Browns make flurry of roster moves as OT Jack Conklin goes on IR

With Jack Conklin officially on Injured Reserve, the Browns made a flurry of moves to adjust their roster.

Despite their dominant win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Week 1 was not all good news for the Cleveland Browns. Veteran offensive tackle Jack Conklin suffered another season-ending injury, this time tearing both his ACL and MCL after just signing a contract extension last season. He has officially been placed on Injured Reserve as the Browns have signed fan favorite offensive guard Michael Dunn off of the practice squad to fill his roster spot on the 53-man roster.

That was not the only move the Browns made, however, as they then had Dunn’s practice squad spot to fill. They then made an additional practice squad move as well, so they had to clear another spot on the reserves. It was a busy day in Berea.

Here are all of the moves the Browns made to their roster today, as it was a domino effect after they ended Conklin’s season and placed him on IR.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns defenders vs. the Eagles

Who topped the Browns list of top defenders on Thursday?

The defense of the Cleveland Browns had an impressive start to Thursday’s against the Philadelphia Eagles. They started the game by forcing an early safety to get Cleveland on the board first. Rookie undrafted free agent linebacker Mohamoud Diabate continued to show that he can be a nice depth piece for the team. He played fast diagnosing the play in front of him quickly and exploding to the ball to make a play.

Before exiting early with an injury, one he has been cleared of, Ronnie Hickman made another interception as he fights for a roster spot. The Browns also debuted new defensive tackle Shelby Harris as he works to get up to speed.

Here are PFF’s best Browns defensive players from their third preseason game against the Eagles.

CB Lorenzo Burns exits game vs. Eagles with a shoulder injury

Lorenzo Burns injured his shoulder during the preseason game against the Eagles and is questionable to return.

Cleveland Browns cornerback Lorenzo Burns left the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles during the second quarter. The second-year player remained on the field before being helped to the locker room by trainers. The trainers diagnosed him with a minor shoulder injury and he’s questionable to return as the injuries are mounting for the Browns.

The USFL star was signed by the Browns in early August. Burns has primarily played special teams snaps for the team.

Browns add USFL CB Lorenzo Burns to training camp roster

The Browns have filled their 90th roster spot

After hosting free agent defensive tackle Shelby Harris for a visit, many were hoping the Cleveland Browns would ink him to fill their 90th roster spot after releasing Bopete Keyes. However, instead, the Browns have added another cornerback in the form of USFL standout Lorenzo Burns.

Burns initially signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Arizona in 2021. He has also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals as well. He, however, did not make the roster and has instead spent the past season with the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions.

Burns racked up two interceptions in nine games at the USFL level. Do not expect this to rule the Browns out of the Harris market, however, as the guys at the bottom of the 90-man roster are little more than pawns and camp bodies.

Cardinals waive CB Tae Hayes with CB Lorenzo Burns’ return from COVID list

The Cardinals get one player back off the COVID list and release one player on Thursday. Two players remain on the COVID list.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a pair of corresponding roster moves Thursday, making a swap of cornerbacks. Undrafted rookie Lorenzo Burns, who had been out on the reserve/COVID-19 list for over a week, was reinstated and returned to practice.

To make room for him, the team waived Tae Hayes.

Hayes signed with the Cardinals in May. He has played in six NFL games in his career.

Burns was one of four undrafted rookies the Cardinals signed after the draft. He played collegiately at Arizona.

Receiver Rico Gafford and offensive lineman Shaq Calhoun remain on the COVID list for the Cardinals.
