United States Congress wants to preserve and maintain iconic American stadiums

The Los Angeles Coliseum is one of at least 18 stadiums Congress is trying to protect.

The United States Congress wants to participate in preserving famous and treasured American sports stadiums. The Los Angeles Coliseum is one of them.

Front Office Sports has more on this story:

“Led by Rep. Garret Graves (R-Louisiana) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wisconsin), the Historic Stadium Caucus will develop strategies to preserve and modernize facilities that in some cases are more than 120 years old, but in a historically meaningful way.

“The group will particularly focus on security and safety enhancements, technological upgrades, and securing funding for infrastructure improvements.”

The people who manage the Coliseum agreed to be part of the project with 17 other stadium management organizations.

The Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Yale Bowl, Beaver Stadium, and Camp Randall Stadium are just some of the other stadiums which will be included in this project.

The Los Angeles Coliseum stands alone as an American sports venue. It is the only American stadium to host two Olympic Games. It will become the first to host three Olympics in 2028, when the Olympics return once again to Los Angeles.

This race will feature the shortest track of any of the current Cup Series races, with Kyle Busch winning pole position on Saturday night he will earn the first starting spot in Heat 1.

See NASCAR’s L.A. Coliseum track being built in a cool 60-second time-lapse video

NASCAR is going racing at the L.A. Coliseum.

While this weekend isn’t the official start to the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, it’s still a big deal. And a bigger one than usual.

The official start is with the Daytona 500 on Feb. 20 (plus the week leading up to it), but Sunday’s Clash at The Coliseum is the sport’s annual preseason exhibition event. However, instead of The Clash being held at Daytona International Speedway, as was tradition, it’s at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The famed Coliseum is the home for USC Trojans football, and over the years, it’s also hosted everything from the Olympics to Super Bowls and the World Series. And now, NASCAR.

Breaking ground in December, NASCAR began constructing a 0.25-mile asphalt oval inside the Coliseum. It was made specifically for this race, and the finished product looks pretty spectacular — even without cars on the track yet.

We’ve highlighted the construction process in photos, but here’s a look at the track being built in a 60-second time-lapse video from NASCAR Productions:

Everything to know about NASCAR’s 2022 Clash at The Coliseum in L.A.

For the first time, NASCAR’s exhibition Clash race will be at the L.A. Coliseum instead of Daytona. Here’s what to know.

The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season is (basically) here, and there are a lot of big changes to the schedule, starting with The Clash at The Coliseum on Sunday, Feb. 6 (6 p.m. ET, FOX) in Los Angeles.

This season’s Clash will be a 150-lap exhibition event, which translates to 37.5 miles on the newly built 0.25-mile short track INSIDE the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

NASCAR broke ground on construction in late December, and over the last several weeks, the inside of the stadium was converted into an asphalt track made specifically for this NASCAR race. And it looks pretty awesome. Even if it’s a gimmick, it’s one that could work, and we’re excited about it.

Irish in the NFL: Boykin Shines Again in LA Coliseum

Boykin caught 77 passes and 11 touchdowns at Notre Dame but I’ll always remember this block before anything else he did in blue and gold.

With the Baltimore Ravens playing on and owning Monday Night Football this week it meant for a chance for the nation to get a closeup of MVP-frontrunner, Lamar Jackson.  Before we get to the Notre Dame connection to this game let me just say that his meteoric rise to super-stardom makes me incredibly happy to be wrong about what he might be able to do in the NFL.

He’s not only the most exciting player going this season but he’s also got to be the favorite to win the MVP award after doing what he did to the Patriots a couple weeks ago on Sunday Night Football and again for his five touchdown passes and complete domination of the Rams on Monday Night Football.

Now to the Notre Dame side of this game:

Miles Boykin must have a thing for the Los Angeles Coliseum.  In last year’s regular season finale you may remember what he did to spring Tony Jones, Jr. to the end zone to clinch a 12-0 regular season.

Boykin caught 77 passes and 11 touchdowns at Notre Dame but I’ll always remember this block before anything else he did in blue and gold.

Well, Boykin was at it again Monday night as the Ravens embarrassed the reigning NFC Champs on their home field, 45-6.

It may have been out of hand at this point but its remarkable to me how Boykin’s highlight catch tonight occurs in almost the exact same spot as his block, nearly exactly a year to the day, that sent the Fighting Irish to their first College Football Playoff appearance. (Shoutout to Austin Hough of The Goshen News for pointing that out to me on Twitter).

I also wouldn’t be doing my proper work if I didn’t send mad-praise the way of Ronnie Stanley who has been an absolute monster for the Ravens and is a huge reason their downright nasty rushing attack works as well as it does.

The Ravens now sit at 9-2 on the season and atop the AFC North standings.  Along with Boykin and Stanley, former Notre Dame corner back Bennett Jackson, Jr. is also currently on the Ravens roster.
