UFC targets Krzysztof Jotko vs. Gerald Meerschaert for April 30 event

Two veterans of the UFC middleweight division will square off in Las Vegas.

Two veterans of the UFC middleweight division will square off April 30.

On the UFC Fight Night card scheduled for the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, [autotag]Krzysztof Jotko[/autotag] and [autotag]Gerald Meerschaert[/autotag] will compete in a three-round bout.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Jotko (23-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) has won three of his past four fights with decision victories over Eryk Anders (unanimous), Marc-Andre Barriault (split), and most recently Misha Cirkunov (split). The solo loss in that stretch came against Sean Strickland by unanimous decision in May.

Meerschaert (34-14 MMA, 9-6 UFC) had a massive year in 2021, as he went three-for-three with as many wins by submission. Bartosz Fabinski, Makhmud Muradov, and Dustin Stoltzfus all fell victim to Meerschaert’s rear-naked choke.

With the addition the UFC Fight Night lineup for April 30 includes:

  • Cortney Casey vs. Antonina Shevchenko
  • Gina Mazany vs. Shanna Young
  • Francisco Figueiredo vs. Daniel da Silva
  • Mike Breeden vs. Natan Levy
  • Gabe Green vs. Yohan Lainesse
  • Jessica Penne vs. Luana Pinheiro
  • Rafael Alves vs. Jared Gordon
  • Carlos Candelario vs. Tatsuro Taira
  • Tristan Connelly vs. Darren Elkins
  • Krzysztof Jotko vs. Gerald Meerschaert

UFC Fight Night 193 medical suspensions: Thiago Santos, Johnny Walker face 180-day terms

Headliners Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker are both looking at six months after UFC Fight Night 193.

Although [autotag]Thiago Santos[/autotag] and [autotag]Johnny Walker[/autotag] didn’t deliver the barnburner fans expected, they are both looking at six months after UFC Fight Night 193.

Former title challenger Santos defeated Walker via unanimous decision in the main event on Saturday, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streamed on ESPN+.

After their five-round battle, Santos will need doctor clearance on his left ring finger, left foot, left knee, and an X-ray on his left ribs before he can resume competition. Meanwhile, Walker needs an X-ray on his left foot before getting cleared.

Also potentially sidelined for 180 days is [autotag]Niko Price[/autotag], who needs an X-ray on his left knee after defeating Alex Oliveira; [autotag]Krzysztof Jotko[/autotag], who needs an X-ray on his left foot after edging out Misha Cirkunov; [autotag]Devonte Smith[/autotag], who needs his right orbital fracture cleared by a doctor after his knockout loss to Jamie Mullarkey, and [autotag]Johnny Eduardo[/autotag], who also needs his right orbital fracture cleared after his submission loss to Alejandro Perez.

The full list of UFC Fight Night 193 medical suspensions can be seen below:

UFC Fight Night 193: Misha Cirkunov vs. Krzysztof Jotko odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 193 odds and lines between Misha Cirkunov vs. Krzysztof Jotko, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight bout on the main card, Misha Cirkunov meets Krzysztof Jotko at UFC Fight Night 193 – also known as UFC Vegas 38 – at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC Fight Night 193: Cirkunov vs. Jotko odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The card can be viewed on ESPN+ with the prelims at 4 p.m. ET and the main card at 7 p.m. ET.

Cirkunov was knocked out in the first round last time out March 13 against Ryan Spann. He enters this bout with just two victories in his last six fights, with both wins by submission and each of the four setbacks via KO/TKO.

Jotko is also looking to bounce back after a unanimous-decision loss to Sean Strickland his last time out May 1. Each of his last four bouts has gone the distance, with three victories.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Cirkukov +115 (bet $100 to win $115) | Jotko -145 (bet $145 to win $100)

UFC Fight Night 193 Cirkunov vs. Jotko: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Cirkunov (15-6-0) | Jotko (22-5-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

I really like JOTKO (-145) to bounce back from his unanimous-decision loss last time out, but don’t expect it to be short. He has ended up going the distance in each of his last four fights, six of his past eight, and 10 of his 14 bouts since arriving at the UFC level.

As such, play JOTKO ON POINTS (+235) for the chance to more than double up.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 1.5 ROUNDS (-180) is one of the best bets on the board. It might be a little on the expensive side, but given Jotko’s last four fights this one figures to go rather long. In fact, seven of his last eight fights would have won this prop.

Play YES: WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? (+130) for an even better value. While each of Cirkunov’s last 10 fights has finished inside the distance Jotko is going to take him all the way.

Misha Cirkunov moves down to middleweight, meets Krzysztof Jotko at UFC Fight Night on Oct. 2

For the first time in his career, Misha Cirkunov will drop down to 185 pounds when he faces Krzysztof Jotko on Oct. 2.

For the first time in his career, [autotag]Misha Cirkunov[/autotag] will drop down to 185 pounds.

Cirkunov (15-6 MMA, 6-4 UFC) makes his middleweight debut against [autotag]Krzysztof Jotko[/autotag] (22-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) at a UFC Fight Night event on Oct. 2, promotion officials announced Tuesday morning. The event doesn’t yet have a known venue or location.

Canada’s Cirkunov has split his past four appearances with submission finishes of Patrick Cummins and Jimmy Crute to his credit in that run. He’s coming off a first-round TKO loss to Ryan Spann in March and will now be cutting an extra 20 pounds when he meets perennial contender Jotko.

A longtime staple in the UFC’s middleweight division, Jotko saw his three-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of surging contender Sean Strickland at UFC on ESPN 23 in May.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for Oct. 2 includes:

  • Thiago Santos vs. Johnny Walker
  • Bethe Correia vs. Karol Rosa
  • Jared Gordon vs. Joe Solecki
  • Grant Dawson vs. Diego Ferreira
  • Fernando Padilla vs. Sean Soriano

UFC on ESPN 23 results: Sean Strickland picks apart Krzysztof Jotko, extends streak

Sean Strickland extended his winning streak to four fights when he beat Krzysztof Jotko at UFC on ESPN 23.

[autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] looked sharp again Saturday as he picked apart the always game [autotag]Krzysztof Jotko[/autotag] en route to victory at UFC on ESPN 23.

Strickland (23-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) extended his winning streak to four consecutive fights, with three coming after a career-threatening motorcycle accident, as he worked over Jotko (22-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) on the feet for a unanimous decision win by scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

The middleweight bout was part of the UFC on ESPN 23 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN2 and streamed on ESPN+.

Strickland started the fight strong, displaying sharp striking. He snapped Jotko’s head back on multiple occasions with his jab and a variety of shots that came behind them. Jotko was kept on his back foot for the majority of the round, and had a tough time landing effective shots as he tried to solve Strickland’s rhythm.

Clearly sensing the opening round didn’t go his way, Jotko pulled it together early in Round 2. He found a better beat on Strickland’s timing, and landed a few solid left hands to get back some respect. Strickland displayed a solid chin in taking everything, though, and continued to march forward and land his own combinations, blooding the nose of his opponent.

With Strickland in cruise control going into the final round, he stayed composed and focused on sticking to the game plan. Jotko was unable to disrupt to pace of Strickland, who added more damage to his total with the jab and some nice kicks to the legs and body. Jotko was unable to stage a late rally, and Strickland continued his momentum to the final bell.

“The way he fights, it’s so hard to connect,” Strickland said in his post-fight interview. “I’m not necessarily a guy who comes forward. I like to be in a phone booth. The way he likes to fight, it’s just really hard to land on him. I just love being a UFC fighter. Every day I wake up, I’m grateful. … I don’t care who it is (next). As long as I’m in the octagon, I’m happy.”

UFC on ESPN 23: Sean Strickland vs. Krzysztof Jotko odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 23 fight Sean Strickland between Krzysztof Jotko, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Sean Strickland and Krzysztof Jotko meet at UFC on ESPN 23 – also known as UFC Vegas 25 – at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. The prelims kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2/ESPN+, with the main card on ESPN2/ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 23 Strickland vs. Jotko odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

UFC on ESPN 23 Strickland vs. Jotko: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Strickland 22-3 | Jotko 22-4

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

This one has fight-of-the-night potential, and it’s rather surprising Strickland (-300) is considered such a heavy favorite considering the strong and fairly similar records of both fighters.

It might be because Strickland has a 5.09-to-2.98 significant-strikes-landed-per-minute advantage, and while each fighter is very similar in takedown average, Strickland has a 60.0-to-35.0 takedown-accuracy-percentage lead, too.

While Jotko has three straight wins via decision, Strickland should be able to end this one early. Two of Strickland’s past three fights have been KO/TKO victories. I like STRICKLAND BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+190) on the 5-way line with a chance to double up.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

I like Strickland to post the stoppage, and as such, NO +125: WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is the play here. In fact, UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+160) might also be a nice small-unit play, too.

In addition, playing a two-round block on STRICKLAND IN ROUND 1 (+450) and STRICKLAND IN ROUND 2 (+700) is a good play. Yes, you’ll lose one of the ends even if Strickland wins in one of the first two rounds, but you will still be well ahead.

After an event in Florida, the UFC is back on its home turf with a former light heavyweight title challenger at the top of the bill.

UFC on ESPN 23 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card airs on ESPN2 and streams on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

[lawrence-related id=607261,607267,607157]

In the main event, former 205-pound title challenger [autotag]Dominick Reyes[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) meets [autotag]Jiri Prochazka[/autotag] (27-3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC). Prochazka is a slight favorite at -135 at BetMGM, but it’s Reyes with a slight 7-5 lead in the picks from our 12 editors, writers, videographers and radio hosts.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Giga Chikadze[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) is a -175 favorite against [autotag]Cub Swanson[/autotag] (27-11 MMA, 12-7 UFC) at featherweight. Chikadze doubled up on Swanson in our picks at 8-4.

Our most contentious fight from a picking standpoint is at light heavyweight between [autotag]Ion Cutelaba[/autotag] (15-6 MMA, 4-5 UFC) and [autotag]Dustin Jacoby[/autotag] (14-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC). Cutelaba is a mild favorite at -120, and the picks are dead even at 6-6.

[autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] (22-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) and [autotag]Krzysztof Jotko[/autotag] (22-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) have similar records going into their middleweight bout. But Strickland is a big favorite at -275, and he’s got a 9-3 lead in the picks.

[autotag]Merab Dvalishvili[/autotag] (12-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) is a big favorite, too, at -250 in his bantamweight bout against [autotag]Cody Stamann[/autotag] (19-3-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC), and only two pickers are taking Stamann in an upset.

And to open the main card, we have our only unanimous pick at 12-0. [autotag]Poliana Botelho[/autotag] (8-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) pitched a picks shutout in her women’s flyweight bout against [autotag]Luana Carolina[/autotag] (6-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC).

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Prochazka (69 percent), Chikadze (59 percent), Cutelaba (59 percent), Strickland (69 percent), Dvalishvili (70 percent) and Botelho (81 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.

Krzysztof Jotko vs. Sean Strickland added to UFC Fight Night on May 1

A matchup between streaking middleweights Krzysztof Jotko and Sean Strickland is the latest addition to a UFC event in May.

A matchup between streaking middleweights [autotag]Krzysztof Jotko[/autotag] and [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] is the latest addition to a UFC event in May.

Jotko (22-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) and Strickland (22-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC), who both ride three-fight winning streaks at 185 pounds, have agreed to meet, MMA Junkie verified with a person with knowledge of the matchup after Strickland’s management announced the fight Wednesday on social media.

The fight takes place at UFC Fight Night on May 1. A location, venue and broadcast plans have not been announced for the card.

Jotko, 31, hit a rough wall in 2017-2018, when he lost three consecutive fights after winning six of seven to begin his UFC tenure. He’s since rebounded, though, putting together another three-fight winning streak. The most recent victory saw him earn a unanimous decision win over Eryk Anders at UFC on ESPN 8 in May.

Strickland, 29, has had some trying times of his own. He lost two years of his career due to a motorcycle accident, and admits there was some belief he would never fight again. He made a comeback in October, though, and put together a pair of wins in a 14-day stretch, an achievement which earned him MMA Junkie’s “Comeback Fighter of the Year” award for 2020.

  • With the addition, the latest lineup for the UFC’s May 1 event now includes:Jiri Prochazka vs. Dominick Reyes
  • TJ Brown vs. Kai Kamaka III
  • Dean Barry vs. Mike Jackson
  • Poliana Botelho vs. Ji Yeon Kim
  • K.B. Bhullar vs. Andreas Michailidis
  • Damon Jackson vs. TJ Laramie
  • Sam Hughes vs. Loma Lookboonmee
  • Shamil Abdurakhimov vs. Augusto Sakai

Krzysztof Jotko out of UFC on ESPN+ 39 due to injury

Krzysztof Jotko won’t be competing later this month.

[autotag]Krzysztof Jotko[/autotag] won’t be competing this month.

The UFC middleweight has been forced to withdraw from his bout against Makhmud Muradov on Oct. 31 at UFC on ESPN+ 39 in Las Vegas. Jotko (22-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) announced the news Sunday.

“Unfortunately, my next fight against Makhmud won’t happen,” Jotko posted on Twitter. “This camp wasn’t easy from the start. Few days ago at sparring, I broke my toe, so there is no way to fight. So sorry @MakhmudMuradov that I’m out from the fight with 2 weeks notice. Hope to see you soon in the octagon!”

[lawrence-related id=519892,558771]

The UFC has yet to make an official announcement on Jotko’s withdrawal or a potential replacement opponent for Muradov.

Jotko was coming off a decision win over Eryk Anders in May. The victory extended Jotko’s winning streak to three. Prior to that, the Polish fighter had three straight losses.
