Tennessee defeated Auburn, 88-54, Sunday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

No. 20 Tennessee (15-6, 9-4 SEC) defeated Auburn, 88-54, Sunday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The contest concluded the Lady Vols’ 2020-21 regular season.

Tennessee will have a double-BYE in the SEC Tournament. The Lady Vols return to action Friday at 8:30 p.m. EST against an opponent to be determined.

Following the win against Auburn, Lady Vols’ head coach Kellie Harper met with media to recap her team’s performance. Below is a transcript provided by the University of Tennessee.

Opening Statement:
“I told our team in the locker room after the game that I was really proud of them for this win, but I was also really proud of them this week. I thought we had a great week. I thought we had great focus, great practices, their mindset was exactly where it needed to be, and we came out and took care of business. I’m glad that we were able to do that on Senior Day, and our seniors got to go out on a really high note. I’m proud of this team.”

Lady Vols end regular season with win over Auburn

Tennessee’s women’s basketball team closed out its regular season on a high note Sunday.

The No. 20 Lady Vols clinched a No. 3 seed in the upcoming Southeastern Conference Tournament with a dominant, 88-54, victory over Auburn at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee (15-6, 9-4 SEC) will now have a double-BYE in the tournament and will return to action Friday at 8:30 p.m. EST against an opponent to be determined.

Against the Tigers (5-18, 0-15), five UT players posted double figures in the scoring column.

The Lady Vols held Auburn to eight points over the first 10 minutes and opened a 31-21 advantage by halftime.

Two UT players had double-doubles. Guard Jordan Horston narrowly missed pulling off the feat as she finished with 12 points and nine assists.

Rennia Davis led the Lady Vols with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kasi Kushkiuah scored 19 points and recorded eight rebounds.

Rae Burrell scored 14 points, while Tamari Key scored 10 and grabbed 10 rebounds for Tennessee, which led 56-37 after three quarters.

Lady Vols’ Samantha Bender pitches no-hitter

Recapping UT’s softball wins over Central Michigan and Northern Kentucky Sunday.

Redshirt junior pitcher Samantha Bender etched her name into the history of Tennessee’s softball program Sunday afternoon.

Bender threw a no-hitter in the No. 23 Lady Vols’ 8-0 five-inning victory over Northern Kentucky at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

It was Tennessee’s first solo no-hitter since 2016 and Bender’s first victory of the 2021 season.

The Norse (0-4) only had one player reach base as Bender hit Northern Kentucky’s Jenna O’Hair.

Bender pitched five innings and recorded two strikeouts.

Offensively, Amanda Ayala had a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. She would also score on a wild pitch in the third after Rylie West had an RBI groundout in the frame.

Ivy Davis capped the five-run third with a three-run homer to make the score 6-0.

Madison Webber ended things with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.

The win over the Norse was the second shutout for the UT pitching staff.

Tennessee (12-1) opened the day with a 3-0 win over Central Michigan.

In that contest, Ashley Rogers gave up two hits over seven innings and fanned 18 Chippewas (1-2).

At the plate, West and Kaitlin Parsons had RBI singles in the bottom of the second and Cailin Hannon doubled and stole home in the sixth. That was one of six stolen bases in the contest for Tennessee.

Lady Vols notch shutout win over Central Michigan

Recapping Lady Vols 9-0 win over Central Michigan Saturday.

After being held at bay for two innings Saturday afternoon, the Tennessee softball team scored runs in bunches.

The No. 23 Lady Vols (10-1) saw their bats stifled early, but their offense came to life with a vengeance in a 9-0 five-inning victory over Central Michigan at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Ally Shipman provided a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to culminate a three-run frame.

The Lady Vols started its scoring in the third inning when Cailin Hannon’s two-run single plated Kiki Milloy and Chelsea Seggern, making it 2-0.

Seggern had a two-run single, extending Tennessee’s advantage to 4-0 in the fourth inning, before Hannon drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Madison Webber also drew a bases-loaded free pass in the frame to make it 6-0.

In the fifth, Ivy Davis drove in a run when she grounded out, setting the stage for Shipman’s round-tripper that ended things early.

In the circle, Callie Turner started against the Chippewas (1-1). Turner picked up her second win of the season as she went four innings. She surrendered four hits, one walk and recorded one strikeout.

Samantha Bender hurled one inning of scoreless relief. She gave up one hit en route to earning her second save of the campaign.

Recapping Lady Vols’ win over UT Martin Thursday

An eight-run fourth inning helped the Tennessee softball team overcome an early deficit and make short work of UT Martin Thursday night at Sherri Lee Parker Stadium.

No. 23 Tennessee defeated the Sky Hawks, 10-1, in five innings, however it was UT Martin that struck first as Kaitlyn Kelley hit a solo home run to give the Sky Hawks (5-2) a 1-0 lead.

It would not take the Lady Vols long to answer as Cailin Hannon hit an RBI triple that plated Kiki Milloy with the tying run.

In the third inning, Amanda Ayala homered to give UT (9-1) a 2-1 advantage.

Ayala added a two-run shot in the fourth to help the Lady Vols blow things open. Milloy also had a 2-1 blast in the frame. Madison Webber drove in another run with a sacrifice fly and Ally Shipman had a two-run single.

In the circle, Ashley Rogers was dominant after surrendering Kelley’s homer.

She tossed a complete game, surrendering one run and three hits, while striking out six.

Late surge nets comeback win for Lady Vols at Missouri

Recapping UT’s win over Missouri Thursday.

The University of Tennessee women’s basketball team came back to notch a Southeastern Conference road victory Thursday night.

A fourth-quarter surge propelled the No. 20 Lady Vols to a 78-73 victory over Missouri at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Tennessee (14-6, 8-4 SEC) received a huge late boost from senior Rennia Davis. Davis scored 20 of her game-high 26 points during the final frame and keyed a 23-13 run over the final 10 minutes of the contest. She also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists in the game.

The Tigers (8-10, 4-9) had a 36-34 lead at halftime. They would go on to extend that advantage, 60-55, by the end of the third stanza.

Rae Burrell had another solid outing for UT as she scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Jordan Horston had nine points and six rebounds for the Lady Vols, who trailed 18-17 at the end of the opening frame.

Tamari Key chipped in with eight points and rebounds. Jordan Walker scored five points and grabbed 10 boards to lead Tennessee in rebounding.

Ashley Rogers hurls one-hitter as Lady Vols down Illinois State

Junior pitcher Ashley Rogers dominant in one-hitter for Lady Vols.

Junior pitcher Ashley Rogers posted a dominant performance in the circle Wednesday afternoon as she tossed a one-hit shutout in Tennessee’s 3-0 victory over Illinois State.

Rogers pitched a complete game, allowing one hit to the Redbirds (1-2) at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Rogers (4-1) had 17 strikeouts and one walk. Her 17 strikeouts represent a tie for the second most in a game during the early stages of the 2021 season.

She also had a no-hitter through five innings for the No. 24 Lady Vols (8-1) before Illinois State second baseman Emme Olson produced a hit.

Tennessee scored in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Ivy Davis went 2-for-2. She drove in a run and scored another.

Amanda Ayala had a pair of hits, including a double. Kiki Milloy added a home run for Tennessee.

UT’s Kaitlin Parsons went 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.

Lady Vols sweep Ohio on the diamond

Tennessee sweeps Bobcats Monday in softball.

Tennessee’s softball team swept a doubleheader against Ohio University Monday afternoon.

The Lady Vols, who split a twin bill Sunday against Miami (OH), knocked off the Bobcats 7-1 in the first game and 11-2 in five innings during the nightcap at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

In the opener, Amanda Ayala, Chelsea Seggern, Kiki Milloy and Cailin Hannon all hit home runs for Tennessee. Ivy Davis had a two-run double for the Lady Vols, who broke things open with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.

UT (5-1) made short work of the Bobcats (0-2) in an 11-2 victory during the second game.

Milloy and Hannon both homered in the contest which went five innings.

Ayala, Seggern, Ivy Davis and Madison Webber all doubled for rhe Lady Vols.

Lady Vols split doubleheader against Miami

Lady Vols split doubleheader with Miami (OH).

It was an afternoon of mixed results for Tennessee’s softball team Sunday as the Lady Vols split a doubleheader with Miami (OH) at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

UT (5-1) took the opener over the RedHawks, 7-3, before Miami won the nightcap 2-0.

In the opener Sunday, the Lady Vols had four extra-base hits as Cailin Hannon clubbed a two-run homer, while Amanda Ayala, Chelsea Seggern and Madison Webber each had doubles.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hannon clubbed a two-run round-tripper and Webber drove in two runs with a double to help the Lady Vols overcome a 5-3 deficit against Miami.

In the nightcap, the RedHawks’ Courtney Vierstra stifled Tennessee’s offense, holding the Lady Vols to three hits.

Ivy Davis had a double for UT, while Webber and Kaitlin Parsons each singled.

In the circle for the Lady Vols, Ashley Rogers (3-1) took the loss despite hurling a complete game. She gave up two runs, five hits, three walks and six strikeouts.
