The picks are in, ESPN’s College GameDay makes their selections for today’s games

The ESPN College GameDay crew along with special guest, Master’s winner and Coastal Carolina alum Dustin Johnson pick today’s winners.

It looked like Coastal Carolina would be facing Liberty early in the week, but due to COVID-19 issues within the Liberty program, the game had to be adjusted. Their replacement, was No. 13 BYU, setting up a Top 25 matchup. ESPN’s College GameDay had already decided they would travel to Conway, South Carolina and have Dustin Johnson, Master’s winner, who was an All-American at Coastal Carolina as their guest picker. Here are Johnson’s picks along with Desmond Howard, David Pollack, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso’s winner for today’s games.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Alabama vs. Auburn in the Iron Bowl

College GameDay was in Tuscaloosa for Alabama-Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Although it’s a particularly weird rivalry weekend in college football with only some traditional rivalry games being played, the Iron Bowl between No. 1 Alabama and No. 22 Auburn is still happening Saturday.

The Crimson Tide are looking for revenge against the Tigers after losing, 48-45, in 2019, they’ll have to do it without coach Nick Saban, who recently tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms. (Saban previously tested positive for the coronavirus, but it was false.)

The Alabama-Auburn game is where ESPN’s College GameDay show was broadcasting from Saturday morning. But while most of the crew was at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Lee Corso continued to do the show from his home studio in Orlando — something he’s done all season.

And for the second time this season, Corso’s headgear pick was in favor of Alabama. The last time Corso went with the Crimson Tide for his marquee pick, they were playing Georgia in October, and Corso announced his decision from the top of a giant elephant. This time, Corso’s pick was a bit less extravagant — he said his neighbors weren’t too happy about it — but he still went with Alabama.

It’s the 34th time Corso’s picked Alabama, which is more than any other team, per ESPN.

Joe Namath was GameDay‘s guest picker, and, of course, the Alabama legend went with his alma mater too.

Corso also picked Colorado over San Diego State, Washington over Utah, No. 12 Indiana over Maryland, Purdue over Rutgers, No. 8 Northwestern over Michigan State, Michigan over Penn State, Mississippi State over Ole Miss and No. 5 Texas A&M over LSU.

GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State

College GameDay was in Norman for No. 14 Oklahoma State’s game at No. 18 Oklahoma.

ESPN’s College GameDay was in Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday for one of the biggest rivalry matchups in college football: No. 14 Oklahoma State at No. 18 Oklahoma. The Sooners enter as 7-point favorites for the Bedlam game.

But while Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis and David Pollack were broadcasting from Memorial Stadium, Corso continued to do the show from his home studio in Orlando, like he has all season. And his set — which was set up like Augusta National for the Masters last week — was filled with Sooners and Cowboys mascots, flags and giant football.

Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young, who played one season with Oklahoma, was GameDay‘s guest picker for Saturday’s marquee matchup, and obviously, he picked his school to win big. And Corso did too.

“I love picking Oklahoma so I can shoot the shotgun,” Corso said about his headgear pick, which usually includes firing some type of gun when selecting one of these teams to win. “But the last four times I picked Oklahoma, I lost. But the last four times I picked against Oklahoma State, I won. Give me that gun!”

With a cartoonish flair, Corso “fired” a shotgun from his set and a flag with the word “Bang” came out, while Howard in Norman fired another one from the main broadcast.

Corso also picked N.C. State over No. 21 Liberty, No. 15 Coastal Carolina over Appalachian State, Arkansas over LSU, Utah over No. 20 USC, No. 17 Iowa State over Kansas State, Michigan over Rutgers, No. 10 Wisconsin over No. 19 Northwestern, No. 3 Ohio State over No. 9 Indiana and UCF over No. 7 Cincinnati — after which the Bearcats’ mascot pushed the Knights’ mascot into Corso’s pool.

ESPN GameDay picks go hog wild for Arkansas over LSU

Nobody on the College GameDay crew is giving LSU a shot to knock off Arkansas this afternoon.

If you needed someone to explain to you just how different 2020 is from 2019, all you would need to be shown an image of the weekly picks from the ESPN College GameDay staff for this afternoon’s SEC battle between LSU and Arkansas.

Each member of the ESPN College GameDay crew picked Arkansas to top the Tigers this afternoon, a far cry from how things may have gone down in years past.

Former Oklahoma basketball player Trae Young was the first on the board to pick the Razorbacks. He was followed by GameDay analysts Desmond Howard, David Pollack, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso.

LSU is visiting Arkansas after having off the past two weeks due to a bye week and a postponement against Alabama. Arkansas had a slight concern about whether or not they would be able to play today due to COVID-19 issues, but the latest test results allowed Arkansas to move forward with the game.

The line swung in LSU’s favor leading up to the game. Maybe GameDay didn’t get the memo?

Masters: Jack Nicklaus joins College GameDay crew at Augusta National as guest picker

Jack Nicklaus was the guest picker during College GameDay’s broadcast from Augusta National. Here’s who Jack picked to win the Masters.

Who would be a better guest picker for College GameDay at Augusta National than Jack Nicklaus?

The six-time Masters champion joined the GameDay crew live via video to pick the winner’s of the week’s best college football games and the 2020 Masters.

When asked who he thought would be presented the famous green jacket on Sunday, Nicklaus was measured. He knows from experience a lot can happen in 36 holes.

“Well I think it’s too early to call, guys,” Nicklaus said Saturday afternoon. “I don’t think all the mail-in scores are in yet, but we’ve got 36 holes to go and I’m with you guys. I think Rahm and Justin Thomas are right there. I’d probably go with Justin only for his experience in winning majors.”

Nicklaus was at Augusta National on Thursday to hit the ceremonial first tee shot alongside Gary Player.

Lee Corso, in dramatic GameDay fashion, joined the crew from his home studio to pick a Masters winner with mascot-sized, realistic heads of Bryson DeChambeau and Tiger Woods to his right and left. Corso also wore a fake muscle suit, we can only assume to steer viewers toward thinking he was picking DeChambeau.

“Bryson was the favorite to win the Masters, but not so fast, slog guy,” Corso said. “(Tiger’s) playing great, he’s going to be tough. Not this year, Tiger, my friend. I’m going with my guy. He’s won four majors and he’s a Seminole. Brooks Koepka.”

Corso, a former Seminole, put on a Florida State football helmet and sat a black Nike golf hat on top, leaving fans to wonder how he would look like a massive Tiger or Bryson head instead.

Here’s who the GameDay crew picked to win the 2020 Masters:

  • Desmond Howard: Justin Thomas
  • Kirk Herbstreit: Jon Rahm
  • Jack Nicklaus: Justin Thomas
  • Lee Corso: Brooks Koepka

ESPN’s college football preview show traveled to Augusta National for the first time Saturday to broadcast from the par-3 course as the coronavirus pandemic prohibits college students and football fans from gathering during the broadcast on respective campuses.

Nicklaus also joined the crew in picking winners of the top college football games of the day. Here are his picks.

Nicklaus’ GameDay picks

  • Penn State vs. Nebraska: Penn State
  • Northwestern vs. Purdue: Northwestern
  • Michigan vs. Wisconsin: Wisconsin
  • TCU vs. West Virginia: TCU
  • USC vs. Arizona: USC
  • Arkansas vs. Florida: Florida
  • Notre Dame vs. Boston College: Notre Dame

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s picks for Week 11 games and the Masters

College GameDay set up camp at Augusta National for the Masters for this week’s show.

ESPN’s College GameDay set up camp in an unusually serene spot Saturday, broadcasting from the Masters Tournament, which is finally being played after originally being postponed from April because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And the GameDay crew was pretty pumped about doing the show at the iconic Georgia course.

Lee Corso, however, was broadcasting from his home studio in Orlando, like he has been all season. But his backdrop was still fabulously decorated as if he was sitting on the course at Augusta National, complete with a scoreboard, flag and giant, legendary photos of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in the background. Corso was even wearing a Masters tie.

And, perfect for the occasion, Nicklaus was also the guest picker of the week.

Because GameDay wasn’t on location highlighting a marquee matchup this week, Corso didn’t do a traditional headgear pick. He, and the rest of the show’s squad, still made plenty of picks for Saturday’s games, but when it came time for their final round of picks, they shared who they think will win the Masters.

Desmond Howard and Nicklaus picked Justin Thomas, Kirk Herbstreit went with Jon Rahm and, because he’s from Florida State, Corso went with Brooks Koepka, putting on an FSU helmet.

Corso also picked Nebraska over Penn State, Purdue over No. 23 Northwestern, No. 13 Wisconsin over Michigan, West Virginia over TCU, No. 20 USC over Arizona, No. 6 Florida over Arkansas, No. 2 Notre Dame over Boston College.

GameDay also obviously had multiple tributes and segments about the Masters and Augusta National.

ESPN’s College Game Day crew makes their picks from Augusta

Live from the Masters Par 3 course, ESPN’s College Game Day makes their picks for today’s slate of games.

The Masters Tournament had to move the dates back this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they’re making the most of it. The tournament now falls on a weekend of college football and the NFL, giving sports fans plenty to watch. ESPN’s College Game Day took advantage of the opportunity and they broadcasted from the Master’s Par 3 course, one hell of a site.

The Game Day group of Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso picked along with the “Golden Bear” Jack Nicklaus, winner of 6 Masters Tournaments and 73 career wins, good for 3rd all-time.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s pick for Clemson vs. Notre Dame

No. 1 Clemson takes on No. 4 Notre Dame in Week 10.

ESPN’s College GameDay was in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday ahead of No. 4 Notre Dame’s primetime home matchup against No. 1 Clemson (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC). Both teams enter the game undefeated and at the top of the ACC standings in the Fighting Irish’s first year in the conference.

And, like every week of the 2020 college football season, Lee Corso wasn’t with the GameDay crew. He joined the broadcast from his “home” studio in Orlando — compete with signs and mascots from around the country. But his headgear pick for the marquee matchup was hardly a surprise.

“It’s no secret I’m picking the Irish,” said Corso. “But it’s been 43 years since Notre Dame beat Clemson. 43 years! But it’s worth the wait. The Irish upset No. 1 Clemson and get their 23rd straight win at home.”

Former Notre Dame wire receiver, Chase Claypool, who’s now playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, obviously picked his Fighting Irish to win too.

Corso also picked Virginia Tech over No. 25 Liberty, No. 6 Cincinnati over Houston, No. 23 Michigan over No. 13 Indiana, Northwestern over Nebraska, Oklahoma State over Kansas State, West Virginia over No. 22 Texas, Oregon over Stanford, No. 20 USC over Arizona State and No. 8 Florida over No. 5 Georgia.

College GameDay notes ahead of Clemson-Notre Dame

Have you ever wondered about how Notre Dame has fared when Lee Corso and company have been in attendance?

It’s the game of the year in the ACC as No. 1 Clemson goes on the road to face No. 4 Notre Dame in a game that has massive implications for the College Football Playoff.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” will broadcast from Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday morning, marking the program’s first trip to South Bend since the season opener against Michigan in 2018 and their 10th trip to Notre Dame overall.

In the nine games ESPN has broadcast “College GameDay” from Notre Dame previously, the Irish are 5-4 overall, including a win over No. 1 Florida State the first time the show ever went remote, in November 1993 for that epic No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown.

Have you ever wondered how Notre Dame has fared when Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and company have been in attendance?  Find that out and plenty of other notes about “College GameDay’s” history with both Notre Dame and Clemson:

  • Lee Corso is 6-4 when picking Notre Dame with his headgear pick all-time and 10-5 when picking against the Irish
  • Corso has been right five of the last six times he has picked Notre Dame with his headgear pick
  • Corso has picked against only Oklahoma more (19) than he has against Notre Dame all-time (15)
  • Corso is 10-2 all-time when picking Clemson with his headgear pick, including being correct in his last nine predictions
  • Corso is 5-7 when picking against Clemson
  • This is Clemson’s 18th appearance on “College GameDay” since the start of the 2015 season, the most of any team in the country during that time
  • Clemson has not lost a regular-season game with “College GameDay” in attendance since their 2013 loss to Florida State.  They did however lose last year’s national championship game to LSU with GameDay there.
  • Saturday marks the 27th all-time game “College GameDay” has been in attendance for between a pair of top four teams. The home team has won 18 of the previous 26 games.

Previous game results Notre Dame has hosted “College GameDay” for:

Sept. 1, 2018: 24-17 win over No. 14 Michigan
Oct. 13, 2012: 20-13 OT win over No. 17 Stanford
Oct. 15, 2005: 34-31 loss to No. 1 USC
Sept. 9, 2000: 27-24 loss to No. 1 Nebraska
Sept. 5, 1998: 36-30 win over No. 5 Michigan
Sept. 28, 1996: 29-16 loss to No. 4 Ohio State
Oct. 21, 1995: 38-10 win over No. 5 USC
Sept. 10, 1994: 26-24 loss to No. 6 Michigan
Nov. 13, 1993: 31-24 win over No. 1 Florida State
