Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers Game 5 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers meet in Game 5 of a best-of-7 Eastern Conference, 1st-round series Monday. The Panthers lead the series 3-1. Puck drop from Amerant Bank Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Lightning vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning awakened to salvage a Game 4 win in a 6-3 surge Saturday. They put up an eye-popping 61 hits in the game. C Steven Stamkos and LW Brandon Hagel each had 2 goals in the W. It was encouraging to see some desperation from the team that really looked flat in the first 3 games.

The Panthers weren’t terrible, going 2 for 2 on the power play, but they allowed Tampa to go 2 for 5 on their PP. C Sam Reinhart scored his 3rd goal of the series. LW Matthew Tkachuk had 2 assists but just 2 shots on goal. They return home with another chance to send the Lightning to the golf course.

Lightning at Panthers projected goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (30-20-2, 2.90 GAA, .900 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (36-17-4, 2.37 GAA, .915 SV%, 6 SO)

Vassy got the win in Game 4, but he still allowed 3 goals on 25 shots for an .880 SV%. He has a 3.01 GAA and .899 SV% in the series. After allowing 2 goals in Game 1, he has allowed 3+ in the 3 games since.

Bob had an off game Saturday, allowing 6 goals on 32 shots. He allowed 7 goals in the 3 games combined before Game 4. He has a 3.21 GAA and .874 SV% in the series after the clunker.

Lightning at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 4, Lightning 2

Moneyline

The Lightning could always turn it on one more time, but the alarming thing for me is RW Nikita Kucherov. In an elimination game, he had 0 shots on goal. Granted, he had 3 assists, but Florida has completely neutralized him, and he has 0 goals in the series.

The Panthers are too expensive to consider here. Instead, take NIKITA KUCHEROV UNDER 3.5 SHOTS (-165). He had 4 shots once in 4 games in the series.

Puck line/Against the spread

Another prop I see is VICTOR HEDMAN OVER 2.5 SHOTS (+125).

It’s a little surprising to see him at plus-money when he has 3+ SOG in 3 of 4 games in the series. Send it with Hedman!

Over/Under

The last 2 games took the Over, but the first 2 in the Panthers’ arena were 3-2 finishes. I look for a similar Game 5 result. The Over is just 5-5 in the last 10 meetings, and I’ll take the UNDER 6.5 (-115).

Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers Game 5 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers Game 5 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers play Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Below, we analyze the Lightning-Panthers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning posted a 6-2 victory against the Panthers in Game 4, taking a 3-1 series lead to push Florida to the brink. Tampa Bay has rolled up an impressive 4.8 goals per game through four outings in the series.

The Panthers found the back of the net six times in an overtime victory in Game 3 to get back into the series after losing the first two at home. However, they were crushed 6-2 in Game 4, as neither Sergei Bobrovsky or Chris Driedger have shown much consistency in the crease.

Lightning at Panthers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Lightning -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Panthers -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Lightning -1.5 (+225) | Panthers +1.5 (-275)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Lightning at Panthers: Projected starting goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Spencer Knight (4-0-0, 2.32 GAA, .919 SV%)

Vasilevskiy made 39 saves on 41 shots in Game 4 helping the Lightning to the 3-1 series lead. He has made at least 32 saves in each of the four games in this series so far.

Sergei Bobrovsky and Chris Driedger have been a bust so far in this series, and with their backs against the wall, it’s time for Knight to make his first-career postseason start. The 20-year-old Connecticut native has won all four starts in his career from April 20-May 3.

Lightning at Panthers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Panthers 4, Lightning 3

Money line (ML)

The PANTHERS (-105) are worth playing in this elimination game on home ice. Turning to Knight will prove to be a good move as Bob and Driedger have been just been too inconsistent. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the move will pay off, at least for another game.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Panthers +1.5 (-275) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s just terribly risky.

AVOID, and play the money line only.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-120) is the way to go here as we have seen the Over in three of the four games in this series. In fact, there have been a total of 32 goals through the four games and 8.0 combined goals per outing.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers Game 2 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers play Game 2 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Below, we analyze the Lightning-Panthers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning won a seesaw affair against the Panthers in Game 1, edging Florida 5-4 in the first-ever playoff meeting between these intrastate rivals. Tampa Bay RW Nikita Kucherov made his season debut after recovering from hip surgery and he bagged two power-play goals in the second period.

The Panthers received goals from four different scorers, including C Carter Verhaeghe against his former team. But C Brayden Point was the difference maker with two third-period goals, showing off Tampa Bay’s amazing depth.

Lightning at Panthers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:26 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Lightning -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Panthers +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Lightning -1.5 (+180) | Panthers +1.5 (-225)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Lightning at Panthers: Projected starting goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (19-8-2, 2.91 GAA, .906 SV%)

Vasilevskiy stopped 35 of the 39 shots in Game 1. He trailed 4-3 early in the third period, but Point bailed him out with two goals in the final 7 minutes, including the winner with 74 seconds left in regulation.

Bobrovsky allowed goals to three different Lightning players, but Kucherov and Point got him twice apiece, and C Blake Coleman registered a shorthanded goal. That made for four special-teams goals, something Florida will certainly need to clean up if it wants to succeed in this series.

Lightning at Panthers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 4, Panthers 3

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-140) found a way to win the opener on the road, even though they didn’t play their best game. The defending champs showed off their offensive muscle, and they had it going on with the man advantage. Until the Panthers show they can lock it down defensively, keep fading Florida.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Panthers +1.5 (-225) are a little too expensive for my liking on the puck line, but they would be my play rather than backing the Lightning -1.5 (+180). Still, the best play is to AVOID and just concentrate on the money line and total.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6 (-105) is the play even with the likes of a Vezina-caliber goaltender like Vasilevskiy in the crease for the visitors. He was beaten four times Sunday, and Florida has plenty of firepower to do it again.

The Over was a solid 5-2-1 in the eight regular-season meetings between Florida and Tampa Bay, and these teams went well Over in the series opener.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers Game 1 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers Game 1 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers play Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Below, we analyze the Lightning-Panthers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning are the defending Stanley Cup champs, but they were just third in the Central Division and must open their title defense on the road. For the first time in NHL postseason history, they meet the cross-state rival Panthers.

Tampa Bay will have RW Nikita Kucherov (hip) and C Steven Stamkos (lower body) in the lineup for Game 1.

Florida won the past three head-to-head meetings, outscoring Tampa Bay by a 14-4 margin. The Panthers also won three of four vs. the Lightning in Sunrise this season, outscoring the Bolts 15-9. The lone loss was by a 6-1 score. Otherwise, Florida really dominated on home ice.

Lightning at Panthers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:34 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Lightning -120 (bet $120 to win $100) | Panthers +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Lightning -1.5 (+200) | Panthers +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Lightning at Panthers: Projected starting goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (19-8-2, 2.91 GAA, .906 SV%)

Vasilevskiy won 31 games this season, but he dropped his final two starts of the regular season at the Panthers by a combined score of 9-1. He allowed nine goals on 65 shots in the two games.

The 26-year-old Russian backstop went 2-4-0 with a 3.36 GAA and .898 SV% in six appearances against Florida. The GAA was easily the highest against any opponent, and the SV% was also his worst against any team.

Bobrovsky finished up strong with three straight wins to end the regular season, including a 5-1 win over Tampa May 8. He was 3-2-0 with a 3.23 GAA and .879 SV% in five meetings against the Lightning this season.

Lightning at Panthers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 4, Panthers 3

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-120) are the defending champs. I trust Vasilevskiy and Tampa Bay after their run in the bubble last season more than I trust a Panthers side which hasn’t gone far in the playoffs in decades.

Until Florida earns that trust and proves it has championship mettle, you have to back the tried-and-true side.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Panthers +1.5 (-250) have given the Lightning -1.5 (+200) fits, and even if they don’t win this one outright, it’s going to be close. Of course, the Panthers did win five of the eight regular-season meetings, and just one of the games was decided by one goal. Playing the underdog to keep it close isn’t a wise move based on recent history.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-110) seems like an unwise play in a game featuring two goaltenders the caliber of Vasilevskiy and Bobrovsky. However, Vasilevskiy allowed north of three goals against the Cats, while Bobrovsky did the same against the Lightning.

The Over was 5-2-1 in the eight regular-season meetings. Offense will reign supreme.
