Lady Vols defeat Tulsa in West Palm Beach Classic to remain undefeated

Lady Vols improve to 11-0 with a victory over Tulsa on Saturday in the West Palm Beach Classic.

No. 16 Tennessee (11-0) defeated Tulsa (6-6), 102-61, Saturday in the West Palm Beach Classic at Rubin Arena in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Lady Vols led, 63-31, at halftime after outscoring the Golden Hurricane, 41-11, in the second quarter.

Sara Puckett totaled 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists for Tennessee. She was one of five Lady Vols to score 10-plus points in the contest.

Jewel Spear scored 16 points, while Zee Spearman recorded 15 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Vols, who scored 100 or more points for the fifth time this season.

Ruby Whitehorn totaled 13 points and five rebounds, while Talaysia Cooper finished with 13 points.

Tennessee forced 23 turnovers against Tulsa.

Delanie Crawford led the Golden Hurricane with 17 points.

Lady Vols improve to 10-0 with victory over Richmond in West Palm Beach, Florida.

No. 16 Tennessee (10-0) defeated Richmond (9-3), 92-67, Friday at the West Palm Beach Classic at Rubin Arena in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Lady Vols led, 47-39, at halftime.

Tennessee’s Talaysia Cooper led all scorers with 24 points. She scored 15 points in the third quarter.

Ruby Whitehorn totaled 15 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. She scored 10 points in the first half. Samara Spencer recorded 11 points, six assists and three rebounds, while Jewel Spear and Zee Spearman scored eight points.

Rachel Ullstrom totaled 19 points and five rebounds for the Spiders. Maggie Doogan recorded 14 points six rebounds and six assists, while Ally Sweeney posted 13 points, five assists and one rebound.

Jewel Spear and Zee Spearman led the Lady Vols in scoring with 18 points. Talaysia Cooper (12), Tess Darby (12), Samara Spencer (12) and Ruby Whitehorn (10) also scored 10-plus points for Tennessee.

Spearman (12) and Cooper (11) were Tennessee’s leading rebounders. The duo also finished with the most assists, recording six each.

10 Lady Vol players appeared in the game at Memphis.

Tennessee totaled 26 bench points, 38 points in the paint, 20 points off turnovers, 23 second chance points and 10 fast break points.

The Lady Vols will next play Richmond on Friday in the West Palm Beach Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. EST..

Joe Kirt announces Tennessee soccer signees

Lady Vols sign three soccer transfers from the SEC.

Tennessee soccer head coach Joe Kirt announced a trio of Lady Vol forward signees on Wednesday.

The Lady Vols signed Shae O’Rourke, Anaiyah Robinson and Kylee Simmons.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Kylee, Shae and Anaiyah to Rocky Top this spring,” Kirt said. “Each are proven goal-scorers and All-Conference recipients in our league who will bolster a talented group of returners.

“Individually, they bring their own attacking personality on the ball and in the box, creating quality scoring opportunities for both themselves and their teammates. Each will have a significant role in our program as we expect to bring another SEC championship back to Knoxville!”

O’Rourke enters her redshirt junior season after playing at Texas A&M and South Carolina. She was sidelined in 2024 due to injury with the Aggies. O’Rourke totaled 11 goals and six assists in two seasons at South Carolina.

Robinson appeared in 21 games, including 12 starts, as a freshman at Arkansas in 2024. She recorded 11 goals and one assist for the Razorbacks.

Simmons transferred to Tennessee after playing three seasons at Missouri. She totaled 16 goals and eight assists in 45 games for the Tigers.

Lady Vols’ all time basketball results against Memphis

All time results in the basketball series between the Lady Vols and Memphis.

No. 16 Tennessee (8-0) will play Memphis (2-7) on Wednesday at FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.

Tipoff between the Lady Vols and Tigers is slated for 8:30 p.m. EST and ESPNEWS will televise the in-state contest.

Wednesday will mark the 29th meeting between the two in-state opponents. Tennessee leads the all time series, 27-1, and has won 20 consecutive games in the series dating to 1974.

Memphis recorded its lone victory during the 1978-79 season, defeating the Lady Vols, 79-75, in Memphis. The reams last played during the 2023-24 season in Knoxville. The Lady Vols won, 84-74.

The two in-state opponents have also played games in Cookeville, Martin and Johnson City, Tennessee.

No. 18 Tennessee (8-0) defeated North Carolina Central (0-12), 139-59, on Saturday at Food City Center. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches poll.

The Lady Vols remain undefeated in Kim Caldwell’s first season as head coach.

Samara Spencer led Tennessee in scoring with 33 points. She converted 10-of-15 field goal attempts, 9-of-13 three-point attempts and 4-of-7 free throw attempts.

Talaysia Cooper and Sara Puckett led the Lady Vols in rebounding with six each. Spencer also led Tennessee in assists (10).

Tennessee totaled 49 bench points, 34 points in the paint, 73 points off turnovers, 25 second chance points and 34 fast break points.

The Lady Vols set a single-game program and SEC record for points in game. Tennessee also set a NCAA record for three-point field goals in a game (30). The Lady Vols recorded the most points scored during a half in program history (69).

Lady Vols named USBWA Team of the Week

Tennessee named USBA Women’s Basketball Team of the Week after wins over Florida State and Iowa.

Tennessee’s women’s basketball team was named United States Basketball Writers Association Women’s Team of the Week when the organization announced its weekly awards.

The Lady Vols defeated Florida State, 79-77, at Food City Center on Dec. 4.

Tennessee also defeated No. 20 Iowa, 78-68, on Saturday in the Shark Beauty Women’s Champions Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Tennessee’s win versus Iowa was Kim Caldwell’s first victory over a ranked opponent as the Lady Vols’ head coach.

The Lady Vols rank No. 3 in the nation in scoring offense. Tennessee is also ranked second in steals per game, turnover margin and turnovers forced per game. Tennessee is also the nation’s top offensive rebounding team.

Talaysia Cooper named TSWA Player of the Week

Lady Vols’ guard earns weekly award from Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

Lady Vols’ basketball player Talaysia Cooper was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Cooper, a South Carolina transfer and redshirt sophomore guard, totaled 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists in Tennessee’s, 79-77, victory against Florida State on Dec. 4 at Food City Center.

Against the Seminoles, she converted 10-of-17 field goal attempts, 1-of-4 three-point attempts and 1-of-2 free throw attempts.

Cooper scored 20-plus points in her last four games and is averaging 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game this season.

In Tennessee’s, 78-68, victory against Iowa, Cooper recorded 23 points, six rebounds and three assists. She converted 10-of-22 field goal attempts and 3-of-3 free throw attempts.

Georgia Tech eliminates Tennessee from NCAA Tournament.

Georgia Tech (21-9) defeated Tennessee (15-12), 25-18, 13-25, 32-30, 26-28, 15-12, in the first-round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament at Wisconsin Field House in Madison, Wisconsin.

Nina Cajic led the Lady Vols with 27 kills, 11 digs, six blocks, two aces and two assists. She also recorded a .338 hitting percentage. Paityn Chapman totaled 13 kills, four blocks and one dig.

Hayden Kubik totaled 11 digs and nine kills, while Keondreya Granberry recorded six kills, three blocks and three digs.

Klaudia Pawlik finished with a match-high eight blocks and added five kills.

Redshirt sophomore Caroline Kerr was the Lady Vols’ leading passer, recording a career-high 57 assists. She also recorded 13 digs, four kills and two blocks.
