In the NBA, winners get immortalized over anyone else, pretty much like in every other sport in existence.

As such, we decided to look at the NBA players with the best winning percentage in league history amongst players with at least 250 games under their belts.

Magic Johnson reigns supreme while Sam Hauser has surprisingly jumped to the No. 2 spot thanks to the dominance of the Boston Celtics led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Legendary NBA writer Jack McCallum: Michael Jordan kind of needed Sports Illustrated. LeBron doesn’t need anybody

Hall of Fame basketball writer Jack McCallum started covering the NBA in 1981, just as the Magic Johnson, Larry Bird rivalry was taking shape. After authoring 12 books, including the bestseller Dream Team, and 30-plus years at Sports Illustrated, McCallum can be regarded as one of the most impactful basketball writers ever.

The renowned sportswriter spoke with HoopsHype about covering the league as its popularity was gaining steam, following the Mike D’Antoni Suns for an entire season, how David Stern had some similarities with Donald Trump, and more.

The peak GOATs: Ranking the NBA’s best at their best

HoopsHype ranks 25 of the NBA’s GOATS in order of best five-year peaks, as judged by Global Rating and a panel of voters.

After LeBron James broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record, some naysayers started calling him the Longevity GOAT as a way to avoid calling him the actual GOAT.

Although James, according to us, has by now done enough to be considered the NBA’s GOAT, we still wanted to look at the best five-year peaks in NBA history. (Spoiler alert: James ranks very high in this exercise.)

To determine when exactly each player’s peak took place, we used our own Global Rating Metric and went by each player’s best five continuous seasons. After that, we asked a panel of our writers and editors to vote on which five-year peaks by NBA legends were the best.

No. 1 might be a surprise considering who we just said we have as our outlet’s GOAT, though maybe not a surprise to everyone.

On Player of the Week awards, LeBron James is the GOAT by far

Since Julius Erving won the first NBA Player of the Week award back in 1979, many basketball greats have collected a huge number of weekly accolades from the league. But really, it’s not that close at No. 1. In his 22 seasons as a pro, LeBron James …

Since Julius Erving won the first NBA Player of the Week award back in 1979, many basketball greats have collected a huge number of weekly accolades from the league. But really, it’s not that close at No. 1.

In his 22 seasons as a pro, LeBron James has won the award an NBA record 69 times – which is more than No. 2 and No. 3 in the list combined. The league started naming one Player of the Week for each conference in 2001-02, which helps LeBron here. Then again, his numbers are staggering.

There aren’t many stars who can boast about besting Michael Jordan, widely regarded as the greatest of all time by most basketball fans. Though MJ gave everybody the business, a bunch of NBA luminaries managed to beat him more often than not during his early days with the weak Chicago Bulls roster in the mid-80s or when he donned the Washington Wizards jersey.

Few accomplished that when MJ and his team were at the peak of their powers – most notably a towering center from the Western Conference.

Here’s a list of stars who retired with a winning record against the GOAT:

Boston Celtics icon Larry Bird was an ELITE passer

The Hick From French Lick was best known for his scoring, but Bird could find the open man like few have ever been able to.

Boston Celtics icon Larry Bird is perhaps best known for countless ways he could hang points on an opposing team. He would find ways to score that sometimes baffled his defenders, coupled with eviscerating trash talk that broke their spirits at the same time.

But the Hick From French Lick could also move the rock on an elite level and was not selfish when he saw an open man with an easier shot than he had at any given moment. All the way back to his days at Indiana State in college, Larry Legend was already using his crafty court vision to lift his teammates.

Renowned NBA draft analyst Ben Pfeiffer sat down and broke down some of Bird’s passing film for a recent short.

Rare interview with Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird from 1986

This interview had Bird reflecting on his entry into the NBA and his early years with the Celtics organization, among a number of topics.

Hall of Fame Boston Celtics small forward Larry Bird typically kept to himself as a player. And while he didn’t begrudge the press interviews on camera, there are not many of them floating around on video for us to see these days.

From the 1985-86 season, the last title campaign of The Hick From French Lick’s career, the folks over at the CLNS Media “History and Legends” YouTube channel have dusted off an especially interesting one. It has Bird reflecting on his entry into the NBA and his early years with the Celtics organization, among a number of topics.

Larry Legend managed to fill up almost six minutes of interview time in the clip embedded below; to get your fix of Boston basketball for the day, be sure to take a look at what Bird had to say for yourself.
