Sun Belt Championship Game: Marshall at Louisiana odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Marshall at Louisiana odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Marshall Thundering Herd (9-3, 7-1 Sun Belt) and Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (10-2, 7-1) meet Saturday for the Sun Belt Conference Championship Game. Kickoff from Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Marshall vs. Louisiana odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Marshall is making its first appearance in the Sun Belt title game after just moving to the conference in 2022. Louisiana has been selected 5 times, going 1-2 in the previous 3 games played. It was to play in 2020 against Coastal Carolina, but that game was wiped out due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Louisiana’s lone title game victory came in 2021 against Appalachian State in a home game, winning as a 2.5-point underdog with the Under (52.5) hitting. Ironically, the Ragin’ Cajuns would go on to face the Thundering Herd in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 18, 2021, winning 36-21 as a 4-point favorite while the Over (54.5) cashed.

These teams have met just once in the regular season, with Louisiana going to Huntington and winning 23-13 as a 10-point underdog in October 2022 as the Under (45.5) hit. This will be their first meeting in Lafayette.

Marshall capped off the season with 6 straight wins and 4 consecutive covers. It was an impressive 10-1-1 against the spread (ATS) this season, while splitting the Over-Under 6-6.

Louisiana suffered a 24-22 loss to South Alabama at home on Nov. 16, its only blemish since a 41-33 home setback vs. Tulane Sept. 21. The Cajuns were 5-1 ATS in the final 6 games, and the Over cashed in 3 of the final 4 outings.

Marshall at Louisiana picks and predictions

Prediction

Louisiana 36, Marshall 31

Moneyline

Louisiana (-225) is on the expensive side, costing more than 2 times the potential return. That’s quite a bit of risk for a standalone wager, even if the game is being played on its home turf.

If you were to toss this into a multi-leg parlay, it can be excused, but it is too expensive betting the Cajuns straight up.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread

BACK MARSHALL +5.5 (-105) lightly as this should be a very good and close game.

Marshall is 10-1-1 ATS this season, so it’s hard to go against that. The Thundering Herd went 5-0-1 ATS on the road this season, too, with covers at No. 8 Ohio State and Virginia Tech. It’s only non-cover came against Louisiana-Monroe at home Nov. 2.

Louisiana should still be able to get the job done at home. The Ragin’ Cajuns went 4-2 straight up at home this season but were just 2-4 ATS in those contests.

Over/Under

OVER 58.5 (-110) is a strong play in this Sun Belt title game as both of these teams can move the ball.

Louisiana QB Ben Wooldridge accounted for 22 total touchdowns — 17 passing, 5 rushing. The Ragin’ Cajuns were good for 446.3 total yards per game, and 35.6 PPG. Defensively, it is just so-so, especially against the run.

Marshall QB Braylon Braxton is similar to Wooldridge, throwing for 17 TDs and running in for 4. The Herd rolled up 200.4 rushing yards per game, and they’ll look to take advantage of the Cajuns mediocre run defense. Defensively, though, Marshall allowed 388.0 total yards and 189.3 rushing yards per game.

South Alabama at Louisiana odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s South Alabama at Louisiana odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The South Alabama Jaguars (4-5, 3-2 Sun Belt) and Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (8-1, 5-0) tussle in a Saturday night in Lafayette. The opening kickoff will be at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the South Alabama vs. Louisiana odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

South Alabama heads into this contest off a bye week. The Jaguars last played Nov. 2 when they logged a 34-30 loss as a 6-point favorite against Georgia Southern. USA was a minus-2 in turnovers and lost the game despite outgaining the Eagles 458 yards to 337.

Louisiana is 6-0 straight up and 4-2 against the spread (3-0 ATS since Oct. 19) over its last 6 games. Last week, the Cajuns cruised to a 55-14 triumph — easily covering a -14 — against Arkansas State. ULL leads the Sun Belt in offense (456.2 yards per game) and is second in defense (335.4 yards per game).

South Alabama at Louisiana picks and predictions

Prediction

Louisiana 34, South Alabama 24

Moneyline

Lots of juice. Little interest. No profit margin. PASS.

Against the spread

USA is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 road games. The Jaguars are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 visits to Cajun Field.

Louisiana defeated South Alabama 33-20 last season, covering as an 11.5-point road favorite. The Cajuns benefited from 5 takeaways in that game. The 2024 Jaguars have been responsible with the football (just 6 giveaways), but USA could be without its game-manager QB Gio Lopez, who is questionable with a concussion.

ULL is on a roll and has especially been in firm control of its games played on home turf. The Cajuns are a solid play to close this one out in 2-score territory.

TAKE LOUISIANA -7 (-105).

Over/Under

The Under has cashed in 4 straight series meetings and is 4-1 in South Alabama’s last 5 road tilts.

ULL’s pass defense has been significantly better at home, allowing just 161.7 yards per game (21st FBS).

Still, overall peg this total as being a well-made one. Consider a partial-unit play on a slight UNDER 59.5 (-105) lean.

Louisiana at Houston odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Louisiana at Houston odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (1-1) and the No. 10 Houston Cougars (1-1) meet Wednesday at Fertitta Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Louisiana vs. Houston odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Ragin’ Cajuns were tripped up 70-66 in the opener against the Kent State Golden Flashes as a 1.5-point underdog while the Under (144.5) cashed. Louisiana bounced back with an 82-65 win over Texas-Dallas, a lower-level team, in a game with no spread or total.

The Cougars spanked the Jackson State Tigers 97-40 in the opener as a 36-point favorite. Houston lost 74-69 Saturday to the No. 4 Auburn Tigers on a neutral floor as a 5.5-point favorite while the Over (141.5) cashed for a second straight outing. Houston had 5 players go for double digits against Auburn, including 13 points from L.J. Cryer, although he was just 5-of-14.

Louisiana at Houston picks and predictions

Prediction

Houston 84, Louisiana 53

Moneyline

Houston (-50000) will cost you 500 times your potential return. Yes, that’s risking $500 for $1 in profit. We don’t need to go on about how bad of an idea that is.

AVOID.

Against the spread

Back HOUSTON -28.5 (-118) laying the big points. The Cougars routed Jackson State with a big number in the opener, and it should be able to push past the Ragin’ Cajuns’ by blanketing Louisiana +28.5 (-105) with a suffocating defense on Houston’s home floor.

Louisiana struggled to get the job done at the offensive end against Kent State in a loss, and that’s a MAC team, not a top-10 national title contender. This one is about to get ugly.

Over/Under

UNDER 138.5 (-115) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Cajuns are going to have trouble solving Houston’s defense, but the concern is if the Cougars are able to roll up big numbers at home against Louisiana. It won’t take much for UH to get this one into the Over column, so be careful.

The 13th-seeded Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (26-7) face the 4th-seeded Tennessee Volunteers (23-10) Thursday in a 1st Round East Region game in the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off from Amway Center in Orlando is scheduled for approximately 9:40 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Louisiana vs. Tennessee odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Ragin’ Cajuns used defense to go 3-for-3 in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with victories over Georgia Southern (67-49), Texas State (64-58) and South Alabama (71-66). They were favored against all 3 games and went 2-1 against the spread (ATS) with an 3-0 Under record. They covered 9.5 points against Georgia Southern and 1.5 points in the title game vs. South Alabama, and they were 7-point favorites in the 6-point win vs. Texas State.

Louisiana lost both of its regular-season games against teams in the NCAA Tournament field, falling 76-64 at Drake in two days after Thanksgiving and losing 100-72 at Texas Dec. 21. The Ragin’ Cajuns were 0-2 ATS in those outings — getting 8.5 points vs. Drake and 18 vs. Texas — while splitting the Over-Under.

Tennessee has the much more impressive resume, although it sputtered down the stretch a bit. The Vols were 5-7 straight-up (SU) across the past 12 games, while going a dismal 4-8 ATS during the span. However, wins over NCAA Tournament teams like No. 1 overall seed Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi State (twice) and USC were more than enough to earn a high seed.

[afflinkbutton text=”Watch Tennessee vs. Louisiana” link=”https://www.fubo.tv/welcome?irad=343747&irmp=1205322&subId1=SBW&subId2=March%20Madness&subId3=odds%20post%20HTW%20buttons”]

The Vols were upset by the Missouri Tigers in the SEC quarterfinals, falling 79-71 as 5.5-point favorites. However, Mizzou was seeded 4th, one spot ahead of 5th-seeded Tennessee.

Louisiana vs. Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 74, Louisiana 60

Tennessee (-600) will cost 6 times your potential return, and that’s just way too expensive for a singular wager. Even including the Vols as part of a multi-team parlay would absorb all of the value out of your ticket.

AVOID.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread

TENNESSEE -10.5 (-108) is the lean. Louisiana failed to win or cover in a pair of games during the regular season against NCAA Tournament-bound teams.

ULL is going to have a very, very difficult time against a Tennessee defense that ranks 3rd in the country by allowing just 58.0 points per game. That stingy defense limited teams to a 36.9% field-goal percentage (ranks 2nd behind Houston’s 36.4%) and a nation’s best 26.2% defensive 3-point percentage.

Tennessee comes with some risk as it is just 1-6 ATS in the past 7 NCAA Tournament games. However, more importantly, in more recent times, the Vols are 14-6-1 ATS in the past 21 games following a straight-up loss, and 19-9 ATS in the past 28 after a non-cover.

Over/Under

UNDER 135.5 (-108) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at best.

The Under has cashed in 4 straight games for Louisiana, and is also 4-0 in the Cajuns’ past 4 NCAA Tournament appearances. In addition, the Under is 4-1 in their previous 5 neutral-site contests. That should continue against Tennessee’s stout defense.

Sun Belt Conference Tournament: South Alabama vs. Louisiana odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s South Alabama vs. Louisiana Sun Belt Conference Tournament odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 8th-seeded South Alabama Jaguars (19-15) and No. 2 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (25-7) meet Monday in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship Game. Tip at Pensacola Bay Center is at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the South Alabama vs. Louisiana odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

South Alabama went just 9-9 in circuit play, buts its losses came early. Since Jan. 28, the Jaguars are 11-2 and own a 13.9-point average margin of victory. USA has advanced with 3 relatively easy games in this tournament, holding its opponents to a 38.3% field-goal percentage.

Louisiana went 15-3 over its 18 SBC games behind an offense cranking out frees and threes. The Cajuns logged the 2nd-best free-throw rate in the league while shooting a robust 36.2% from beyond the arc. ULL is looking for a 3-game sweep of the Jaguars: the Cajuns beat them 79-76 Jan. 14 and 74-64 Feb. 24.

Against the spread

The last 3-4 weeks say South Alabama, but the expectations based on regression in shooting percentages say Louisiana.

PASS.

Over/Under

The Over is 3-0-1 in USA’s last 4 neutral-site games. The Jaguars have been a much better shooting squad over the last month and a half as their free-throw rate and 3-point shooting accuracy have been on the rise.

ULL excels in getting those 1s and 3s. The Cajuns’ defense is likely being overrated by many with too much of a recency bias.

The season schedules for both teams are heavily tilting toward stronger defenses played.

Independence Bowl: Louisiana vs. Houston odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Louisiana vs. Houston Independence Bowl odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (6-6) and Houston Cougars (7-5) meet in the Independence Bowl Friday at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Louisiana vs. Houston odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Ragin’ Cajuns whipped Texas State 41-13 in San Marcos as 5.5-point favorites to close out the regular season, attaining bowl eligibility in grand style. Still, Louisiana is just 2-3 SU/ATS in the final 5 games.

Louisiana averaged 27.0 PPG on offense this season, a transition year after  coach Billy Napier departed for Florida, turning the keys over to Michael Desormeaux. The defense was strong, allowing just 22.8 PPG to rank 38th in the country.

Houston last played on Nov. 26, losing to Tulsa at home 37-30 as 13-point favorites. The offense did its part, scoring 30 or more points for the 7th consecutive game, and 11th time in 12 outings.

The Cougars defense has been the Achilles’ heel of the team, allowing 430.0 total yards per game (ranked 110th), 285.8 passing YPG (126th) and 33.5 PPG (118th).

Louisiana vs. Houston picks and predictions

Prediction

Houston 34, Louisiana 31

Moneyline

Houston will cost you more than 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s way too risky for a team with such an awful defense. The Cougars have a solid offense with QB Clayton Tune, but no lead is ever safe with this D.

PASS.

Against the spread

LOUISIANA +7 (-109) is worth playing despite the fact QB Ben Wooldridge (lower body) is sidelined due to an injury. Still, backups Chandler Fields and Zeon Chriss proved to be more than capable, helping put up 41 on Texas State in the finale.

Houston -7 (-111) is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 games, while going just 2-5 ATS in the last 7 neutral-site battles.

Over/Under

OVER 57 (-108) is easily the best play on the board here.

There is concern, as Wooldridge is out. But even with a combination of Fields and Chriss, the Cajuns should be able to move the ball early and often on the struggling Cougars defense.

The Over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 neutral-site games for Louisiana, while going 6-0 in the last 6 games after a straight-up win.

The Over finished on a 6-1 run for Houston, while going 4-0 in the last 4 non-conference tilts, too.

Louisiana at Florida State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Louisiana at Florida State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (5-5) meet the No. 20 Florida State Seminoles (7-3) Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ESPN3). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Louisiana vs. Florida State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Ragin’ Cajuns need to win 1 of their final 2 games to secure bowl eligibility. Louisiana won 36-17 last week against Georgia Southern on Nov. 10, as it snapped a 2-game losing and non-cover skid. The Under has cashed in 5 of the past 7 games overall.

The Seminoles — ranked No. 19 in the College Football Playoff rankings — have scored 38 or more points in 3 straight outings, and are is outscoring the opposition 83-6 in the past 2 games with wins at Miami and Syracuse. FSU has covered 7 of its last 9 games.

Louisiana at Florida State picks and predictions

Prediction

Florida State 41, Louisiana 10

Moneyline

Florida State (-2500) will cost you 25 times your potential return, or, in other words, a $100 bet will net you just $4 of profit. Even with a multi-team parlay, there is no value in playing the Seminoles.

PASS.

Against the spread

FLORIDA STATE -24 (-114) is a strong play at home as the Seminoles are finally starting to show some signs of life. In fact, FSU beginning to resemble the form which made it a national title contender decades ago.

That ship sailed this season with 3 straight losses from Oct. 1-15, but the Seminoles have covered 3 in a row, and 7 of the past 9 games overall, and they’ll do it again here.

Over/Under

UNDER 52 (-110) is worth playing lightly here.

The Under has cashed in 5 of the past 7 games overall for Louisiana while going 11-4 in the past 15 games in November dating back to last season. The Under is also 4-1 in the past 5 games against winning teams, too.

FSU has allowed a total of just 6 points in the past 2 games, and it remains to be seen if Louisiana will be able to do much more than Syracuse or Miami. The Under is 10-4 in the past 14 games dating back to last season while hitting in each of the past 7 in November.

Georgia Southern at Louisiana odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Georgia Southern at Louisiana odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Georgia Southern Eagles (5-4, 2-3 Sun Belt) visit the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (4-5, 2-4) for a Thursday night conference battle in Lafayette. Kickoff at Cajun Field is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Georgia Southern vs. Louisiana odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Georgia Southern has played in 3 consecutive 1-score games. The most recent of those was a 38-31 loss to South Alabama Saturday. The setback for the Eagles — a 3.5-point underdog — came after a bye week and wins of 28-23 over Old Dominion and 45-38 over James Madison. The Sun Belt’s top offense (480.2 total yards per game) was held to a season-low 366 yards in the loss to South Alabama.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are also coming off a 1-score setback. Louisiana was undone by 3.5-point favorite Troy 23-17 Saturday. UL coughed up a 17-point lead in losing its 2nd straight game.

Georgia Southern at Louisiana picks and predictions

Prediction

Georgia Southern 38, Louisiana 34

Moneyline

Respecting the close-game angle to this contest and the spread in general. Going to PASS here, but will double back to see if a Georgia Southern +155 becomes available. The Eagles passing advantage makes them a solid side, just not 1 with leverage at current pricing.

Against the spread

AVOID. See above.

Over/Under

Louisiana likes to run the ball. Analytics call Georgia Southern’s defense against the run into question perhaps even more than its 224.6 yards per game allowed (127th FBS). And the Eagles allow a few too many big plays against the run.

Likewise, UL allows too many explosive plays through the air. Enter the Eagles passing game, which cranks out 331.4 yards per contest (4th).

On offense, the Eagles have been quite good in the red zone; the Cajuns have been solid overall and improving in that area in recent weeks. Louisiana’s red-zone defense has left much to be desired.

On a good-weather night in central Louisiana, expect some back-and-forth upward spiral in a scoring exchange.

BACK THE OVER 61.5 (-110).
