Tennessee redshirt sophomore guard Talaysia Cooper was named SEC Player of the Week and United States Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week.
She averaged 25.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game in Tennessee’s victories over Middle Tennessee State and Liberty. Cooper recorded a .556 field goal percentage, a .333 three-point field goal percentage and a 100 percent free throw percentage.
She recorded her first collegiate double-double against the Blue Raiders, totaling 18 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in Tennessee’s, 89-75, win. Cooper also totaled four assists, four steals and one block.
The 6-foot guard totaled 33 points and nine rebounds in a, 109-93, victory against Liberty.
Tennessee (4-0) defeated Liberty (2-2), 109-93, Saturday at Food City Center.
The Lady Vols led, 64-43, at halftime after opening a, 55-25, lead midway through the second quarter.
Talaysia Cooper led Tennessee with 33 points and was one of four Lady Vols to score 10-plus points in the contest. She also totaled nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Ruby Whitehorn recorded 13 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block for the Lady Vols, who have scored 89 or more points in their first four games for the first time in program history.
Sara Puckett had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Jewel Spear finished with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Ruby Whitehorn led Tennessee in scoring with 18 points. She also led the Lady Vols in rebounds with 14 (eight offensive, six defensive).
Tennessee forced 31 UT Martin turnovers and scored 48 points off turnovers. The Lady Vols also totaled 50 bench points, 42 points in the paint, 32 second chance points and 29 fast break points.

“Happy to get game one done,” Caldwell said. “Wasn’t the prettiest. I thought we had some really good spots where we looked great, exactly how we should look for most of the game, and then I think we had some moments where we looked like a brand new team.
“So just going forward, trying to work those things out. We have another tough opponent and a quick turnaround, so we have a big day tomorrow.”

Tennessee (1-0) opened its 2024-25 women’s basketball season on Tuesday at Food City Center. The Lady Vols defeated Samford, 101-53.
Tuesday’s contest also marked the beginning of the Kim Caldwell era at Tennessee. She is the fourth Tennessee women’s basketball head coach during the NCAA era, joining Pat Summitt, Holly Warlick and Kellie Harper.
Junior forward Zee Spearman led Tennessee with 25 points against Samford. Jewel Spear, Ruby Whitehorn, Samara Spencer and Talaysia Cooper also scored 10-plus points for the Lady Vols.
Tennessee totaled 40 bench points, 54 points in the paint, 50 points off turnovers, 31 second chance points and 36 fast break points.
9,515 were in attendance at Food City Center.

Caldwell coached on the Lady Vols’ sideline for the first time on Thursday. Tennessee defeated Carson-Newman, 135-49, in an exhibition contest at Food City Center.
“It was a good test for us to play in the arena, in front of the fans,” Caldwell said. “It was really nice to play against somebody other than ourselves. We appreciate Carson-Newman for coming. That that’s a very good Division II team and they’re going to have a good year and we’re going to be rooting for them all the way.”
The Lady Vols also scored 52 points off 43 Carson-Newman turnovers.
“It’s big,” Caldwell said. “It’s everything we want. It’s why we press.”
