Angels at Braves projected starters

RHP Lucas Giolito vs. RHP Yonny Chirinos

Giolito (6-7, 3.85 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.23 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 through 126 1/3 IP for the Chicago White Sox and Angels.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 4-1 loss at Toronto Blue Jays Friday in his Angels debut
  • 2023 road stats: 3-5, 5.23 ERA (63 2/3 IP, 37 ER) in 12 starts
  • Career vs. Braves: 0-1, 5.79 ERA (9 1/3 IP, 6 ER) in 1 start and 1 relief appearance

Chirinos (4-4, 4.34 ERA) makes his 6th start and 17th appearance. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 4.6 K/9 through 66 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 3 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 10-7 win vs. Milwaukee Brewers Friday in his Braves debut
  • Has surrendered 6 ER in 8 2/3 IP with 13 H allowed and a 6/4 K/BB in 2 career games at Truist Park
  • Never faced Angels before
  • Sports the lowest K/9 in the entire league for pitchers with at least 50 IP

Angels at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 6, Braves 5

Moneyline

Chirinos still has a respectable ERA but he doesn’t miss bats and his Statcast xERA is 6.08. He has really struggled lately after a hot start, logging a 7.33 ERA with 7 HR allowed in his last 23 1/3 IP.

Giolito hasn’t returned to peak form and has issued 12 BB in 21 IP across his last 4 starts. But he has rebounded from last year’s disaster and gives his team the clear pitching edge in this matchup. Back the ANGELS (+125).

Run line/Against the spread

The Angels should put up their fair share of runs and are likely to keep this game close, even if they fall short. However, Giolito has had some issues on the road and is facing an Atlanta offense that leads the league in wRC+ vs. right-handed pitching. It’s probably best to just AVOID the run line.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Braves are 2nd in the league in runs per game at home (5.91) and can go off against any opposing pitcher. Meanwhile, the Angels are 6th in runs per game on the road (5.13), made some additions at the deadline and are facing a pitcher who has displayed some weak skills. This total should push OVER 10.5 (-105).

Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Angels (56-51) and Atlanta Braves (67-37) play the finale of a 2-game set at Truist Park Tuesday. First pitch is at 7:20 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Angels vs. Braves odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Angels lead 1-0

The Angels took Game 1 Monday by a 4-1 score as they held the Braves to just 4 hits. The Halos have won 2 in a row and 7 of 10 and sit 4 1/2 games out in the AL West and 3 back from an AL Wild Card spot. Los Angeles is just 27-28 on the road and 14-18 in interleague play.

The Braves had a 3-game win streak snapped with Monday’s defeat. It was an off night after they had scored 29 runs in 3 games against the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend. Atlanta is 35-20 at home and 21-20 in interleague play and has a commanding 11-game lead in the NL East.

Angels at Braves projected starters

LHP Patrick Sandoval vs. RHP Spencer Strider

Sandoval (6-7, 4.13 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.41 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 98 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 11-4 road win vs. Detroit Tigers Thursday
  • 1 career start vs. Braves: Loss, 3 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 4 K on July 23, 2022

Strider (11-3, 3.73 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.09 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 14.6 K/9 in 123 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 10 K
  • Leads the majors with 199 K’s and 14.6 K/9
  • Home/road splits: 4-2, 4.45 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 15.4 K/9 in 11 home starts; 7-1, 2.93 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 13.6 K/9 in 10 road starts

Angels at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 7, Angels 4

Moneyline

The Braves are 13-5 against left-handed starters this season and should win this one with arguably the most dominant pitcher in baseball on the mound. However, we’re not dropping -250 on them, especially after the Angels just beat them Monday.

Strider has fanned 10 or more batters in 4 straight starts and 5 of his last 7 turns. It’s a little risky, but I’ll take a shot at SPENCER STRIDER OVER 9.5 K’S (-145).

Run line/Against the spread

The 4 games between these teams in the last 2 seasons have been decided by multiple runs. The Braves’ last 8 wins have been by multiple runs. They’ll be eager to put yesterday’s upset behind them, and they averaged nearly 10 runs per game against Milwaukee over the weekend.

I’ll take BRAVES -1.5 (-120).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Angels are 4-6 O/U over the last 10, and Atlanta is 5-5. Monday went Under, but all 3 matchups last season cashed the Over. Strider has been home run-prone lately as he has given up 11 ER in his last 3 starts. Combine that with the Braves’ mashers on offense in the Atlanta heat, and I’ll take the OVER 9 (-115).

Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Angels (55-51) and the Atlanta Braves (67-36) open a 3-game interleague series Monday at Truist Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Angels vs. Braves odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting of 2023; Braves won 2 of 3 last season in Atlanta

The Angels picked up a 3-2 road win in 10 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, salvaging the final game of the series after dropping the first 2 contests by a combined 10-2 score. Los Angeles has opened the current 9-game road trip with a 4-2 record but is just 4-8 across its last 12 away games.

The Braves completed a 3-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers at home over the weekend and have won 6 of their past 9 games overall. Atlanta has won 4 straight at home and is 19-4 across its last 23 outings at Truist Park.

Atlanta has posted a 21-19 record in interleague play, while Los Angeles has managed just a 13-18 mark in 31 tries against the National League.

Angels at Braves projected starters

RHP Griffin Canning vs. RHP Charlie Morton

Canning (6-4, 4.46 ERA) makes his 17th start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 through 84 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 8 K in a 7-6 road win vs. Detroit Tigers Tuesday
  • 2023 road splits: 3-2, 4.18 ERA (47 1/3 IP, 22 ER – 11 HR), .260 opponent batting average (OBA) in 9 starts

Morton (10-8, 3.57 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.42 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9 and 9.5 K/9 through 113 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 3 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 1 K in a 7-1 road loss vs. Boston Red Sox Tuesday
  • 2023 home splits: 5-4, 3.83 ERA (56 1/3 IP, 24 ER – 8 HR), .238 OBA in 10 starts

Angels at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 4, Angels 3

Moneyline

The Braves (-225) will cost you more than twice your potential return, and that’s quite expensive.

The Angels (+180) have been red-hot lately, winning 5 of the past 7 games and 9 of their past 12 outings. As such, playing Atlanta is too much risk and not enough reward.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

The ANGELS +1.5 (+100) are a tremendous play at even money on the run line.

The Halos are 6-2 in the past 8 games on the run line as underdogs, winning 5 of those outings straight up.

There is plenty of risk, as the Braves have a 35-19 home record and a plus-151 run differential, but the Halos have actually been the slightly better team lately.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 10 (-110) might be the best play on the board in this interleague series opener.

While the Over cashed in each of Atlanta’s 3 victories against Milwaukee over the weekend, the Under has connected in 5 straight starting assignments with Morton on the hill.

The Under cashed in all 3 of the games for the Angels in Toronto over the weekend, and the total has gone low in 9 of Canning’s 16 starts this season.

Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Angels (39-54) square off against the Atlanta Braves (57-38) Saturday in the 2nd game of a 3-game set at Truist Park. First pitch is set for 7:20 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Angels vs. Braves odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: The Braves lead 1-0.

RHP Shohei Ohtani was cruising Friday until the Braves got to him for 6 runs in the 7th inning.  Ohtani had only faced 1 batter above the minimum possible before the tides turned. The Halos ultimately fell 8-1. The 6 runs were the most he allowed in a single outing all season, and he had allowed just 2 ER in 45 2/3 innings leading up to the explosion.

The Braves delivered what could be a crushing blow for the rest of this series. They’re now 7-3 and 14-6 over their last 10 and 20 games, respectively. The Braves are lethal at home, too, with a 32-20 mark on the season. They’re winning despite All-Star OF Ronald Acuna hitting just .212 with 4 RBIs in July. You probably understand where we’re going here.

Angels at Braves projected starters

LHP Patrick Sandoval vs. RHP Kyle Wright

Sandoval (3-5, 3.00 ERA) makes his 16th start. He has a 1.43 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 across 81 IP.

  • Hasn’t won any of his last 7 starts spanning 37 2/3 IP despite a 3.35 ERA and 45 K.
  • Similar home/road splits with a 3.05 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 9.2 K/9 on the road and a 2.95 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 at Angel Stadium.

Wright (11-4, 2.95 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.16 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 8.8 K/9 across 110 IP.

  • Tied for the NL lead with 11 wins and has 1 loss in the last 9 starts.
  • Numbers are regressing a bit with a 3.83 ERA and 7.2 K/9 over his last 7 starts.

Angels at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 6, Angels 3

Money line

One thing you need to be aware of in this one — the Angels and Braves strike out the most often in baseball. So, if Tipico puts out some props for Sandoval or Wright closer to game time, you should look into them.

When you go out and pound a stud like Ohtani like the Braves did Friday, that deflates a team for the weekend. The Braves slash .259/.333/.459 against left-handed pitchers, which compares to .245/.305/.440 against righties. We can’t take the -230 juice, though, so we’ll PASS and look to the spread.

Run line/Against the spread

The Braves are 49-46 ATS (22-30 ATS at home) on the Run Line this year. They’re 23-9 against left-handed starters. It’s not a slam dunk because just 4 of their last 7 wins have been by 2 or more runs, but LEAN BRAVES -1.5 (-103) for a solid price.

Over/Under

We had 9 runs in the best pitching matchup of the series Friday. The Over is 4-1 in the Braves’ last 5 games and is 4-0 in the Angels’ last 4 games against a RHP.

The Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these teams and 4-1 in the last 5 between them in Atlanta. There is a 47% chance of rain with a slight breeze toward left field. I wouldn’t go crazy with this one, but I feel pretty good about OVER 8.5 (-108).
