land anything of significance while Hunt picked his spots to dart forward with looping punches. A few boos could be heard as the pace slowed from the previous round.

Hunt put the pressure on Camozzi early in the final round, but Miragliotta was busy breaking up clinches that stalled. Camozzi landed a hard right hand for the best punch of the round. Hunt appeared hurt, but he still came forward looking to land more until time expired.

The announcement of a split decision was made, and it was revealed Hunt earned two scorecards in his favor. He successfully defended his cruiserweight title (205 pounds) while also the champion of the BKFC light heavyweight division (185 pounds).

“Chris Camozzi actually has the career that I wanted,” Hunt said during his post-fight interview. “I was passed up by the UFC, I was passed up by the other organizations. Thank you to David Feldman and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships for making my dream come true. Thank you, Denver for having me.

“I am the best bareknuckle fighter in the world! I will die before I quit!”

Video: Lorenzo Hunt, Mike Richman brawl, destroy stage during KnuckleMania 3 press conference

All hell broke loose between Lorenzo Hunt, Mike Richman at a BKFC press conference.

[autotag]Lorenzo Hunt[/autotag] and [autotag]Mike Richman[/autotag] are already getting hands on each other before their BKFC championship bout.

The two got into a full-on brawl at Thursday’s pre-fight press conference promoting KnuckleMania 3. After a few verbal back-and-forths, Hunt and Richman got up from their seats, and went at each other.

BKFC present [autotag]David Feldman[/autotag] and the security present tried their best to stop the brawl, but they were still able to lock horns and trade a few strikes. Hunt and Richman even fell off stage, knocking down the dais behind them.

You can watch their full brawl in the video above.

Hunt and Richman are set to compete in a light heavyweight title unification bout. The contest will serve as the main event for BKFC KnuckleMania 3, which will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. on Feb. 17.

Hunt has been one of the most successful fighters in BKFC, winning titles across two different divisions. Hunt has picked up victories over notable names such as Hector Lombard, Joe Riggs and Quentin Henry.

On the other hand, Richman, a former Bellator featherweight and bantamweight fighter, has put together a 4-0 record since joining the BKFC roster. Richman won the BKFC interim light heavyweight title with a knockout win over Isaac Doolittle this past October. He also holds bareknuckle boxing wins over former MMA fighters David Rickels and Dakota Cochrane.

Video: Lorenzo Hunt bashes Joe Riggs in face with tomato at BKFC 24 ceremonial faceoffs

Joe Riggs was the victim of a weaponized, half-eaten tomato in Montana at BKFC ceremonial faceoffs.

Combat sports fans have often seen props, including food, at ceremonial faceoffs. The big fear by promotion operations staff and security usually is they’ll be turned into weapons, which they seldom, if ever, actually are.

At the BKFC 24 ceremonial faceoffs Thursday, however, that fear became a reality. A tomato prop weaponized as light heavyweight champion [autotag]Lorenzo Hunt[/autotag] bashed the half-eaten fruit into the grill of former UFC fighter and next title challenger [autotag]Joe Riggs[/autotag].

The two fighters were immediately separated before things escalated further. Unhappy as ever, Riggs got a verbal rebuttal in and called Hunt a “c*nt.” Meanwhile, Hunt found his stunt hilarious and cackled at Riggs from a separated distance before he played to the small crowd in attendance.

BKFC 24 takes place Friday at Pacific Steel and Recycling Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls, Mont. The main card streams on FITE pay-per-view after free prelims streamed to the official BKFC YouTube channel. Hunt vs. Riggs serves as the card’s main event.
