As The Clemson Insider previously reported, Pike Road (Ala.) High School four-star defensive lineman Khurtiss Perry was on campus this weekend for his official visit.

Perry, who remains the top uncommitted prospect in the state of Alabama was making his last rounds of visits before he makes his decision on Wednesday  — the first day of the early signing period for class of 2022 football recruits.

He’ll choose between his final five schools: Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, UCF and Texas.

Perry’s official visit to Clemson comes on the heels of Todd Bates making an in-home visit earlier this past week. Perry, who reacted on social media Sunday night — which you can see below — spent a lot of time with Clemson’s defensive/tackles coach/recruiting coordinator, head coach Dabo Swinney and defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall.

He’s built a solid relationship with Bates, who has been his lead recruiter throughout the process.

“Coach Bates has always been recruiting me,” Perry told TCI in October. “Coach Bates came to a game, came to my school. He’s just been a great guy. He’s always been on me, staying on top of me, making sure I’m doing the right thing, making sure I’m doing things to help me in my future.”

“I feel like he’s a great guy,” Perry added. “He’s from Alabama, so he relates on things, sees from my point of view.”

Perry (6-3, 265) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 8 defensive lineman and No. 54 overall prospect for the 2022 class.

Todd Bates stopped by the home of a priority target in the class of 2022 on Tuesday night.

Clemson’s defensive tackles coach/recruiting coordinator was in Pike Road (Ala.) to visit with four-star defensive tackle Khurtiss Perry.

Perry picked up a Clemson offer in September after Bates traveled to watch him play in one of his games.

“Coach Bates has always been recruiting me,” Perry told The Clemson Insider back in October.

Perry, who remains the top uncommitted recruit in the state of Alabama, will have plenty of visitors this week with the early signing period rapidly approaching. He recently cut down his recruitment to five schools — Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Texas and UCF.

Perry (6-3, 265) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 8 defensive lineman and No. 54 overall prospect for the 2022 class.

Five most important visitors for the Iron Bowl

Auburn needs to impress these players

The Iron Bowl is almost here. And as they do every year, several elite prospects will be in attendance for the game.

The Auburn football program has been waiting for some momentum to come on the recruiting front. While it has picked up some movement over the season, it still puts Auburn in the bottom part of the SEC in recruiting for the 2022 class.

While every visitor is important, here are the five most important visitors for the game.

Auburn target Khurtiss Perry will announce commitment on Dec. 15

This would be huge for the Tigers.

One of Auburn’s top defensive targets is Khurtiss Perry, and he will be announcing his commitment on Dec. 15.

He will announce his commitment at 1 p.m. central time and will be deciding between Auburn, UCF, Alabama, Clemson, and Texas.

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound Perry is from Pike Road, Alabama, and is No. 11 defensive lineman in the country and No. 69 recruit overall per the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is the No. 3 player in the state of Alabama and would be Auburn’s highest-rated commit if they can land the talented defensive lineman.

Perry has had a dominant senior season, totaling 76 tackles, 19.0 sacks, 17.0 tackles for loss, 30 quarterback hurries, and one forced fumble.

Top DT target talks recruitment, explains why Clemson is a finalist

After releasing his top 10 schools over the summer, Pike Road (Ala.) High School four-star defensive lineman Khurtiss Perry was ready to further narrow down his recruitment this past weekend.

So, on Friday, the big-time class of 2022 prospect dropped his final five schools on social media. Clemson made the cut for its top defensive tackle target, while Alabama, Auburn, Texas and UCF cracked Perry’s short list as well.

“I felt like it was time for me to narrow it down to a five,” Perry told The Clemson Insider. “It’s been a while and a minute, so I felt like it was time for me to narrow it down.”

Perry, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound senior, received an offer from Clemson in September after defensive tackles coach Todd Bates traveled to watch Perry play in one of his games.

Bates has been recruiting Perry since he was a freshman, and the two have built what Perry described as a “real strong” bond.

“Coach Bates has always been recruiting me,” Perry said.

As for why the Tigers are one of the finalists in Perry’s recruitment?

“Clemson’s got a great D-line coach, they have a great defensive coordinator,” he said. “I feel like they’re just going through a tough day right now, but I feel like once they rebuild, Clemson’s going to be tough. They’ve always been a championship team. I feel like they’re just rebuilding right now, so I feel like they’re going to be OK.”

The next and last order of business for Perry in his recruiting process is making his commitment decision, something he said he intends to do sometime in December.

“It’s nothing else, just be ready for four to go down and one to go up,” he said when asked what’s next for him in his recruitment after releasing his top five.

Perry has unofficially visited Alabama and Auburn this season, while he plans to officially visit Auburn in November and Alabama and Texas in December. He is tentatively planning to unofficially visit Clemson for its game vs. Florida State on Oct. 30.

When the time comes for Perry to render his college choice, what will be the most important factors that determine where he continues his academic and athletic career at the next level?

“Just family, great bond, great coaches, great (defensive) schemes to make me put on the field the first year,” he said. “Also, great education, just great things that will make me better as a great man.”

Perry is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 7 defensive lineman and No. 31 overall prospect for the 2022 class. He transferred to Pike Road in August after previously attending Park Crossing High (Montgomery, Ala.), where he tallied 173 tackles, 58 tackles for loss and 15 sacks in 2020.

Khurtiss Perry, one of the top defensive linemen in the country, announced his final five schools Friday.

The final five are UCF, Texas, Clemson, Alabama, and Auburn.

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound Perry is from Pike Road, Alabama, and is No. 11 defensive lineman in the country and No. 65 recruit overall per the 247Sports composite ranking.

Perry has been dominant to start his senior season, racking up 48 tackles, 16 sacks, 14 tackles for loss and 19 quarterback hurries.

Perry was in Jordan-Hare Stadium for Auburn’s game against Georgia and has plans to take an official visit later in the season.

Auburn has one other defensive lineman committed for 2022 in Kaden Story, the pairing of Perry and Story would be an impressive haul for the Tigers.

Clemson has made the cut for one of the nation’s top defensive linemen in the 2022 class.

Pike Road (Ala.) High School four-star Khurtiss Perry dropped his top five schools on social media Friday evening, featuring the Tigers along with Alabama, Auburn, Texas and UCF.

Perry (6-3, 265) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 7 defensive lineman and No. 31 overall prospect for the 2022 class.

Clemson extended an offer to Perry last month after defensive tackles coach Todd Bates traveled to watch him play in one of his games.

“It feels so good to have a Clemson offer,” Perry told The Clemson Insider shortly after announcing the offer. “Just been getting recruited (by Clemson) from ninth grade. They kept pushing me, they kept believing in me.”

According to Perry, who worked out with Bates at the Dabo Swinney Camp in June 2019, Bates views him as a versatile D-lineman who could line up on the edge and play inside at tackle on Clemson’s defense.

“He said that he liked my style of how I play,” Perry said. “He said I played just like a Clemson D-lineman. He said he sees me coming in playing defensive end, and on third down, he sees me going inside and making plays and being disruptive.”

Perry transferred to Pike Road in August after previously attending Park Crossing High (Montgomery, Ala.). He tallied 173 tackles, 58 tackles for loss and 15 sacks in 2020.

Big-time Alabama DL says new offer from Clemson ‘feels so good’

Clemson made a big move last weekend with one of the nation’s top defensive linemen in the 2022 class, extending a new scholarship offer to Khurtiss Perry of Pike Road (Ala.) High School.

Perry reported the offer on Saturday.

“It feels so good to have a Clemson offer,” Perry told The Clemson Insider shortly after announcing the offer. “Just been getting recruited (by Clemson) from ninth grade. They kept pushing me, they kept believing in me.”

Perry (6-3, 265) is rated as a four-star prospect and ranked as high as the No. 7 defensive lineman and No. 31 overall prospect in the country for the 2022 class by 247Sports.

Clemson defensive tackles coach Todd Bates conveyed the offer to Perry after watching him play in person during Pike Road’s win over Andalusia (Ala.) High School on Friday night.

“He liked how I played and great things like that,” Perry said. “Then we talked after the game, and he told me that I received an offer from Clemson.”

Perry appreciated Bates’ presence at his game Friday and that Bates made the trip to see him compete.

“That means a lot to me, just seeing and knowing that a college is coming to see me play,” Perry said. “I just look at it as another blessing. It means a lot.”

Perry, a senior, has been building a relationship with Bates since he was a freshman.

“He keeps staying in touch with me and my mom,” Perry said, “and he’s always hitting me up, calling me, checking up on me, making sure I’m doing the right thing, staying on track.”

With an offer from the Tigers now in tow, Perry plans to attend a game at Death Valley sometime this fall, while he named LSU, Ohio State and Oregon as a few of the other schools he wants to see games at during the season. He traveled to Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State and UCF over the summer.

In July, Perry revealed a top 10 that included Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Miami and all of the aforementioned schools, with the exception of Clemson.

But the Tigers are certainly one of Perry’s top schools now that they have entered the race with an offer.

“They stand big in my recruitment,” he said.

Asked what stands out most to him when he considers Clemson as one of his college choices, Perry simply said, “DLU.”

Perry transferred to Pike Road in August after previously attending Park Crossing High (Montgomery, Ala.). He tallied 173 tackles, 58 tackles for loss and 15 sacks in 2020.
