The LSU Tigers dropped to 17-9 on the season and 1-6 in SEC play after a 13-1 loss to Vanderbilt in Baton Rouge on Thursday.

The No. 2 Commodores jumped on LSU right-hander Landon Marceaux in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to increase their lead to 5-0. Vanderbilt followed that inning with another four-run inning, and the game was suddenly 9-0.

Marceaux would depart in the sixth inning after giving up nine hits and nine runs — eight of which were earned — in 5.1 innings. He was charged with the loss and fell to 2-3 on the season.

LSU used three pitchers in the game, allowing a combined 17 hits, four walks and three wild pitches.

The Tigers scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman right fielder Dylan Crews singled to drive in first baseman Tre Morgan.

After the game, LSU coach Paul Mainieri was dejected.

“It certainly was a disappointing night; Vanderbilt has a great ball club, and they took advantage of every opportunity that we gave them,” said Mainieri.

“We take a lot of pride in wearing the LSU uniform and in representing the great legacy of this program in the best way possible, so we’re going to come out tomorrow and give it everything we have to compete at a high level.”

The Tigers host the Commodores again on Friday in game two of the series. LSU faces Vanderbilt sophomore right-hander Jack Leiter, one of the top pitchers in all of college baseball.

The LSU Tigers dropped both games to the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday to fall to 16-8 on the season and 1-5 in SEC play.

The day began early as the two teams picked up Saturday’s game that was suspended due to weather, with LSU leading 8-7 in the top of the ninth inning.

The first game went into extra innings when Tennessee center fielder Drew Gilbert homered to right field to give the Volunteers a 9-8 victory. Gilbert also tied the game in the ninth inning when he doubled to right field, sending the game into extra innings.

The loss erased a terrific performance from freshman first baseman Tre Morgan, who went five of six at the plate with one home run, three runs scored and two RBI.

Senior right-hander Devin Fontenot took the loss for the Tigers, falling to 1-1 on the season.

In the second game, Tennessee won, 3-2, to preserve a three-game sweep over the Tigers.

LSU starting pitcher AJ Labas was outstanding, limited the Volunteers to two runs over his seven innings of work.

Garrett Edwards took the loss for LSU after he allowed the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

LSU coach Paul Mainieri discussed the disappointing weekend for his team.

“It was a tough weekend, obviously, and I really hurt for our kids,” Mainieri said. “They played their hearts out the entire weekend and just came up short. We were just one at-bat or one pitch away from having a successful weekend.”

The Tigers return to Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday, where they will host South Alabama.

For the first time this season, the LSU Tigers’ baseball team is on a losing streak.

LSU dropped its second consecutive game to Mississippi State on Saturday at Alex Box Stadium, 3-0. In the two games against the Bulldogs this weekend, the Tigers have scored just one run.

After a red-hot start to the season, LSU’s hitters have gone ice cold. Mississippi State had three pitchers combine to hold the Tigers to just five hits on Saturday.

After the game, LSU coach Paul Mainieri credited the Bulldogs’ pitching staff for shutting his team’s offense down.

“Mississippi State has a great pitching staff, and I give them a lot of credit, but we’ve got to find a way to generate some offense,” Mainieri said.

“Kids come to LSU because they want to challenge themselves against the best. If you want to play in the big leagues someday, you’ve got to rise up and hit this kind of pitching. It’s hard, but we’ve got to find a way to hit against them.”

Junior right-hander Landon Marceaux got the start for the Tigers and was outstanding. Marceaux went seven innings, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out three batters. The only run he allowed was unearned.

Mississippi State scored its final two runs off LSU’s bullpen in the eighth and ninth innings.

The loss drops LSU to 15-5 on the season and 0-2 in SEC play.

The final game of this series is on Sunday at Alex Box Stadium as the Tigers look to avoid a sweep.

In the top of the ninth inning, UTSA first baseman Griffin Paxton doubled to left center, scoring shortstop Joshua Lamb to tie the game at 4-4.

UTSA forced the game into extra innings when LSU went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

It appeared the Roadrunners were going to win the game in the top of the 10th inning when pinch-hitter Austin Ochoa belted a two-run home run to give UTSA its first lead. The Roadrunners would add one more run for a 7-4 lead.

LSU answered in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore third baseman Cade Doughty blasted a three-run home run to tie the game yet again.

UTSA would go on top yet again, scoring two runs in the 12th inning. On cue, LSU answered in the bottom of the 12th when left fielder Gavin Dugas smashed a two-run home run over the left-field wall to tie the game at 9-9.

After UTSA didn’t score in the top of the 13th, LSU had one out in the bottom of the 12th when freshman Jordan Thompson blasted a solo home run to give LSU the thrilling 10-9 victory.

Doughty finished the game two of six at the plate, with two home runs and six RBI.

The LSU Tigers dropped their first series of the season on Sunday as they fell to Oral Roberts, 3-1.

LSU led 1-0 until the top of the 8th inning when the Golden Eagles’ third baseman Adam Oviedo lined a two-out single through the infield. Right fielder Caleb Denny followed up with a double to plate Oviedo.

However, on Denny’s double, a pair of LSU throwing errors by second baseman Zach Arnold and pitcher Will Hellmers allowed Denny to also scored and gave Oral Roberts the lead.

Oral Roberts would score again in the ninth inning when second baseman Ryan Cash drove in the game’s final run.

Hellmers suffered the loss after giving up two runs, one of which was earned in two-thirds of an inning of work.

The Tigers wasted a stellar start from right-hander AJ Labas, who pitched six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out six Golden Eagles.

After the game, LSU coach Paul Mainieri reflected on the loss.
