Colts vs. Texans: Updated injury report for Week 18

Here’s the updated injury reports for the Colts and Texans on Wednesday.

The Indianapolis Colts (9-7) and Houston Texans (9-7) released their updated injury reports Wednesday ahead of the Week 18 matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Here’s a look at the updated injury report for the Colts in Week 18:

Notes

  • The Colts returned to practice Wednesday after starting the week with a walkthrough.
  • C Ryan Kelly continues to miss practice and was seen wearing a walking boot. He still has a chance to play, but it’s something to keep in mind with one practice remaining this week.
  • Encouraging news that CB Kenny Moore II, G Quenton Nelson, RB Zack Moss and RT Braden Smith all practiced in full Wednesday.
  • The Colts will release the final injury report with designations Thursday afternoon.

Here’s a look at the updated injury report for the Texans in Week 18:

Notes

  • Starting LT Laremy Tunsil returned to practice Wednesday.
  • Houston could be without two of its three starting wide receivers with Noah Brown and Robert Woods listed as DNPs entering the final practice day.

Colts’ Ryan Kelly wearing walking boot at practice

Ryan Kelly was spotted wearing a walking boot at Wednesday’s practice.

Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly did not practice Wednesday and was seen wearing a walking boot on his left ankle/foot.

Kelly suffered an ankle injury during the Week 17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, but he was able to play every snap of the game so it isn’t clear how severe the injury is.

The Colts could simply have him wear the boot as a precaution throughout the week, but it’s certainly something to monitor considering the stakes at play in Week 18.

Kelly has returned to his Pro Bowl level of performance this season despite missing three games due to injuries, both of which were concussions.

Monitoring Kelly’s practice level for Thursday will give us a better idea of whether he can play against the Texans on Saturday night so there’s still a chance he will suit up.

If he can’t, the Colts will again lean on second-year undrafted center Wesley French, who has made three starts this season.

Colts promote WR Juwann Winfree to the active roster

Juwann Winfree was promoted to the active roster.

The Indianapolis Colts signed wide receiver Juwann Winfree to the active roster from the practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.

Winfree will be taking the spot of tight end Andrew Ogletree, who was placed on the Commissioner Exempt List last weekend following an arrest for domestic battery.

While Ogletree is essentially on paid leave, Winfree will be taking his spot as the No. 5 wide receiver.

Winfree had a solid preseason, but has played only 21 snaps on offense this season. He’s spent much of the campaign on the practice squad and has had a role on special teams when he’s active on gamedays.

Also, the Colts signed tight end Eric Tomlinson to the practice squad.

Colts’ Michael Pittman Jr. expected to play vs. Raiders

Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to play against the Raiders.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to play against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Pittman Jr. was listed as questionable on the final Week 17 injury report for the Colts with concussion and shoulder injuries. He cleared through the protocol for the second week in a row but was still listed as questionable.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Sunday morning, Pittman Jr. is good to go for the matchup against the Raiders.

After sustaining a concussion following a nasty hit from Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee in Week 15, Pittman Jr. progresses through the protocol and was cleared for the following week.

However, he developed a setback with symptoms when the team landed in Atlanta for the Week 16 game and was ruled out despite having cleared through the protocol.

Pittman Jr. then had to restart the entire process over again this week. He progressed through the protocol quickly and was able to log two full practices without a red non-contact jersey.

The Colts offense struggled immensely without Pittman Jr. in the lineup last week so this is a huge bump for their chances to take a crucial win in the middle of the playoff hunt.

McGrone failed to practice all week due to an illness but was still listed as questionable on the final injury report.

McGrone has appeared in 12 games (no starts) this season and has mostly played a role on special teams. He’s logged 135 special teams snaps this season, good for 41% of the snaps.

  • WR Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to play after clearing the concussion protocol but considering what happened last week, this is still a situation to monitor.
  • RT Braden Smith is expected to make his return from a three-game absence (really four) after practicing in full all week. Still, he’s listed as questionable.
