Notre Dame Football: Kyle Hamilton Named Freshman All-American (Again)

Despite getting credited with only one start this season Hamilton finished the year with four interceptions while one was returned for a touchdown.  He was responsible for six more pass breakups and 39 tackles on the year.

The awards piled up quickly this season for Kyle Hamilton.  So many in fact that I think we can lose the idea of him being a “future star” because even in a very experienced and good defensive backfield, he’s more than just a freshman who got snaps.  He was an extremely trust-worthy play-maker his freshman year who simply didn’t allow big plays when thrown at.

He is already a star.

As a result The Athletic named Hamilton to their Freshman All-American Team on Friday.

Despite getting credited with only one start this season Hamilton finished the year with four interceptions while one was returned for a touchdown.  He was responsible for six more pass breakups and 39 tackles on the year.

As Brady Quinn said earlier this year, enjoy Kyle Hamilton while you can Irish fans because it appears he’ll be more than ready for the NFL two years from now.

Pro Football Focus also named Hamilton to their freshman All-American Team last week.

Notre Dame Football: Kyle Hamilton Named Freshman All-American

It didn’t take long at all for Kyle Hamilton to make his presence known at Notre Dame this year as fall camp was pretty much just a daily breakdown of how many interceptions the freshman from Atlanta had that particular afternoon.

It didn’t take long for him to make an impact on the gamefield either, getting substancial playing time as a true-freshman in the opener against Louisville before returning his first career college interception for a touchdown a week later against New Mexico.

The season would see him pull down four interceptions in total and have pretty much an entire defensive gameplan built around him in October’s win over USC.

On Friday Pro Football Focus named their Freshman All-American Team and named Hamilton their first-team safety.

Notre Dame landed the best coverage safety in the entire 2019 recruiting class. Hamilton recorded a near-elite 89.7 coverage grade in his true freshman season, allowing just seven passes to be completed on 22 targets. Those seven went for 74 yards and no touchdowns. However, the Fighting Irish safety stole possession four times by way of interceptions, and he forced another five pass breakups for a passer rating of 3.0 when targeted, best among all defenders in the nation with at least 15 targets.

High praise for a star in the making at Notre Dame.

The win was Notre Dame’s first at Stanford since 2007 and Brian Kelly’s first victory there as head coach.

Notre Dame Football: Hamilton Earns National Honors Again

Another week has come and gone and more hardware is headed towards freshman safety Kyle Hamilton.

Another week has come and gone and more hardware is headed towards freshman safety Kyle Hamilton.

After recording his fourth interception of the season and three tackles versus Boston College, Hamilton was named to the Pro Football Focus College Football Week 13 Eckrich Team of the Week.

Pro Football Focus summed up Hamilton’s week with the following:

The Fighting Irish have a bright future with Hamilton roaming the backend of their defense. He recorded four total tackles against bost College and saw three passes come his way as the primary coverage defender. Allowing just one reception for seven yards, Hamilton broke up another and intercepted the third pass his way to see just a 2.8 passer rating into his coverage.

Hamilton’s four interceptions are tied for the most by any freshman in the nation, unfortunately that target he allowed after his interception evened up his totals for the year between personal interceptions and receptions allowed – an absurd stat to consider.

With Isaiah Pryor committed to play in the secondary next year you can’t help but feel good about the future of Notre Dame’s secondary as Hamilton appears to be one of the schools all-time greats in the making.

No. 16 Notre Dame Blasts Boston College: 5 Instant Thoughts

Hamilton went from a relative-unknown as a recruit as little as 14 or so months ago.  By the time he actually enrolled in school some outlets had him as Notre Dame’s highest ranked recruit in the class and his instant-impact isn’t going unnoticed.

Although the first half was closer than most would like, the final score was a rout as No. 16 Notre Dame improved to 9-2 on the season as they beat up Boston College, 40-7, as four scores, three being field goals in the first half turned into four scores with three being touchdowns instead in the second.

The win completes a second-straight undefeated season at Notre Dame Stadium and gives the Irish a great chance at their third 10-win season in a row, something that hasn’t been done since 1991-93.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl announced Tuesday night that senior-captain, safety Jalen Elliott will participate in the 2020 Senior Bowl at the conclusion of this college football season.

Elliott has started all nine games this season and recorded 35 tackles along the way while also picking off a pass against New Mexico and Bowling Green, both.  He also intercepted four passes during Notre Dame’s 12-0 regular season in 2018.

The Lloyd C. Bird High School (Virginia) product was recruited as a three-star safety in the 2016 class and has appeared in all 47 Notre Dame games since stepping foot on campus for the first time as a student-athlete back in 2016.

He will undoubtedly be missed next year, although Kyle Hamilton’s start and Isaiah Pryor’s recent commitment makes you feel pretty good about where the safety position will be headed into 2020.
