Lady Vols advance to the College World Series.

No. 4 national seed Tennessee (49-8, 19-5 SEC) defeated No. 13 Texas (45-15-1, 11-7 Big 12), 9-0, in Game 2 of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on Saturday.

The Lady Vols won the best-of-three series, 2-0, and advance to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Tennessee won the first game versus the Longhorns, 5-2, on Friday.

The 2023 Women’s College World Series will take place June 1-9 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium – OGE Energy Field.

Tennessee leads the best-of-three series, 1-0. The winner between the Lady Vols and Longhorns will advance to the College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“Really happy to get a win,” Tennessee head coach Karen Weekly said. “That was a tough, tough game just like we expected it was going to be. Tomorrow’s going to be even tougher. We need to come out and be prepared for that, and I have every confidence that we will.

“I’m just really proud of our team for battling. That was a game with a lot of momentum swings, and they made surges. Just two really, really good teams out there.”

Game No. 2 is slated for Saturday at 3 p.m. EDT and ABC will televise the contest.

Tennessee softball defeats Texas in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional.

No. 4 national seed Tennessee (48-8, 19-5 SEC) defeated No. 13 Texas (45-14-1, 11-7 Big 12), 5-2, in Game 1 of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on Friday.

The Lady Vols led 4-0 in the second inning behind Kiki Milloy’s RBI single and Zaida Puni’s three-run home run.

The Longhorns pulled to within three, 4-1, with a run in the third inning on an RBI single by Bella Dayton.

Tennessee extended its advantage to 5-1 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Rylie West.

The Longhorns scored one run in the sixth inning.

Ashley Rogers (18-1) pitched a complete seven-inning game for Tennessee. She allowed eight hits, two runs and two walks, while recording eight strikeouts.

Puni was 2-for-3, recording one home run, one double and three RBIs.

Tennessee softball will host a Big Orange Watch Party during the NCAA Tournament Super Regional.

No. 4 national seed Tennessee (45-8) will host No. 13 Texas (43-13-1) in a best-of-three NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional, Friday-Sunday, at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Tennessee will have a Big Orange Watch Party at Regal Soccer Stadium, adjacent to Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, during the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional.

UT press release:

Regal Soccer Stadium’s field gate located near the Stephenson Drive RV parking area will open 90 minutes prior to each game of Tennessee’s best-of-three series against Texas. The Big Orange Watch Party is free for all fans and will feature a live big-screen game broadcast on the soccer videoboard, games for children, access to concessions and more. Chairs, coolers, glass bottles and glass containers are prohibited.

Fans attending the watch party will need to park in the free CF lot on the Ag campus at River Drive. Free fan shuttles from the Ag campus will begin 90 minutes prior to first pitch and will drop off near Joan Cronan Volleyball Center next to Regal.

Return shuttles will run until one hour after the conclusion of the game.

First serve between the Vols and Gamecocks is slated for 3 p.m. EDT.

The Vols were victorious against Notre Dame, 12-4, Saturday in game No. 2.

Notre Dame defeated Tennessee, 8-6, Friday in game No. 1.

The Fighting Irish won the series, 2-1, and have advanced to the College World Series. The College World Series will take place June 16-27 at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
