LA Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s LA Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The LA Kings (9-5-3) take on the Colorado Avalanche (8-8-0) Wednesday. Puck drop from Ball Arena is set for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Kings vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Avs won 2-1 last year

The Kings dropped the first game of their road trip 3-1 in Calgary Monday. It was just a situation where Calgary 23-year-old goalie Dustin Wolf was simply unbeatable. C Anze Kopitar — surprise, surprise — leads the team with 18 points on 5 goals and 13 assists.

After a horrid start, the Avs are starting to round into form, winners of 2 straight against forecasted playoff teams. They beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 in OT Monday night. RW Mikko Rantanen netted his 9th goal of the season in the win.

Kings at Avalanche projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (4-2-3, 2.65 GAA, .903 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (3-5-0, 3.76 GAA, .863 SV%)

The Kings could go with David Rittich here, but I expect Kuemper to face his former team. Kuemper has been solid in his 4 starts this month at 1-2-1 with a 2.00 GAA and .919 SV%. He was between the pipes in the loss to Calgary Monday, stopping 25 of 27. He didn’t face his former team while with the Washington Capitals last year. He was 0-2-0 with a 3.58 GAA and .873 SV% against them 2 years ago.

Georgiev was solid in his last 3 starts after a disastrous start to the year. He’s 2-1-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .922 SV% in his last 3 against Winnipeg, Carolina and Nashville. He was 2-1-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .940 SV% in 3 starts against the Kings last year.

Kings at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

We just touched on how much better Georgiev is playing. However, I am throwing that straight out the window because I don’t trust him. It’s telling to me that Colorado is -140 on the ML and +170 on the PL. The books are luring you into a trap. Don’t do it.

The Kings won 2 of the last 3 in this building, and they play a heavy style that will wear you down. Now, they aren’t the same with RD Drew Doughty (ankle) out, but for my money, I’m taking the team that has shown better all season over a talented team with a dumpster fire in goal at times.

Take the KINGS +120.

Puck line/Against the spread

I am taking KEVIN FIALA OVER 2.5 SHOTS (-135) here. Last year against Colorado, he had 4, 3 and 5 SOG. He’ll be ready.

Over/Under

The Under has hit in the last 2 meetings, but the Over cashed in the 5 before that. The Over is 4-2-1 in LA’s last 7. It’s 6-2 in Colorado’s last 8.

Colorado will score, but it’s going to be the Kings wearing them down to get the 4 goals needed to cash the OVER 6 (-120).

Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Kings (39-26-10) travel to meet the Colorado Avalanche (52-14-6) at Ball Arena Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we look at the Kings vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Kings registered an impressive 5-2 road win against the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday and now face the tough back-to-back with a road outing in Denver.

The Avalanche, tied with the Florida Panthers with an NHL-best 110 points, have been off since a 2-1 shootout victory at the Edmonton Oilers Saturday. Colorado has won six games in a row, and it hasn’t lost in regulation in eight outings dating back to March 23 at home against the Vancouver Canucks.

Kings at Avalanche odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Kings +190 (bet $100 to win $190) | Avalanche -240 (bet $240 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Kings +1.5 (-135) | Avalanche -1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -125)

Kings at Avalanche projected goalies

Cal Petersen (20-13-1, 2.79 GAA, .899 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Darcy Kuemper (34-9-3, 2.37 GAA, .926 SV%, 5 SO)

Petersen has dropped his last two starts, including 6 goals allowed in a loss at the Minnesota Wild Sunday. He is 1-2-0 with a 3.71 GAA and .882 SV% in three April starts.

Kuemper and his teammates are well rested, last appearing Saturday. The likely Vezina Trophy finalist has won four starts in a row, and he is a tremendous 3-0-0 with a 2.28 GAA and .948 SV% in three April outings.

Kings at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Kings 1

Money line

The Avalanche (-240) are a little too rich for my blood at nearly two and a half times your potential return. Over the long haul that’s a shabby betting strategy that will not pay off.

AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+110) are a much better play laying the goal and a half. The Kings have the unenviable task of not only traveling east to west in less than 24 hours but also taking on a President’s Trophy candidate while bleary-eyed. It’s unlikely to end well.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-125) might be the best play on the board, although there are concerns with D Drew Doughty sidelined for the Kings. The defense is already going to be rather tired, and their best rearguard was lost earlier in the week due to injury.

Still, the offense is unlikely to have much for Kuemper after the quick turnaround, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a Colorado shutout here, either.

Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Los Angeles Kings (11-9-6) meet the Colorado Avalanche (15-8-2) play the second of a two-game set Sunday. Puck drop will be at 5:30 p.m. ET at Ball Arena. Below, we analyze the Kings-Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Kings at Avalanche: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Kings +210 (bet $100 to win $210) | Avalanche -250 (bet $250 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Kings +1.5 (-130) | Avalanche -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Kings at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Calvin Petersen (4-5-4, 2.61 GAA, .920 SV%) vs. Philipp Grubauer (14-7-0, 1.95 GAA, .920 SV%, 4 SO)

Petersen allowed just one goal on 45 shots in Friday’s 2-0 loss at Colorado, as he was outdueled by Grubauer in a well-played defensive game. It was a nice bounce-back game for Petersen, who was touched up for six goals on 25 shots in the previous outing in Anaheim on Monday.

Grubauer was rarely tested in Friday’s 2-0 win, but he turned aside all 18 of the shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season, and second in five starts. After coughing up five goals in San Jose on March 1, Grubauer has rounded back into form with just six goals allowed across his past five starts over 305:34.

Kings at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Kings 1

Money line (ML)

The Avalanche (-250) will cost you two and a half times your potential return, and that’s not a good long-term betting strategy, especially on a team that has won just twice in the past four games at home. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+105) are a better play at plus-money on the puck line, even though they’re having some issues putting the puck in the net lately.

Colorado is just middle of the road on offense, posting 2.96 goals per game to rank 15th despite the fact they’re first in shots on goal (33.8) per game.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 6 (-120) is the way to go in this battle, after we had a total of just two goals on Friday night. Petersen and Grubauer have been playing with a lot of confidence lately.

The Under is also 5-1 in Colorado’s past six games overall, and they have allowed just four total goals in the past three, and 1.8 goals per game across the previous six.

Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Los Angeles Kings (11-8-6) are visiting Ball Arena for a two-game set against the Colorado Avalanche (14-8-2) beginning Friday with a 9 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we analyze the Kings-Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Kings are coming off a 5-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday. They lost the first half of that two-game set by a 6-5 count in overtime. Three of the Kings’ last four games went to an extra session, and they’re just 2-3-2 in their last seven games.

The Avalanche have also been playing plenty of extra hockey of late, going to overtime in three of their last four games. They went 2-1 in those contests but also took a 3-2 loss in regulation against the Arizona Coyotes within their last four games. They rebounded to top the Coyotes 2-1 in OT Wednesday.

Kings at Avalanche: Odds, spread and lines

  • Against the spread/ATS: Kings +1.5 (-145) | Avalanche -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Kings at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Troy Grosenick (1-0-0, .971 SV%, 1.00 GAA) vs. Philipp Grubauer (13-7-0, .917 SV%, 2.05 GAA)

Grosenick stepped in to start Wednesday’s game against the Ducks and stopped 33 of 34 shots in his first game and victory since the 2014-15 season (with the San Jose Sharks). Backup Calvin Petersen was placed on the league’s COVID-19 list and starter Jonathan Quick is questionable due to an upper-body injury.

Grubauer faced just 14 shots and made 13 saves in Wednesday’s win over the Coyotes. He has three victories in his last four games following a stretch of losing three of four games.

Kings at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Kings 2

Money line (ML)

The Avalanche (-225) should win this game as one of the preseason and current favorites to win the Stanley Cup against the expected cellar-dwelling Kings but Colorado has been spinning the tires of late and is just 2-1-1 through the first four games of a nine-game homestand.

The Avs are a disappointing fourth in the West Division and the Kings are a surprising fifth.

PASS on a money line bet at the chalky price, even with Grosenick expected to start for just the second time since 2014-15 for L.A.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+120) should be backed to win by 2 or more goals for a proper profit. They lead the NHL with a 5-on-5 Corsi For percentage of 57.43, while the Kings are 14th at 49.77% of the total shot attempts at full strength in their games.

Colorado also has an expected goals for percentage of 55.93 to Los Angeles’ 46.88% xGF.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the OVER 5.5 (-115) for a combined goal total of 6 or more.

The Avs score 3.00 goals per game and will give Grosenick a much stiffer test than the Sharks did in his previous start.
