Central Michigan at LSU odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Central Michigan at LSU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Central Michigan Chippewas (1-1) and LSU Tigers (1-1) meet Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rogue, La. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Central Michigan vs. LSU odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Chippewas opened the season on the road against an SEC team, falling 34-24 at Missouri. The Chips covered that game as 13.5-point underdogs, and then covered their home opener in Mount Pleasant by a 45-0 count against FCS Robert Morris. The Under hit in each of their outings.

The Tigers topped McNeese State and head coach Ed Orgeron’s son Cody in Baton Rouge last weekend, 34-7, although they failed to cover the 38.5-point spread. They also failed to cover as 1.5-point favorites in their opening game loss at UCLA. They have split the Over/Under 1-1.

Central Michigan at LSU odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

LSU 41, Central Michigan 17

Money line

LSU (-1000) will cost you 10 times your potential return. The Tigers have had plenty of issues on offense and were only able to muster up 34 points against their FCS visitors last week.

It’s always risky to bet this heavy of a favorite straight up, but even more so with as shaky as LSU has been.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

LSU -19.5 (-108) is the lean here, but don’t be surprised to see Central Michigan hang in this game for at least the first half.

The Chips have covered their first two games, including a trip to Columbia to battle Mizzou. While many might gravitate to the visitors because of their 2-0 ATS mark, and especially considering LSU’s 0-2 ATS record, the Tigers are going to piece it together soon or later.

This is a tough spot for Central, including a bout with the heat and humidity of Louisiana. I think LSU pulls away in the second half due to a number of factors, including speed, the heat and more.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

UNDER 60.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit play. The Under has connected in each of CMU’s two outings, while LSU has struggled offensively and hit the Under in its only home game.

LSU will keep Central Michigan mostly in check, and while I expect the Tigers to be better offensively this one will still be Under.

McNeese State at LSU odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s McNeese State at LSU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The McNeese State Cowboys (0-1) and LSU Tigers (0-1) meet Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the McNeese vs. LSU odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Cowboys lost last week’s opener against West Florida by a 42-36 count. It was a wild game in which McNeese outgained WFU 490-472 in total yardage, and both teams threw for at least 367 yards. McNeese was plus-1 in the turnover department.

You might recognize the name of McNeese QB Cody Orgeron. His dad, Ed Orgeron, is the head coach of LSU.

LSU will be in a foul mood after losing 38-27 on the road against UCLA in the opener. WR Kayshon Boutte was a bright spot with 9 receptions for 148 yards and all 3 of his team’s touchdowns.

McNeese State at LSU odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

LSU 55, McNeese 14

Money line

LSU (-100000) is going to bounce back in a big way after getting dropped at UCLA by the guys in powder blue, much to Orgeron’s dismay. However, you can’t lay this kind of lettuce for such a small return.

AVOID.

Against the spread

LSU -38.5 (-115) is going to rebound and take out its aggression on the visitors from Lake Charles. The Tigers will be able to roll up some big numbers against a team which lost to a Division II squad last weekend.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

OVER 67.5 (-110) will need a little help from Coach O’s son to help the Over cross the finish line. McNeese’s defense will allow the Tigers to ‘geaux’ for 50-plus, but the Cowboys need to make some things happen, too.

LSU’s defense won’t be as bad as last week but will allow McNeese to get into the end zone at least twice. Play the Over, but play it small.

LSU at UCLA odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s LSU at UCLA odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The LSU Tigers and UCLA Bruins meet Saturday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the LSU vs. UCLA odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

It will be the season opener for the Tigers, who were a disappointing 5-5 in last season’s COVID-19-shortened season, failing to fill big holes after the departure of QB Joe Burrow and others following the 2019 national championship season. Sophomore QB Max Johnson takes the full-time reins as starter with senior Myles Brennan waiting in the wings.

UCLA (1-0), which opened with a 44-10 rout of visiting Hawaii last Saturday, has no such quarterback issues as senior QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is back under center and looking to take another step forward.

He averaged 285.2 total yards per game last season, and had 130 yards and 1 touchdown against Hawaii but didn’t need to do much as tailbacks Zach Charbonnet, a Michigan transfer, and Brittain Brown combined for 184 rushing yards and 4 TD.

The Bruins lost four games in 2020, but all four losses were by six or fewer points.

LSU at UCLA odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 4:10 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: LSU -140  (bet $140 to win $100) | UCLA +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread (ATS): LSU -2.5 (-115) | UCLA +2.5 (-105)

LSU at UCLA odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

LSU 38, UCLA 31

Money line

LSU (-140) straight up is a solid bet, and won’t cost you much more than laying the points. Just take the Bayou Bengals to win straight up, and forget about the points.

Johnson is making the start under center, and there is some concern about how he’ll fare on the road in front of fans; however, WR Kayshon Boutte will help him make big plays, and the Tigers have a pair of true freshmen who could step right in to help, too. Watch wideouts Jack Bech and Deion Smith, who are poised for big things from the get-go.

Against the spread

LSU -2.5 (-115) is a decent play laying the points. Take the Tigers on the road in the Rose Bowl, especially as they should help to shut down Dorian-Thompson. CBs Derek Stingley Jr. and Eli Ricks are one of the best combinations in the SEC, and perhaps the nation.

Over/Under

OVER 64.5 (-115) is the lean, although I’d only make a small-unit play on that. LSU has the tools to put up good points, and the defense allowed 34.9 points per game and 7.3 yards per play in 2020.

So, the opportunity is there for the Bruins to do big things on offense and hang in the game, as long as they can navigate the tricky waters with that top-notch cornerback duo trying to shut them down.

Week 1 first look: LSU at UCLA odds and lines: Tigers, Bruins first-ever meeting

Previewing the college football Week 1 matchup between the LSU Tigers and UCLA Bruins, with odds, trends and head-to-head records.

The No. 13 LSU Tigers (0-0) open their season with an SEC-Pac-12 battle at the Rose Bowl against the host UCLA Bruins (1-0) Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the LSU vs. UCLA odds and lines; check back for our college football picks and predictions.

LSU’s 2020 campaign was a massive disappointment given the expectations set by head coach Ed Orgeron and the undefeated 2019 title-winning Tigers who’s quarterback, Joe Burrow, won the Heisman Trophy and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Last season was the first year LSU didn’t make a bowl game since 1999.

UCLA opened its 2021 season by steamrolling the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 44-10, covering the spread as 18-point home favorites and the Under cashed on the 68.5-point total. It was UCLA’s ground game that keyed the victory as the Bruins tallied 244 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Bruins junior RB Zach Charbonnet had 6 carries for 106 yards and 3 TD himself.

LSU at UCLA head-to-head

This is the first meeting between these two 100-plus-year-old football programs. ESPN ranks UCLA second in terms of returning production and LSU 30th.

Since 2018 (UCLA head coach Chip Kelly’s first year on the job), the Bruins are 1-6 overall and 2-5 ATS with a minus-11.4 margin of victory and minus-8.6 ATS margin in non-conference games. UCLA is led by senior QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson who has been the opening game starter since his freshman season.

Over that same time span, LSU is 11-0 overall and 7-4 ATS vs. non-conference foes, with a plus-27.5 margin of victory and plus-6.3 ATS margin. Former four-star recruit, sophomore QB Max Johnson, is the starter under center after holding that role for LSU’s final six games last season and having a team-best 8 touchdown to 1 interception.

March Madness: Michigan vs. LSU odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Michigan Wolverines vs. LSU Tigers odds and lines, with March Madness Round 2 picks and predictions.

The No. 1 seed Michigan Wolverines (21-4) take on the No. 8 seed LSU Tigers (19-9) Monday in an East Region second-round battle at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Michigan-LSU odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

The Wolverines breezed to an 82-66 win over Texas Southern in the first round, as they avoided the pitfalls which claimed some of their Big Ten brethren in the opening days of the NCAA Tournament. Still, this team is learning to play without senior F Isaiah Livers, who was lost during the Big Ten tourney due to a long-term foot injury. Michigan enters this game just 3-3 SU/2-4 ATS, and it’s on a 9-3 Under run.

Michigan vs. LSU: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

LSU 80, Michigan 77

Money line (ML)

Back LSU (+180) for the upset. The Tigers picked up an emphatic 76-61 win over St. Bonaventure in Saturday’s first round. Freshman G Cameron Thomas led the way with a game-high 27 points, while three Tigers – junior F Darius Days (13 points, 11 rebounds), sophomore G Aundre Hyatt (13 points, 10 rebounds) and sophomore F Trendon Watford (11 points, 11 rebounds) – recorded double-doubles.

The Wolverines have had trouble adjusting to life without Livers, similar to how Villanova has looked completely different without star Colin Gillespie. Taking a major player out of the starting five, especially this late in the season, is a major disruption. The Wolverines just haven’t been hitting on all gears lately. Michigan will join Illinois and Ohio State in the “Big Ten Loser’s Lounge.”

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

LSU +5 (-110) is a team which goes to the free-throw line frequently, as its big bodies create a lot of contact. The Tigers were ninth in the country in scoring (81.9 PPG), and they registered 447 total made free throws to rank eighth. On defense, the Tigers allow just 29.6% in opponents’ 3-point shooting, good for 16th in the land.

The Wolverines have taken on a completely differently complexion without Livers. Sure, they breezed past Texas Southern, but beating a SWAC team isn’t the same as facing an SEC team with a high-octane attack with size.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 148.5 (-110) is the slight lean based upon LSU’s offense. Michigan is no slouch at the offensive end, either, hitting for 76.5 PPG to rank 16th in the regular season. The big matchup will be Michigan’s 3-point shooting, which ranks 12th overall at 38.6%, against LSU’s 3-pointer defense. The Wolverines will still get theirs, win or lose, and we’ll have plenty of points.

Saint Bonaventure at LSU: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Saint Bonaventure 73, LSU 71

Money line

The model favors the Bonnies to win game, disagreeing with BetMGM’s money line favorite.

LSU vs. St. Bonaventure odds: Tigers favored in March Madness Round 1

Previewing Saturday’s St. Bonaventure Bonnies vs. LSU Tigers odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 9-seed St. Bonaventure Bonnies (16-4) tangle with the 8-seed LSU Tigers (18-9) in an NCAA East Region First Round Game on Saturday, March 20. The matinee contest (1:45 p.m. ET) will be held at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana and is airing on TNT.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup St. Bonaventure-LSU odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

St. Bonaventure plays a slow-down style of basketball, and the Bonnies figure prominently in defensive efficiency metrics. SBU swept the regular-season and tournament titles in Atlantic 10 play.

In their last seven games, the Bonnies are 6-1 overall and they’ve allowed just 54.9 points per game on a 38.7% mark from the floor over that stretch.

SBU is 4-0 straight-up and 4-0 against the spread this season when playing on a neutral floor. Over the last two seasons, the Bonnies are 7-0 SU and 7-0 ATS in such games.

The Tigers placed third in the SEC regular-season standings and then won a pair of games in the SEC Tournament. LSU enters the national brackets having won four of its last five games. The Baton Rouge Bengals have scored 82.1 points per game (second in the SEC).

LSU plays a fast style of ball, but its offense is also diverse and buoyed by strong shooting percentages from the paint, the perimeter, and the foul line. Notably, the Tigers went 39.4% from three in SEC tourney games against Alabama and Arkansas.

Louisiana State’s top player is freshman G Cameron Thomas. Thomas is the SEC’s leading scorer, at 22.6 PPG. He gets to the line frequently and is an 88.0% free-throw shooter.

Alabama is No. 7 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

LSU at Alabama: Three things to know

  1. LSU (82.9 points per game) and Alabama (79.9 PPG) rank second and third, respectively, in SEC scoring. Beginning with a 105-75 loss to the Crimson Tide Jan. 19, the Tigers have shot just 41.2% from the floor in their last four games while averaging nearly 10 fewer points than their season average. LSU has gone 1-3 in that stretch.
  2. Alabama lost a 66-61 in a non-conference game at Oklahoma Saturday. The loss snapped a 10-game win streak for the Tide. UA was a minus-4 in turnover margin after being on the plus side of the ledger in six of its previous seven games. Alabama has forced an impressive 15 turnovers per game for the season.
  3. Both sides have a key injury. LSU is without F Darius Days (12.1 points, 7.9 rebounds per game). Alabama is without F Jordan Bruner (7.8, 5.3). The 6-foot-10 Bruner has also logged 1.2 blocks per game and is a force in Alabama’s interior defensive scheme.

LSU at Alabama: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Alabama 85, LSU 73

Money line (ML)

Look for Alabama to be on the warpath after its loss to Oklahoma. The factor most likely to be overlooked in the Tide’s advantage here is their defense. The turnover transition game is a monster plus for ‘Bama and a big minus for LSU.

Still, the price here offers no value: PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The favorite is 19-6-1 over the last 26 games in this ancient SEC series and the favorite for this one is a solid play to cover by double digits. BACK THE CRIMSON TIDE -8.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Various analytic measures peg both LSU and Alabama as two of the higher-tempo teams in NCAA-I. ‘Bama, in fact, figures as a top-20 unit in possessions per game.

The lofty possession numbers on both sides were logged in non-conference play. Those possession numbers, along with the Tide’s 72.8% effective field-goal rate in the 105-75 score Jan. 19, are overbaked into tonight’s number. BACK THE UNDER 163.5 (-110).
