Steelers defense: Historic start through three weeks of football

The 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense is off to a historic start and is drawing comparisons to the legendary Steel Curtain.

The 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers‘ defense is off to an incredible and historic pace through three weeks of football, allowing only 26 points against the Falcons, Broncos, and Chargers.  The defense has allowed 10 or fewer points in each of the first three regular season games, and the last time a Steelers’ defense accomplished such a feat was during the ‘Steel Curtain’ era in 1973.

I would be remiss to think that this defense is comparable to such a terrifying and legendary unit, right?  Kyle Brandt, co-host of Good Morning Football on the NFL Network, doesn’t believe it to be so far-fetched, coining this year’s unit as “historic”.

Steelers’ fans believed the defense would be better than the offense, but not many could have predicted the incredible start defensively to the season. This current Pittsburgh unit also seems to have “11 boogie men” playing lights out defense, and they look to keep the momentum going as they head into Indianapolis to take on the 1-2 Colts, September 29th at 1:00 PM EST.

GMFB’s Kyle Brandt: Bills’ Josh Allen is the ‘player of mass destruction’ (video)

GMFB’s Kyle Brandt: Bills’ Josh Allen is the ‘player of mass destruction’ (video)

The Buffalo Bills have once again sold host of NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” Kyle Brandt on their prowess.

Following Buffalo’s 31-10 dismantling of the Miami Dolphins in Week 2, Brandt was more than impressed.

Discussing how the Bills were written off by many at the start of the 2024 season, Brandt went on to dust off a new nickname for quarterback Josh Allen.

“They don’t need a weapon–They have the player of mass destruction,” Brandt said of Allen.

Not bad.

Commanders RB wins ‘Angry Runs’ but it’s not who you think

The Commanders win their first “Angry Runs” scepter.

For the first time, a Washington Commander running back has won the “Angry Runs” scepter from “Good Morning Football.” It’s just not who you think.

On Tuesday morning, Kyle Brandt revealed the latest nominees for the Week 2 edition of “Angry Runs:”

  • Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson
  • Ravens TE Derrick Henry
  • Commanders RB Austin Ekeler

Henry is a regular winner of “Angry Runs.” The future Hall of Famer has won the award six times, so other finalists are always an underdog when going up against Henry.

Heading into Week 2, the Commanders were the only team not to win a scepter. That changed Tuesday when Brandt named Ekeler as the winner.

Ekeler won the award for this play, a 27-yard-catch-and-run in the fourth quarter of Washington’s 21-18 win over the New York Giants.

Ekeler’s catch and run put the Commanders in position to tie the game. Check out what he did to both Giants’ defenders at the end of the play.

Ekeler finished the game with eight carries for 38 yards and three receptions for 47 yards.

We believed Brian Robinson Jr. would be dominated for “Angry Runs” this week after his 133-yard performance, specifically this run.

Robinson has been a finalist multiple times. Maybe this will be his year.

Analyst from NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football,” Kyle Brandt wanted something specific in his MVP selection for the 2024 NFL season.

Brandt explained he thinks this player should have  a “story or saga” attached to them.

Based on the first few years of his career plus all the departures his team has had this offseason, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was his selection.

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt teases ‘Angry Runs’ project with Mike Alstott

It looks like the NFL Network on-air talent has something special cooking with the “A-Train”

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt has become famous for his high-energy rants, the best of which come during his “Angry Runs” segments, in which he highlights the most punishing runs of the week during the season.

He’s also been vocal in the past about his love for one of the biggest angry run factories in NFL history, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Mike Alstott.

Well, it looks like Brandt has a little something special he’s cooking up this offseason for anyone who loves what the “A-Train” brought to the table back in his prime for the Bucs.

Check this out:

Oh, yeah. This is gonna be good.

WATCH: Browns superfan has hilarious interaction with NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt

One fan made the most out of his 15 minutes of fame

During pregame warmups before their victory over the Chicago Bears, one Cleveland Browns fan got to talk with tight end David Njoku. He was also shirtless and had written “Angry Runs” on his body and took photos with the tight end. After the game, the video had been sent to Kyle Brandt who took to social media to ask Browns fans to connect him with the young man.

Thanks to Browns fans and some help from Njoku, the fan was identified and joined Brandt on Good Morning Football on Tuesday. The 18-year-old fan was pumped up to join the show and ripped his shirt off to show he still had angry runs written on his body. He also performed a wrestling move mid-video to a friend of his that was must-watch TV.

Browns fans are having a blast with this season as they pull off improbable win after improbable win as they fight for a playoff spot in a wild NFL season.

Bijan Robinson gave the coldest answer for how he likes to run the ball for the Falcons

Bijan Robinson has the perfect answer for how he likes to run the football.

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt has become synonymous with his Good Morning Football Angry Runs segments, which celebrate the ferocious running styles of so many NFL running backs.

However, Brandt got as fierce an answer from Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson about how he runs with the football as he’s gotten with various clips of “angry” NFL rushes this season.

During the segment, Robinson described his sunny off-field disposition and how that doesn’t necessarily indicate that that’s how he feels while on the field.

In fact, Robinson said he feels the exact opposite inside when he’s trying to get yardage for Atlanta.

“When I get on the field, yeah, I might not show it, my facial expression, but you’ll definitely know,” Robinson told Brandt. “It’s a different attitude when I have the ball in my hand. I’m always trying to respectfully and humbly destroy whoever’s in front of me.”

Alright, that’s just awesome. Robinson’s clearly got a bright future ahead of him with the Falcons, and it sounds like opposing defenses will want to take note of how Robinson plans to run at them in the years to come.

Watch: Kyle Brandt celebrates David Njoku’s catch and run

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku was awarded the winner of Angry Run of the week on his 23-yard catch and run against the Ravens.

Kyle Brandt of Good Morning Football rewards one player a week in his “Angry Runs” segment. This week, he decided to celebrate David Njoku’s 23-yard catch and run. In an epic rant, Brandt narrates Njoku’s march down the field that put the Browns outside the red zone. Brandt reminded viewers that humans, nor fire, can stop the fierce Njoku.

Brandt had multiple Browns plays that he could choose the angry run from. The Browns entered Baltimore and bullied the Ravens for the full 60 minutes. The second-most memorable run of the game was when the entire offense pushed Jerome Ford 13 yards in the game’s waning moments. The run was the best sign of team unity I have ever witnessed by a Browns team.

It’s refreshing to see the members of the national media celebrate the Cleveland Browns. The team is slowly gaining admirers in the national media after the team proved they belong among the upper echelon of NFL teams. Unfortunately, few of those admirers have gone public. That’s what makes Brandt’s unbridled enthusiasm so fulfilling to hear as a fan.

Kyle Brandt ranks Derek Carr as a third-tier quarterback in the NFC

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt ranked Saints passer Derek Carr as a third-tier quarterback in the NFC; @crissy_froyd on whether that’s a fair placement:

NFL Network host Kyle Brandt recently broke down his seven tiers of NFC quarterbacks on the Good Morning Football show, listing New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr as a third-tier quarterback in the conference. The other quarterbacks sharing that tier were Geno Smith and Jared Goff.

This put Carr just a bit ahead of the middle of the pack, in front of the likes of Brock Purdy, Baker Mayfield and others. It also put him behind some names that included Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts.

Hurts was the only passer to land in the top tier, which makes plenty of sense after he signed a five-year contract for some $255 million dollars with the Philadelphia Eagles that set a record for a short period of time.

It will be interesting to watch how Carr fares with a change of scenery after he departed from the Las Vegas Raiders, finishing out his most recent season with a 60.8% completion rate, 3,522 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

There’s no question that Carr’s touchdown-to-interception ratio has got to improve moving forward into what could be the last stages of his career with the number of years he has been in the league, but it’s safe to say this is a fair ranking for Carr given where the ceiling and the floor have proven to stand so far.

Obviously projected as the starting quarterback ahead of fall camp (anything else would be something as a surprise), Carr and the Saints await their 2023 schedule to be released on Thursday, May 11.

Kyle Brandt dubs Kirk Cousins as tier 2 NFC QB

On Thursday’s episode of Good Morning Football, Kyle Brandt labeled Kirk Cousins as a tier 2 quarterback in the NFC.

Good Morning Football is the NFL Network’s version of a morning show and it spurs a lot of discussion. On Thursday’s episode, co-host Kyle Brandt ranked the NFC quarterbacks via tiers and put Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in tier two with Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford.

The only quarterback ranked in tier one is Jalen Hurts and for good reason. He just signed a record contract with the Eagles for five years, $255 million. Yes, the record only held for a few days, but it still counts!

Cousins being in that next tier in the NFC feels right, especially being grouped with Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford. He arguably had his best year while being slightly worse in volume stats. He completed 65.9% of his passes for 4,547 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Is Cousins being ranked in tier two fair or foul? Give your answers in the poll below!
