Lindsey Vonn talks Tiger Woods, mental health during release of her new memoir, ‘Rise’

Vonn dated Tiger Woods for nearly three years before the pair split in 2015.

Lindsey Vonn recently returned from a European vacation, skiing in France with a few family members and friends.

She said it was the first ski vacation she’s had since she was 9 years old.

“It’s a much different experience now,” the Olympic gold medalist said Monday. “I enjoy kind of going slow – I mean, maybe not as slow as I should.”

Nearly three years after retiring, Vonn, 37, said she remains as competitive as ever – giving friends a head start on the mountain, for instance, and racing to catch them. She will not be competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, the first Games since a string of injuries ended her professional career. But she said she’s enjoyed the new stage of her relationship with the sport.

“I think in a lot of ways it made it easier that my decision was kind of made for me, in the sense that my body really was telling me that that enough was enough,” Vonn said. “I think it would be very difficult for me to just stop on my own because I love it so much.”

Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn dated for nearly three years.

‘Happy’ for Tiger’s time with his kids

As for her relationship with Tiger Woods, with whom she was romantically linked for nearly three years, she said the two have remained on good terms since splitting in 2015. At the time, the breakup was considered amicable and Vonn wrote, “I will always cherish the memories that we’ve created together. Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend a majority of our time apart.”

She added then that she would “always admire and respect Tiger. He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart.”

During her current book tour she said the two are still friendly, and she’s been happy to see him spending time with his children, including his recent appearance at the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, especially in light of his nearly fatal car crash in 2021.

“We are friends and, of course, I’m happy that he is back and healthy,” Vonn said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “And, you know, it was a tough time for him. So I am just happy that he is back with his kids.”

Vonn was previously married to Olympic skier Thomas Vonn for four years before she dated Woods. Also, in December 2020, she split from hockey player P.K. Subban after a 3-year relationship.

One of the most decorated U.S. female skiers in history, Vonn competed in four Winter Games and was, at one point, arguably the face of Team USA. She won three Olympic medals in her career, including a gold in downhill in Vancouver, on top of 82 victories in World Cup races. She retired in February 2019 after winning bronze in downhill at the world championships.

Vonn said she was “obviously sad” and “a little bit resentful” in the immediate aftermath of her retirement. She wanted to continue racing and said she would have tried to compete in Beijing if her body had held up. But in time, she’s both processed those feelings and tried to spend time appreciating what she achieved in her career. Working on her new memoir, “Rise,” has helped.

“I think in general it was very therapeutic,” Vonn said. “Life is totally different once I retired. So I think it was an important time for me to be able to look back and remember my journey, appreciate my journey and be proud of where I am today.

“I think sometimes when you’re in the moment you lose perspective of how hard you’ve worked and how far you’ve come. And I definitely, again, think I had a different perspective after a while of being retired.”

In the book, which was released Tuesday, Vonn takes readers through her early days in the sport – she and her father started mapping out her path to the Olympics when she was 9 – and her feelings at key junctures along the way. She writes about feeling overlooked and insecure as a teenage skier, for instance, and about the decision to use men’s skis midway through her career.

Vonn also writes in detail about her battle with depression, which she managed throughout her career, in part with medication. She credits a new therapist with helping her work through retirement, which she describes as “harder than any of my injuries, harder than anything I’ve done.”

“I’ve been all over the spectrum, from thinking I didn’t need a therapist, to having a difficult time opening up to someone, to where I am today,” Vonn writes in the book. “Eventually, I came to realize that you won’t just wake up one day and discover that all your problems are gone. No one can do everything on their own — not even someone as independent and stubborn as I am.”

Though it might feel a bit strange, Vonn said she’s looking forward to just being a “regular spectator” for the upcoming Winter Olympics, which begin Feb. 4. It will help that the first Games after her retirement are being held in China, at a venue where she’s never raced.

“I think if it were somewhere else, I would always think, ‘Well, I could have skied that section better,’ or I would’ve wanted maybe to ski there more,” she said. “Because it’s a new venue, because I’m retired, I think I’m going to be able to watch these Olympics and just be excited for my teammates.”

Lindsey Vonn went skiing with Hugh Jackman while he sang a ‘Les Miserables’ song

Skiing AND musical theater!

For fans of both sports and musical theater, Lindsey Vonn and Hugh Jackman recently created some pretty spectacular content.

The Olympic gold medal-winning skier and Oscar-nominated actor went skiing a few weeks ago at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, according to Vonn’s Instagram account. And, of course, they shot and posted several photos and videos of their time on the slopes on social media.

In addition to racing each other at one point — obviously, Vonn gave Jackman a huge head start — they also put on a little show. Well, Jackman did anyway, and with the help of a skiing violinist, he reprised his role of Jean Valjean from the 2012 movie, Les Misérables.

Accompanied by the skiing violinist, Jackman sang One Day More — the song performed at the end of the iconic show’s first act that also went viral late last year ahead of Election Day. And it was fantastic.

Vonn and Jackman looked like they had a great time at Deer Valley, so here’s a look at some of their other posts from their trip.

And their musical performances weren’t limited to the slopes either.

Lindsey Vonn and P.K. Subban call of engagement, announce split

It always sucks when super hot people break up!

Lindsey Vonn and P.K. Subban announced Tuesday afternoon that they are ending their relationship after three years together.

The couple announced the split in separate but similar Instagram posts. Subban and Vonn famously got together after he took his shot on the ESPY’s red carpet in 2018.

“After much consideration, we have decided to move forward separately. We will always remain friends and love each other immensely. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time,” Vonn and Subban both posted.

The couple also added personal notes to their message.

“Lindsey is one of the most kind and caring people I know. I will always treasure our time as a couple together and the many laughs we shared,” Subban, who will start the 2021 NHL season with the New Jersey Devils, wrote.

“Over the past 3 years PK and I have had some incredible times together. He is a kind, good man, and someone I respect a great deal,” Vonn said.

Maybe this was sudden, maybe this has been coming for some time, but the fact that they didn’t post holiday pictures together should have been a tip off that the relationship made in winter sports heaven was no more. Anyway, pour one out for these two super hot people who will surely have no problem finding love again, which is more than I can say for some of us losers.

Skier Lindsey Vonn proposes to New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban

The tables were turned around when Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn proposed to New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban on December 25th after dating for two years.

The tables were turned around when Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn proposed to New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban on December 25th after dating for two years.

Lindsey Vonn proposed to P.K. Subban on Christmas and he said yes

“Women aren’t the only ones who should get engagement rings!”

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn and New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban had quite a Christmas that ended with them being engaged after dating for two years.

Vonn was the one doing the asking, as she gave Subban an engagement ring that they showed off on social media.

She tweeted on Wednesday afternoon: “Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone!! On our 2 year anniversary, in a “non traditional” move, I asked PK to marry me and he said, Yes. Women aren’t the only ones who should get engagement rings! #MerryChristmas #equality.”

I think this “non traditional” move is pretty great. If you’re in love who gives a darn about who does the asking? Make the move and get the wheels in motion to have a rocking wedding… and an open bar, which is the key to any good wedding.

Here’s a picture of the happy couple and their awesome dogs:

Congrats!

P.K. Subban and Lindsey Vonn show us what real love is by firing hockey pucks at each other

We had Love and Basketball. Now we have Love and Hockey.

Nothing says “I love you” quite like allowing your fiancee to fire off hockey pucks at you. That’s how Lindsey Vonn and P.K. Subban spent their evening at a Red Bull event in New York City’s Bryant Park.

It feels like the event was less of an actual event and more of a date between the engaged couple, which is probably for the better. They were the only two on the park’s ice skating rink during the event and Subban put Vonn through stick drills on the ice. It turned into a pretty adorable scene.

First, they played a bit of bubble hockey.

Then, Subban put Vonn through some legit handling drills.

Then they fired pucks at each other. Trust falls are one thing, but imagine letting your fiancee shoot hockey pucks at you. That’s a different kind of love.

This is all a concept. First we had Love and Basketball. Now? Love and Hockey.
