Texas trending for four-star running back Terrance Gibbs

Texas is looking to add a second running back to its 2022 class.

Texas is gaining some momentum less than a week before the early signing period.

Five-star offensive lineman Kelvin Banks got the ball rolling with his commitment on Saturday.

More good news is expected as the Horns have received four crystal ball predictions for four-star running back Terrance Gibbs.

247Sports composite has Gibbs ranked No. 30 among running backs in the nation and just outside the top 300 nationally.

Texas has four-star Jaydon Blue committed but Steve Sarkisian wants to take two running backs for this cycle. Gibbs would fill that hole in Texas’ 2022 class after Jamarion Miller flipped to Alabama.

Gibbs decommited from Florida in Nov. after the Gators moved on from Dan Mullen.

The Florida product totaled over 2,500 yards and 38 touchdowns in his sophomore and junior seasons. A torn ACL in fall camp cut Gibbs’ senior year short before it even started.

LOOK: Five-star LB Harold Perkins meets with Steve Sarkisian and staff

Perkins would be a massive get for Steve Sarkisian’s first full recruiting class. Sark, Banks, Gideon, PK and Joseph all showed up.

Steve Sarkisian and company are making their way around the country to visit top prospects.

The Texas staff met with five-star linebacker Harold Perkins in his home on Wednesday night. Pictured below is special teams coordinator Jeff Banks, safeties coach Blake Gideon, secondary coach Terry Joesph, head coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.

Having several of Texas’ top recruiters present at Perkins home is a clear indicator of the type of rare talent he possesses.

The 247Sports composite rankings have Perkins rated as the No. 1 linebacker in the country and No. 5 overall prospect in the 2022 class.

Pekins has named Texas A&M, LSU and Texas as his top three schools as he plans to sign during the early signing period next week.

A commitment from Perkins would make up an excellent linebacker class for Texas. The Horns currently have two linebackers committed in four-star Kobie Mckinzie and three-star Trevell Johnson.

Texas’ recruiting class is ranked No. 7 in the nation with multiple top targets still on the board. Steve Sarkisian’s first full class has a chance to finish in the top five if Texas can close with a few key players down the stretch.

After a 5-7 record Texas’ recruiting effort has been impressive.

Texas WR commit Brenen Thompson will join Quinn Ewers on campus this weekend

A huge recruiting weekend upcoming for Texas.

The weekend before the early signing period is always a vital one.

This year is no different as Texas will host former five-star Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers on Saturday, a player who has taken over national headlines with the news of his transfer over the past week.

Ewers is coming off visits to Texas Tech and TCU, and the Red Raiders now appear to be Texas’ biggest competition. New head coach Joey McGuire has made an appealing pitch to Ewers, plus the acquisition of offensive coordinator Zach Kittley and some potential NIL money has gained the attention of the five-star.

Texas will get the chance to host Ewers this weekend on what will likely be his final visit before making a decision. Wide receiver Brenen Thompson, the highest graded commit in Texas’ 2022 recruiting class, will make his way to Austin to join Ewers.

The four-star wide receiver was one of the first recruits to contact Ewers on Twitter after news broke he was entering the portal.

Having these two offensive playmakers on campus together this weekend will benefit the Horns as Thompson will undoubtedly do his best to persuade Ewers to play alongside him at Texas.

Five-star OT Kelvin Banks decommits from Oregon

A major Texas target has decommited from Oregon.

The crazy college football coaching carousel continued over the weekend as Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal has decided to leave Eugene to become the head coach of Miami.

Due to the coaching change, five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks has decided to reopen his recruitment.

Steve Sarkisian’s staff had remained in close contact with Banks throughout his verbal commitment to Oregon. Now, the odds of Texas landing one of the nation’s top offensive lineman is becoming a strong possibility.

The Humble product made visits to both Texas and Texas A&M over the course of the fall.

The 247Sports composite ranking has Banks rated as the No. 2 offensive tackle prospect in the country and No. 5 overall payer in the state of Texas. If Banks chooses Texas, he would become the highest graded player in their 2022 recruiting class.

Recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks from 247Sports had high praise for Banks in his scouting report:

A high-floor offensive lineman who also still has significant developmental potential to provide a high ceiling in the long term. Should become a multi-year high-major starter. Possesses long-term potential to reach the early rounds of the NFL Draft.

Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood have made Banks a top priority as Texas needs help on the offensive line in a major way.

Getting more elite in-state talent to Austin will go a long way towards Texas competing for championships under Sarkisian.

Texas players, recruits react to new offensive line NIL deal

“The Pancake Factory” NIL deal is grabbing lots of attention.

Name, Image and Likeness deals have taken over college football since the NCAA made the rule change back in July.

Many players across the country have already made millions of dollars in the short time they have been able to profit up to this point.

Multiple Texas athletes have already taken advantage of NIL by signing endorsement deals, selling merchandise and more. For example, running back Bijan Robinson has a deal with Raising Canes and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was able to get his mother a car through a deal with Covert Hutto.

A new organization named Horns with Heart has set up a deal where each Texas offensive lineman will be paid $50,000 per year called “The Pancake Factory.”

Details of the deal were given in their initial statement:

Starting 8/1/22 all scholarship Offensive Linemen at the University of Texas will receive $50,000 annually ($800,000 combined) for use of their NIL and participating in charitable causes.

Money talks and Texas players and recruits have taken notice of the new NIL deal. See their reactions here:

Four-star OL Earnest Greene releases top four schools

Texas makes the cut for elite offensive line prospect Earnest Greene.

Four-star offensive lineman Earnest Greene narrowed his recruitment down to four schools on Friday afternoon. Texas, Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama for the uber-talented prospect.

247Sports has Greene rated as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the nation and a top 50 player overall for the class of 2022.

National recruiting analyst for 247Sports Greg Biggins had promising things to say in his scouting report of Greene.

Shows raw power at the point of attack and is a powerful run blocker. Plays with a mean streak and has the right amount of nastiness you love to see in an elite lineman. Plays through the whistle but under control and doesn’t take needless penalties. Can get to the second level and make a block on a linebacker or safety and is equally strong as a pass blocker.

Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood have made the Cali. product a very high priority. Greene is the type of player who could make an immediate impact for a Texas offensive line that struggled for much of the 2021 season.

Several recruits react to Lincoln Riley going to USC

Recruits across the country react to Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for USC.

The college football world was turned upside down after news broke that Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley will head out west to take over at USC.

Many Oklahoma fans believed they were safe after Riley denied interest in the LSU job after the Sooners’ loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday.

It’s an ultimate power move for USC as Riley has led Oklahoma to five conference titles and is regarded as one of the best offensive minds in the sport.

Riley’s move will have a major impact on recruiting classes across the nation. In the 2022 and 2023 classes, Oklahoma has four blue-chip commits from California.

Oklahoma currently has the No. 7 ranked 2022 class and the No. 1 2023 class according to 247Sports.

Texas may benefit from Riley’s departure as the Horns and Sooners have been battling for multiple recruits. With the early signing period only weeks away, recruits now face uncertainty about who will be Oklahoma’s next coach.

Many recruits took to Twitter to share their thoughts on USC hiring Riley on Sunday.
