Former LSU Tiger Andrew Whitworth stepping up for those in need

Former LSU Tigers OT Andrew Whitworth is making a difference off the field.

Following Hurricane Ida’s path of destruction, former LSU Tigers have stepped up to help those in need. The Tigers single-season record holder for rushing yards in a season, Leonard Fournette was among those helping out. He pledged $100,000 to help out Louisiana, however, he isn’t the only one.

Andrew Whitworth came to the Tigers in 2001 and why the time he left Baton Rouge, he walked away as a national champion. He went onto the NFL as a second-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2006 draft. He spent 11 seasons in Cincinnati and now calls Los Angeles his NFL home after joining the team in 2017.

The West Monroe native is now helping those in need. Big Whit will donate $20,000 after each home game. He will also move Angelenos. The Rams announced the movement on their website on Friday.

After each home game at SoFi Stadium during the 2021 NFL season, Los Angeles Rams Tackle and team captain Andrew Whitworth will make a $20,000 donation to help repair homes in his home state of Louisiana and move Angelenos facing housing insecurity into homes as part of his “Big Whit Homes for LA Families” program, it was announced today.

“My family and I participated in United Way’s HomeWalk in 2019 and through that experience, our kids had an opportunity to learn more about the humanitarian crisis of housing insecurity,” said Whitworth. “The following Christmas, my wife Melissa and I gave the kids a chance to help decide how we as a family could make a difference, and the kids said they wanted to help people struggling with homelessness, which was so rewarding to hear as a parent. Being able to come together as a family and bless other families was incredibly meaningful and we continued the holiday initiative last year. This year, we are excited to make it a season-long initiative and broaden our impact in both our home state of Louisiana and our new home of Los Angeles.”

Report: Former LSU Tiger La’el Collins suspended five games

It appears the bad news keeps coming for La’el Collins, the former LSU Tiger has been suspended for the next five games.

The bad news keeps on coming for former LSU Tigers offensive tackle La’el Collins. He missed all of last season due to hip surgery and had seen his fair share of injury concerns throughout training camp and leading up to the season opener against Tampa Bay.

Now the current Dallas Cowboys right tackle will miss the next five games for the team due to violating league rules. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Collins was suspended due to violating the NFL’s policy and program on substances of abuse.

The Cowboys have concerns of depth on the offensive line already and it will be tested over the next five games of the season. Collins would be eligible to return in week seven when Dallas plays the Minnesota Vikings on Halloween night in Minneapolis.

Last year the team was forced into using a former undrafted free agent from Texas Tech, Terence Steele. It appears he will likely be the next man up. It might be the best time for a suspension to occur due to the Cowboys won’t play a team that made the playoffs a season ago in that stretch.

Dallas Cowboys release former LSU Tiger Rashard Robinson

Former LSU Tigers defensive back Rashard Robinson was released by the Dallas Cowboys per report from CBS Sports analyst Patrik Walker.

It appears as though former LSU Tigers cornerback Rashard Robinson will have to find yet another team to play in the NFL for 2021.

According to Patrik Walker of CBS Sports, the Dallas Cowboys released Rashard Robinson on Saturday. Rashard was a fourth-round draft selection of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2016 NFL draft. He spent 2016 and part of 2017 with the team before being traded to the New York Jets.

After being suspended for 10 games of the 2019 season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, he was released by the Jets on May 10, 2019. This coming off a four-game suspension in 2018. After being re-instated in March of 2020, he signed with the Cowboys on Sept. 15, 2020.

The NFL announced another suspension for the former Tiger on April 20, 2021, for two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Robinson is no stranger to disciplinary action as he was suspended multiple times as a member of the Tigers football program.

Robinson became expendable due to the amount of talent on the Cowboys roster after his latest suspension. In the 2020 NFL draft, they added former Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs and this past draft added Kentucky’s Kelvin Joseph.

It remains to be seen if Robinson will earn another shot in the NFL.

Former LSU Tigers receiver Justin Jefferson among NFL’s top 10 outside receivers

According to Touchdown Wire, former LSU Tigers WR Justin Jefferson proved to be one of the 10 best outside threats after one season.

During his two seasons as a starter for the LSU Tigers, Justin Jefferson was one of the more productive receivers in all of college football. During his junior campaign, he and Joe Burrow were quite a pair as they helped lead LSU to a national championship and a perfect 15-0 campaign in 2019. He finished third in the nation with 1,540 yards and second on the team to Ja’Marr Chase.

Heading into the NFL, he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings who traded away their top pass catcher in Stephon Diggs. No one could foresee just how much of an impact the rookie receiver would make.

According to Touchdown Wire’s Mark Schofield, Jefferson is the No. 8 outside receiver in the league. Quite an accomplishment after just one season catching passes from Kirk Cousins in Minneapolis.

In the run-up to the 2020 NFL draft, there were some who looked at LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson and questioned his value in the first round. Why? Because the LSU Tigers used him almost exclusively out of the slot in his final year in college, with tremendous results. But is a slot receiver worthy of a first round pick?

Absolutely, when he also has the ability to play on the outside, as some argued.

Jefferson had a huge rookie season, catching 88 passes for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns. Those receiving yards set a record for rookie WRs, and he was also named to a Pro Bowl for his efforts. As you’ll see in these videos, Jefferson is already among the game’s best thanks to his combination of footwork, releases and concentration. – Schofield

Heading into year two of his NFL career, Jefferson is looking to build upon the impressive rookie campaign. He joined fellow teammate Adam Thielan as two of the best outside receivers in the league. Can the duo bring Minnesota back to the top of the NFC North in 2021?
