Angel Hernandez bizarrely ejected Lance Lynn twice (!) … in a spring training game

Angel Hernandez is already in midseason form after this bizarre spring training ejection.

I have to say it: I’ve never seen this before, and of course it would involve Angel Hernandez, the much-criticized umpire who has missed strike calls and botched all sorts of calls over his career.

Here’s what happened on Friday: Lance Lynn was making his first start in spring training for the St. Louis Cardinals, when the veteran hurler was ejected in the third inning. Per reporter John Denton, Lynn said the two exchanged words over a questionable call and when Lynn pointed out the next pitch was a strike, he got tossed. Again: it’s spring training!

But it got weirder from there. Lynn needed to get some more work in, so he headed to the bullpen. But Hernandez didn’t apparently like that and had Lynn stopped and removed from the bullpen!

There’s video, too:

So weird!

Lance Lynn provided an elite made-up explanation for his dugout argument with 3B coach Joe McEwing

Elite cover story.

The Chicago White Sox have been among the most disappointing teams in the early going of the MLB season, and even when they manage to win, they can’t escape controversy.

We have a “Rat vs. Raccoon” situation all over again.

Footage from Monday’s game between the White Sox and Tigers showed pitcher Lance Lynn getting into a heated argument with third base coach Joe McEwing. It was unclear what the whole spat was about, and Lynn’s explanation didn’t exactly clear up the situation. According to Lynn, the two were having a lively discussion about filets and ribeyes.

Yeah, totally … nothing to see here.

The response was awfully reminiscent of the time Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil ran into the tunnel and would later say it was about a rat vs. raccoon. They weren’t going to reveal the true details of the altercation, and Lynn wasn’t going to disclose what really happened there either.

MLB fans did appreciate the original response though — even if it was completely made up.

Why White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn tossed his belt at an umpire and got ejected for it

Who throws a belt? Honestly!

Who throws a belt? Honestly!

The answer is Lance Lynn.

The Chicago White Sox ace who still leads the American League in ERA was four innings into his start on Wednesday against the Oakland A’s. But then he tossed the thing that holds up his pants at an umpire and got the hook from said ump.

Seriously, that happened. The Sox went on to win the game 3-2, but that’s burying the lede here — why would Lynn throw a belt at an umpire??

There’s some kind of explanation for it from Lynn, so let’s run through this whole incident and the aftermath:
