Tampa Bay Buccaneers add veteran running back LeSean McCoy

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added another veteran, signing running back LeSean McCoy.

The names are oh so familiar. Will they translate to success for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Another star, running back LeSean McCoy, joins newcomers Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski on the Bucs’ roster for 2020.

The Bucs signed the former Philadelphia Eagle, Buffalo Bill and Kansas City Chief to a one-year contract Thursday.

McCoy, 32, rushed for a career-low 465 yards with Kansas City in 2019. He actually was a healthy scratch at the end of the season and in the postseason.

Overall, the former Pitt star has rushed for 11,071 yards and 73 touchdowns.

His best season was 2013 when he led the NFL in rushing with 1,607 yards for the Eagles.

Ronald Jones Jr. is expected to be the Bucs’ feature back, but McCoy should see a healthy amount of work. Jones was the leading rusher last season with 724 yards. The departed Peyton Barber and Jameis Winston were the only other Bucs to crack the century mark rushing.

Former Eagles RB LeSean McCoy signs 1-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

LeSean McCoy signs 1-year deal with the Buccaneers

LeSean McCoy had discussions about returning to the Philadelphia Eagles but a chance to chase one more Super Bowl was too much to turn down and he’ll be joining Tom Brady in Tampa Bay reports Adam Schefter.

The Eagles all-time leading rusher, McCoy won a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs last season but was inactive for the big game after being released by the Bills and picked up by Kansas City.

In Tampa Bay, McCoy will pair with Tom Brady to give the Bucs another weapon out the backfield.

This quote from LeSean McCoy makes it sound like the Bucs would be a great fit

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need some veteran experience in their backfield, and free agent running back LeSean McCoy sounds like he’s game.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense is stacked heading into 2020, looking more like a Madden NFL 21 team with guys like Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Mike Evans on the roster.

While the passing game will certainly be the strength of the Tampa Bay offense, as it has been in years past, the team still needs help in the backfield to put pressure on opposing defenses to stop the run, which will help open up the passing attack.

Ronald Jones had a solid sophomore campaign in 2019, rushing for 724 yards and six touchdowns, but with the loss of Peyton Barber to the Washington Football Team in free agency, the Bucs needed to add some more depth at the running back position, which is why they used their third-round pick in April’s NFL draft on Vanderbilt running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

While the talent is certainly there for the Bucs, a veteran leader in the backfield could help this young group of backs excel in a pressure-filled season where the team has championship expectations.

One free agent running back who might be a fit? How about LeSean McCoy, who won a Super Bowl last season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Speaking with NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on NFL NOW, McCoy said he’s spoken to a few teams about playing in 2020, and said right now it is all about finding the right fit.

Per McCoy:

“But I think the biggest thing is to find the right fit. Find the right fit for me. I think at the point in my career, not just playing football. I want to play for the right team. I want to be able to contribute. I want to be able to win another championship. You can’t go from playing with the Chiefs with all that talent and winning a championship to now just trying to play. I’m the type of guy, I want to come in a room, challenge the running backs, get them better. Be a veteran leader. All the type of things I want to bring to a team. So, just got to find the right fit for me.”

The part about McCoy wanting to be a veteran leader and challenge the running backs certainly makes him sound like an ideal fit for the Bucs backfield. While Jones is the incumbent back, he’s still young and only has one solid year of productivity under his belt. Plus, McCoy could be a great mentor to a guy like Vaughn, who will likely be used as a pass-catching back in a lot of situations.

The Buccaneers may already be loaded on offense, but more veteran experience — including Super Bowl experience — could certainly come in handy.

Eagles set to make a big move that improves the roster; Here are 6 possible transactions

Philadelphia Eagles could be set to make a big roster move this week

[jwplayer s5C3fwjc]

The Philadelphia Eagles are a little less than two weeks away from the start of their 2020 NFL training camp and one NFL analyst with ties to the city and the teams believe some news will be made in the coming days.

Brian Baldinger is a former Eagles player and currently works as an analyst for the team during the preseason and for NFL Network during the regular season.

Baldinger sent social media into a buzz when he revealed that a little birdy passed along the news that the Eagles could be prepared to make a move this week that could greatly “improve the roster.”

With the Eagles linked to several big named free agents on the open market and Yannick Ngakoue, here are five possible transactions that Howie Roseman and company could make this week.

Jadeveon Clowney –DE

1. Jadeveon Clowney bets on himself for a season

Clowney has been asked to be a star in Houston and with the Seattle Seahawks, but here in Philadelphia, quarterback pressures reign supreme. Some combination of Clowney, Brandon Graham, Javon Hargrave, and Fletcher Cox would provide pressure that hasn’t been seen around these parts since the Minister of Defense wreaked havoc with Jerome Brown and Clyde Simmons.

For Clowney in Philadelphia, it would be less about the sacks and more about the pressure he would take off of Brandon Graham and his other running mates.

Remaining July free agents left for Bills to consider

Are there any free agents out there in July for the Buffalo Bills to sign?

Welcome to July, can’t you just taste the football right around the corner?

Of course, that means little right now. There’s a plan in place to start training camp, as scheduled, at the end of the month… but who really knows what will happen? Assuming that goes according to plan, NFL rosters are still pretty set in stone now.

But let’s have some fun. If Bills general manager Brandon Beane were to be in the market to add another free agent or two before training camp comes around, could there be some options out there?

Here are 15 free agent options for the Bills to consider in July:

RB Devonta Freeman

Age: 28

Freeman could be another solid complement to their complement. Devin Singletary is the No. 1, shifty runner for the Bills. Zack Moss gets the heavy lifting done at times, while Freeman is a solid third-down option as a proven pass catcher. However, bad news could be the asking price. We’re not sure exactly what it would be, but of said in June, Bucs coach Bruce Arians said it’s too high.

LeSean McCoy had one of the best RB seasons of decade with Bills

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has top-10 season of last decade.

LeSean McCoy left the Bills prior to last season looking as if he had lost a step. But when Shady arrived, it certainly appeared Buffalo got a steal in trading for him. His production for the team was nothing short of excellent.

From 2015-2018, McCoy helped the Bills establish themselves as one of the primer rushing teams in the NFL. Of all those years, Football Outsiders via ESPN pegged one of McCoy’s years with the Bills as one of the best of the best of the past decade of NFL football.

In 2016, McCoy had a Bills career-high 1,267 rushing yards, 14 total touchdowns and averaged 5.4 yards per carry. For that effort, Shady’s 2016 season was tabbed as the ninth-best running back season of the 2010s using Football Outsiders DYAR formula (Defensive-adjusted yards above replacement).

Here’s how Shady’s stellar season is broken down:

9. LeSean McCoy, 2016 Bills (456 DYAR)
The 28-year-old McCoy was outstanding in his second year with Buffalo, averaging 5.4 yards per carry (third among qualifying running backs) and 7.1 yards per reception with an 88% catch rate. He also scored 14 touchdowns: 13 on the ground, 1 through the air. But what really pumps this season up is a very difficult schedule of opposing run defenses, adjustments for which add nearly 100 rushing DYAR to McCoy’s total. Half of McCoy’s games came against teams ranked seventh or higher in run defense DVOA, with AFC East foes the Jets and Patriots both in the top five.

The Bills certainly got the better of that trade for McCoy, which only cost Buffalo linebacker Kiko Alonso. Interestingly, McCoy actually appears on this list twice. At No, 7, his 2013 season with the Eagles appears on the rankings as well.

In regard to his Bills seasons, especially early on, one has to mention is offensive line. That grouping was anchored by two Pro Bowl and excellent talents in Richie Incognito and Eric Wood. They played their part, too.

Leading this list overall is a very recent season, Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey from 2019. He edges out Texans running back Adrian Foster from 2010 and Saints running back Alvin Kamara from 2017, respectively.

Lane Johnson seems open to idea of LeSean McCoy returning to the Philadelphia Eagles

Lane Johnson would welcome LeSean McCoy returning to the Eagles

LeSean McCoy is angling to return to the Philadelphia Eagles and one of his former teammates seems to be all for the idea.

While hosting DeSean Jackson on his new Instagram live show, Outside The Lane, the Eagles right tackle and star wideout were discussing the potential for a LeSean McCoy return to the team.

“They’re asking if Shady is gonna come back,” Jackson said. “They’re gonna ask if Shady’s coming back. [I’m going to] leave that to you. What do you think about Shady coming back?”

“Hey, I wanna see it,” Johnson answered. “You already know how I feel.”

The Eagles all-time leading rusher, McCoy has been working to get back to Philadelphia and the franchise hasn’t shied away from it, reportedly considering the former second-round pick.

McCoy, who turns 32 in July, rushed for 465 yards on 4.6 yards per carry and four touchdowns with the Chiefs last season.

Report: Eagles have interest in LeSean McCoy

Former Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy may return to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Not much Bills-related here, just a blast from the past.

Running back LeSean McCoy is fresh off a Super Bowl win, albeit he was inactive during that game while with the Chiefs. But the Bills cut the former two-time All-Pro prior to last season, allowing Shady to sign there.

McCoy, 31, started his Bills career in 2015 when he was traded to the club from his first team, the Eagles.

According to Eagles Wire, there could be a chance that things come full circle for McCoy. Reportedly there’s interest from the Eagles in bringing McCoy, who’s currently a free agent, back.

There’s interest from both sides, but the report indicates that McCoy has yet to receive any sort of offer from the team that made him a second-round pick. When traded to the Bills, the running back seemed apprehensive about heading to Buffalo. At the time, he had never played outside of Pennsylvania, having attended college at the University of Pittsburgh.

But a new five-year deal worth $40 million made things a bit easier for Shady to make that move and in the end, he often touts Bills Mafia as some of the best fans he played for.

And of course if McCoy wants to finish his career with the Eagles, no reason for Bills fans to feel any animosity about that. The Bills received 5,148 all-purpose yards from the back in his four years of service with the team while the Eagles only got one year of service from linebacker Kiko Alonso, who Buffalo sent the other way in the trade that the Bills certainly won.

Shoutout Doug Whaley for that fine transaction he pulled off.

LeSean McCoy could be Eagles only free agent RB option as Devonta Freeman weighs other offers

LeSean McCoy could be Eagles only remaining free agent option at RB

The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of another running back on the roster and LeSean McCoy is looking to return to where it all started.

Both parties have a mutual interest in reuniting and with free-agent running backs disappearing off the open market, McCoy to the Eagles could be more about when and not if.

According to Jeff McLane of The Inquirer, after missing out on Carlos Hyde, the Eagles could miss out on Devonta Freeman as well.

McCoy has talked openly about returning to the Eagles and the leading rusher in Eagles history, with 6,792 yards could get his wish to finish career in Philadelphia.

Eagles set to choose between adding Devonta Freeman, LeSean McCoy or Carlos Hyde to the roster?

Eagles to choose between Devonta Freeman, Carlos Hyde, and LeSean McCoy

The Philadelphia Eagles have looking for a complementary piece to pair with Miles Sanders and Tim McManus of ESPN.com is reporting that they’ve found their targets.

As we’ve previously reported, the Eagles will likely choose between free-agent running backs Devonta Freeman, LeSean McCoy, and Carlos Hyde.

The Eagles have already reached out and expressed interest in Freeman, according to a league source. He has fans in the Eagles’ building, including running backs coach Duce Staley, whose relationship with Freeman dates to Freeman’s playing days at Florida State.

The Eagles’ current running back room includes Sanders, Boston Scott, Corey Clement, Elijah Holyfield, and undrafted rookies Adrian Killins Jr. and Michael Warren.

Freeman reportedly has a bigger offer on the table from the Seahawks, while McCoy has expressed interest in ending his NFL career with the Eagles.
