Louisville at Duke odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Louisville at Duke odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Louisville Cardinals (5-5, 3-4 ACC) visit the Duke Blue Devils (3-7, 0-6) Thursday at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Louisville vs. Duke odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Cardinals punished Syracuse 41-3 last week at home, leveling up at 5-5, and putting Louisville in position for bowl eligibility. A win is likely a lot more attainable this week than in an upcoming rivalry game Nov. 27 against Kentucky.

The Blue Devils opened the season 3-1 SU/ATS, but Duke has dropped six in a row while going 1-5 ATS. Duke is averaging just 14.5 PPG during the six-game skid while allowing 45 or more points in four consecutive outings.

Louisville at Duke odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Louisville 47, Duke 17

Money line

Louisville (-1100) will cost you 11 times your potential return, or a profit of just $9.09 on a $100 bet. That’s just too risky, no matter how likely a win looks.

PASS.

Against the spread

LOUISVILLE -20.5 (-110) is laying a pretty healthy number for a .500 team, but that’s how bad Duke has been during its six-game skid.

The Blue Devils are no longer eligible for a bowl, and look like they have thrown in the towel. To make matters worse, Duke QB Gunnar Holmberg (ribs) is uncertain to play due to a rib injury. Holmberg has been practicing, but if he can’t go then QBs Riley Leonard and Jordan Moore would likely both see time under center.

Over/Under

The OVER 60.5 (-112) is worth a small-unit play. Louisville should be able to add to the woes of the Duke defense, which has coughed up at least 45 points in four straight outings. The Blue Devils rank 129th in the FBS in both total yards allowed (500.1) and passing yards (304.8) per game, while yielding 36.8 PPG overall. QB Malik Cunningham and the Cards should be able to at least get into the 40s, if not higher.

The Louisville Cardinals (12-5 overall, 7-4 ACC) visit the Duke Blue Devils (11-8, 9-6) in a Saturday evening (6 p.m. ET) contest at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. Below, we analyze the Louisville-Duke odds and lines, with NCAA college basketball picks and predictions.

  • Money line: Louisville +200 (bet $100 to win $200) | Duke -250 (bet $250 to win $100)

  • Over/Under: 142.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Louisville at Duke: Three things to know

  1. Duke has been on the upswing in recent weeks. Since losing, 70-65, at Louisville Jan. 23, Duke is 6-3, and its three losses were by a combined 10 points. DU heads into Saturday’s game on a four-game win streak. Over that quartet of victories, the Devils have shot a robust 44.2% from 3-point range and 55.8% overall.
  2. For Louisville, the Jan. 23 win against Duke came amid a spate of setbacks, both on the floor and in getting through the team’s schedule. The Cardinals have played just three games this month, and they are 3-4 since Jan. 16.
  3. The Cards’ second-leading scorer and assist man, G David Johnson is tabbed as questionable (undisclosed) for Saturday’s game. Johnson and his 12.7 PPG were out of the lineup in a Tuesday win over Notre Dame. Louisville also has a couple other injuries further down the rotation chart.

Louisville at Duke: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Duke 76, Louisville 68

Money line (ML)

The UL defense, allowing 65.8 points per game, ranks fourth in the ACC. But Duke has all the momentum on its side. The Devils are at their best against slower-tempo teams, and the Cardinals are a bottom-third bunch in that category. Look for DU to leverage good looks inside and put forth a strong effort in this contest on home hardwood.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Cardinals are 0-5 ATS in their last five games as a road underdog. Over the last eight games of this series, the home team is 5-2-1 ATS.

Look for a youthful-and-coming-together Duke five to get this one into three-possession territory in a home-court revenge win.

BACK THE BLUE DEVILS -5.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Respect the well-constructed total here: PASS.
