Four-star athlete Kevin Levy breaks down why he picked Rutgers football

Kevin Levy discusses why he committed to Rutgers football.

Kevin Levy saw Rutgers football as different than any of the other programs recruiting him. He saw and experienced something during his recruitment by the Big Ten school that led to his commitment on Saturday.

And in doing so, Levy’s commitment is a major recruiting win for Rutgers.

Playing as a wide receiver and a defensive back at Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach FL), Levy held offers from Boston CollegeFloridaFlorida StateIllinoisIndianaKentuckyLouisville, Miami, MinnesotaPenn State and Texas A&M among others. On 3 ranks Levy as a four-star recruit.

During his commitment on Saturday, Levy had five hats on the table: Florida State, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville and Rutgers. But there was only ever one choice for the Florida athlete.

“They always (touched) base. Made sure they were going to take care of me and my family and (I) had a good relationship with them,” Levy told Rutgers Wire.

He is expected to be a defensive back at Rutgers.

[lawrence-related id=28495]

While making his selection, Levy created quite the stir. After thanking his family, friends, teammates and his high school coaches, he reached for a Florida State hat. He then left the hat on the table, reaching to the opposite side and putting on a Rutgers hat.

The little prank, he says, was “just cause most people believed I was going there.”

Levy is settled in his recruitment and his only visit will be on July 29 when he is on campus at Rutgers.

“It just felt  like home, the right place for me to take my talents to for the next three to four years,” Levy said,

In terms of getting other players to Rutgers, Levy said he is after one of his teammates to join him: Josh Philostin.

A four-star defensive back according to ESPN.com, Philostin took an official visit to Rutgers in June. Philostin has an offers list that includes Arkansas, Indiana, Ole Miss, Penn State and Pittsburgh as well as several others.

He plans on making a decision prior to the start of his senior season.

Levy’s Film Breakdown

Levy’s athletic stats, according to hudl.com

  • 100 Meters – 10.62 seconds as a junior
  • 200 Meters – 21.5 seconds
  • 4x State Champion for track

Joining the Scarlet Knights as a defensive back, this 2024 recruit is a diverse player who can play safety and cornerback. With his background as a wide receiver, Levy has excellent ball skills and instincts.

Levy can be a plug-in player for Rutgers defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak. Levy doesn’t have a ton of open-field tackles in his highlight reel but can hawk down ball carriers. Levy adds athleticism and speed to Rutgers’ 2024 roster.

As time passes, Levy can move to wide receiver later in his Rutgers career. Levy can be similar to Rutgers’ current wide receiver Chris Long, switching positions from defensive back to wide receiver. Levy is a solid addition to Rutgers football as he can develop into a highly recruited player for the Scarlet Knights.

What helped Rutgers football land four-star wide receiver Kevin Levy?

Kevin Levy discusses why Rutgers football won out in his recruitment.

A deep relationship and a special connection is what Kevin Levy said won the day out for Rutgers football. On Saturday afternoon, Levy committed to Rutgers in a recruitment that saw the Florida wide receiver get offers from some of the best programs in college football

Calling it “a hard decision,” Levy’s selection of Rutgers was a bit of a surprise. He was projected to go to Louisville but the Big Ten program won out in the end.

Ranked a four-star wide receiver by On3, Levy is coming off a solid junior season at Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach FL). During his recruitment, he was offered by Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Minnesota, Penn State and Texas A&M as well as several others.

In an interview with New Era Prep, Levy broke down why Rutgers beat out a strong list of suitors. The coveted wide receiver had a final five that included Florida State, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville and Rutgers.

All five programs had hats on the table for his Saturday evening commitment ceremony.

“My coach had me narrow down the process. We put two and two together, see who really loved me the most and who was willing to wait for me, see what decision I made,” Levy told New Era Prep.

“Rutgers was really the school that loved me from the beginning.Recruited me no matter what. Hit me up no matter what. Was really the school that I had the closest relationship with.”

Levy is talented and athletic, with speed that saw him  run a 10.62 in the 100 meters this spring during track season.

Last season as a junior,  Levy had 19 receptions for 302 yards and two touchdowns for Cardinal Newman.

[lawrence-related id=28438]

During the interview, Levy was also asked about transitioning to New Jersey and how that might impact him.

“I’m not used to the cold but I can’t wait to get up there, just play in the Big Ten against those schools,” Levy said.

The commitment of Levy is big for Rutgers football, marking a third straight weekend where the Scarlet Knights have received a commitment from a four-star recruit. Two weeks ago, four-star wide receiver/tight end K.J. Duff from Long Island committed to the program.

Last weekend, Kaj Sanders, a top five player in New Jersey who was recently bumped to four stars by Rutgers, also committed to the Scarlet Knights.

CHOP the tomahawk? Four-star Kevin Levy fakes picking FSU, then picks Rutgers

Kevin Levy made a fake for Florida State before committing to Rutgers football.

If Kevin Levy can fake out Big Ten defensive backs this way, then the Florida wide receiver is well on his way to an all-conference career with Rutgers football. Levy, who committed to Rutgers on Saturday evening, very nearly had the recruiting world thinking he was heading to an ACC powerhouse.

A four-star wide receiver per On3, Levy is a class of 2024 recruit who is wide receiver at Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach FL). He held offers from Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Minnesota, Penn State and Texas A&M among others.

He took an official visit to Rutgers in June, which helped set the Scarlet Knights up for this commitment.

But at his commitment ceremony on Saturday, it was unknown where Levy might go. Sitting at a table with five hats (Florida State, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville and Rutgers), Levy thanked his family and friends for coming to the event. He also thanked his high schools coaches for their guidance.

“For the next three-to-four years, I’ll be taking my athletic and academic talents too…”

Levy reached to his left where there was a Florida State hat.

He then quickly shifted and reached to his right.

“Rutgers University.”

For those unfamiliar with Levy, who attends Cardinal Newman High School (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), he is a long, fast and athletic wide receiver. This spring during the track season, he ran a 10.62 in the 100 meters.

[lawrence-related id=28425,28421]

Last season in 12 games, he had 19 receptions for 302 yards and two touchdowns.

This now makes three consecutive weekends for Rutgers football where they have landed a four-star recruit. Two weeks ago, four-star wide receiver/tight end K.J. Duff committed to the program.

Then last week Kaj Sanders, a top five player in New Jersey who was recently bumped to four stars by Rutgers, committed to the Scarlet Knights.

Breaking (and surprising!): Four-star wide receiver Kevin Levy commits to Rutgers football

Rutgers football lands a bigtime commitment from Kevin Levy.

Kevin Levy committed to Rutgers football on Saturday afternoon. It was a surprising and important commitment for Rutgers football to land.

Levy is a four-star recruit according to On3. He is a wide receiver at Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach FL) who had a strong offer list that included Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Penn State and Texas A&M among others.

Louisville was considered the heavy favorite here, with the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine putting the Cardinals at 95.5 percent to land Levy.

This is a tremendous commitment for Rutgers football, landing such a coveted recruit:

At 6-foot and 170 pounds, Levy is a fascinating prospect in large part due to his speed. As a junior, Levy ran a 10.62 time in the 100 meters this spring.

For comparison, Indianapolis Colts running back Johnathan Taylor is considered one of the fastest athletes in the NFL. As a senior at Salem High School (Salem, N.J.), Taylor ran a 10.49 time in the 100 meters in 2017 during his senior season.

Florida likely to receive official visit from coveted in-state ATH

The Florida Gators are scheduling official visits for the summer, and this South Florida recruit says he’s close to locking in a date.

Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, Florida) athlete [autotag]Kevin Levy[/autotag] should be getting a visit from Florida defensive backs coach Corey Raymond this week, according to Gators Online, and he also says that an official visit is “most likely” coming in June.

“I plan to go back,” Levy said. “I just haven’t got a date down yet.”

Levy’s last trip to the Swamp came in January when Billy Napier and Co. were hosting large groups of recruits every weekend in a series of Junior Days. He enjoyed himself in Gainesville, but an official visit should be a completely different experience.

Right now, it’s Florida State, Louisville, Texas A&M and Ole Miss that stand out along with Florida, and the Gators need to do something to create a bigger gap between them and other programs.

The On3 recruiting prediction machine gives Florida a 31.3% projection rate and FSU is a close No. 2 with 27.4% odds.

Levy is a consensus three-star recruit right now and ranks as high as 42nd among athletes in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports. The On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of the four major recruiting services, has him just below that mark at No. 43 among athletes and No. 727 overall in the class.

Florida defensive back target rescheduling visit to the Swamp

South Florida athlete Kevin Levy couldn’t make his Saturday visit to the Swamp work, but he has a new date set with the staff.

On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted a group of recruits on spring visits. One of the names that should have been in town but couldn’t make it is Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, Florida) athlete [autotag]Kevin Levy[/autotag].

Something came up, preventing Levy from making it to Gainesville, but now he has a new date locked in to visit, according to Swamp247.

“I talked to Coach Raymond the other day, and told him I couldn’t make it,” Levy said. “So we worked out a new date for me to visit on April 8.”

Raymond is the team’s defensive backs coach, which means the Gators view Levy has a cornerback or safety. His speed might keep him out wide, but Raymond has compared Levy to nickels he’s coached in the past too.

Florida isn’t a lock to land Levy despite being the clear leader in this race. Levy visited Florida State during the spring as well, so the Gators are going to have to make up some ground on this next visit.

Levy is a three-star athlete by both 247Sports and On3’s measures. He ranks No. 679 overall on the 247Sports composite and No. 73 among athletes in the class of 2024. On3 has him in a similar spot at No. 674 overall and No. 55 among athletes.
